Registration Opens for Sugar Bowl Summer Camps May 22, 2015
Sugar Bowl, in a May 20 press release, has announced that registration is now open for their week-long summer recreation and education programs on Donner Summit. Connie Anderson of the Abbi Agency included a great breakdown of what Sugar Bowl will be doing in the press release. The setting is spectacular, nestled in the Sierra at Donner Summit. The camps are led by world-class athletes, naturalists and educators. If learning by doing, and having an extraordinary experience while learning, this is the place to for your school aged chidren, 