Nice, Toulon, RC Paris, Brest, première sélection en équipe de France et puis après j’ai signé au Paris Saint-Germain... Où j’ai été élu meilleur joueur de l’année. Et après départ en Angleterre. J’ai passé 7 ans là-bas et j’ai arrêté ma carrière à 35 ans en Juin 2002.
I went from Nice to Toulon, then to RC Paris and then on to Brest, where I got my first call-up to the France team, and the I signed for Paris Saint-Germain, where I was voted player of the year. After that I moved to England. I spent seven years there before finishing in June 2002 at the age of 35.
Maintenant je suis consultant sportif. Mais je m’investis aussi dans le domaine caritatif : j’ai été parrain de la Croix-Rouge Internationale pour la campagne des mines anti-personnelles. Un gros investissement personnel. Je m’engage aussi pour des associations caritatives en France. Quand on a eu le privilège de vivre de sa passion, d’avoir une vie comme la mienne, rêver de quelque chose à 9 ans et réussir à vivre de ça, il me semble normal de donner de son temps ou de son argent à des gens qui en ont besoin. C’est très important à mes yeux.
Now I'm a presenter. But I also invest in humanitarian work. I was an ambassador for the international Red Cross's campaign against land mines. That was a big personal investment. I'm also involved with charities in France. When you've had the privilege of living your passion and having a life like mine, managing to do something that you had dreamed of when you were nine years old, I think it's only natural to then give some of your time and money to people in need. I consider that to be very important.
Une fois mes études finies aux USA, je suis parti vivre en Italie pendant 8 mois et j’ai travaillé chez un ami qui avait un superbe piano-bar. Huit mois exceptionnels avec les cousins italiens. De là est né mon amour pour le Milan AC. Puis, je suis rentré pour m’associer à mon père sur la plage : 95 % lui et 5 % moi ! Et depuis, j’y suis toujours. C’est simplement le pourcentage qui s’est inversé !
After completing my studies in the US, I went to live in Italy for 8 months and worked for a friend who owned a superb piano bar. Those were eight glorious months with my Italian cousins. That is where my love affair with AC Milan began. Then I came back and went into business with my father on the beach: he put in 95%, I put in 5%! And I'm still here. Only the percentage has been reversed!

Je me suis marié en 1990, j’ai eu mon fils Andréa en 1992 et ma fille Carla en 1994.

I got married in 1990 and my son, Andréa, was born 1992 and my daughter, Carla, followed in 1994.

Le plus beau spot c’est le Var, c’est le 83 ! Je ne peux pas donner un lieu particulier car j’aime autant partir dans l’arrière-pays qu'aller en mer. J’aime la forêt des Maures, les vignobles, la plage…
The loveliest spot in the Var is whole département 83! I can't be more specific than that because I love going inland around there as much as I love the sea. I love the Les Maures forest, the vineyards, the beach, the list goes on!
J’aime bien aussi la plage de la Nartelle, c’est là où j’ai grandi, où j’ai appris à faire de la planche à voile... Je pense aussi à la petite île des Sardineaux. Quand je passe devant en bateau ça me fait quelque chose. L’entrée du Golfe de Saint-Tropez c’est pour moi un moment exceptionnel. Je revis des moments privilégiés de sorties en bateau avec mes grands-parents le dimanche, on allait dans la baie des Canoubiers, on allait pêcher, manger des oursins. J’ai eu une vie et une jeunesse extraordinaire, donc tout le Golfe c’est chez moi... C’est très fort pour moi.
I also like La Nartelle beach, where I grew up and learned to sailboard. I also have to mention the little island of Les Sardineaux. When I go past that in a boat it's really something. Arriving into the gulf of Saint-Tropez is always a special moment for me. It takes me back to the wonderful boat outings that I used to go on with my grandparents on Sunday, when we'd head to the bay of Canoubiers to fish and eat sea urchins. I've had an extraordinary life and childhood, so the whole bay feels like home. It means a lot to me.
DU COUP C’EST QUOI ÊTRE VAROIS ?
C’est aimer la culture provençale, c’est aimer la forêt des Maures, c’est connaître son histoire, connaître la vie des clochers, des villages, car le Var c’est avant tout beaucoup de villages. On a un patrimoine culturel, forestier, côtier qui est juste extraordinaire. Etre varois c’est aimer tout ça, c’est défendre notre région, être au fait de ce que représente le département du Var. Quand on me dit tu es de la région Paca je réponds que non, je suis du Var. Je suis un Varois pur et dur et je le défends car je pense qu’on a une culture entière : nos vignobles, nos AOC, notre cuisine... Tout ça m’a été inculqué par ma mère. POUR FINIR QUALIFIEZMOI CHRISTOPHE ?
C’est un garçon très généreux, c’est un garçon qui n’hésite pas à aider son prochain, c’est quelqu’un qui derrière son aspect quelque peu bourru car il est grand et costaud, a une sensibilité à fleur de peau. C’est un être sensible à tous les niveaux. Beaucoup de générosité, quelqu’un de besogneux, quelqu’un qui travaille, qui fait fructifier le patrimoine familial que lui a légué son père. C’est quelqu'un qui a beaucoup de respect pour sa famille, ses amis. C’EST QUELQU’UN QUI N’OUBLIE PAS. MORE | #1 | SUMMER 2016
SO WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE VAROIS?
It means loving the culture of Provence, loving Les Maures forest, knowing your history, the story of the bell towers and the villages because Le Var is above all a multitude of villages. We have a simply wonderful cultural, coastal and forestry heritage. Being Varois means loving all that and protecting our region, keeping on top of what the Var department represents. When people tell me I'm from the region of Provence and Côte d'Azur, I say “no, I'm from the Var”. I am Varois through and through and I will defend it because I think we have a complete culture, including our vineyards, our AOC wines and our cuisine. All of that was inculcated into me by my mother. TO CONCLUDE, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE CHRISTOPHE?
He's a very generous guy, someone who never hesitates to help others. He's a big, burly guy but behind his somewhat gruff appearance he has a great sensitivity. He is sensitive in all respects. Very generous, very diligent, as he works hard to ensure that the family concern passed on to him by his father thrives. He is someone who has a lot of respect for his family and friends. HE'S A MAN WHO DOESN'T FORGET.

J’ai épousé une jolie Montpelliéraine, Vanessa, qui m’a donné deux magnifiques enfants : Mathis 7 ans et Sasha 3 ans. PARLEZ-MOI DE VOS ÉTÉS VAROIS ? C’EST QUOI LE PLUS BEAU SPOT DU VAR ? LES ADRESSES INCONTOURNABLES ?
Pour moi le plus bel endroit c’est Sainte-Maxime car ils ont la plus belle vue sur Saint-Tropez ! Le Var est un département tellement beau... La mer, la campagne, les gens... Et surtout l'accent qui chante ! Je suis fan. Même mon épouse avoue que c'est le plus bel endroit au monde. C’EST QUOI ÊTRE VAROIS ?
C'est tout simplement être un privilégié ! C'est aussi un devoir de transmettre notre bonne humeur car nous avons la mer et le soleil pratiquement toute l'année. Alors pas le droit de se plaindre ! QUALIFIEZ-MOI DAVID ?
C'est avant tout mon ami. Il est très attachant, honnête, passionné, sensible, charmeur et surtout foncièrement gentil. Tous les gens qui ont eu la chance de le connaître vous le diront ! C’est aussi un très grand sportif (à mes yeux c’est l’un des meilleurs joueurs au monde de son époque) surdoué dans tout ce qu'il touche, même si je reste sa bête noire au golf ! Faut bien le surpasser de temps en temps… Malgré l'éloignement géographique nous sommes restés de véritables amis. Je suis tellement fier de son parcours d’autant plus que depuis son plus jeune âge, il n’a cessé de me répéter qu'il deviendrait joueur de football professionnel !

I reckon the loveliest spot is Sainte-Maxime, because thats where you get the best view of Saint-Tropez! The Var is such a beautiful département – the sea, the countryside, the people and the wonderful musical accent. I'm a fan. Even my wife admits it's the most beautiful place in the world. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE VAROIS?
It's quite simply a privilege! You also have the duty to pass on your good humour because we have the sea and the sun practically all year round. So we have no right to complain! HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE DAVID?
First and foremost, he's my friend. He's very appealing, honest, enthusiastic, sensitive, charming and, above all, decent to the core. Anyone who has been lucky enough to meet him will tell you the same thing! He's also a great sportsman - in my opinion he was one of the best players in the world in his day -, he is extremely gifted in everything he does, even if I'm still his bête noire in golf! I have to be able to beat him from time to time… Despite being far apart geographically, we have remained real friends. I am so proud of what we achieved, especially as he told me when we were little kids that he would one day become a professional footballer! NOT MANY PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY SAY THEY ARE GOING TO DO. RESPECT!
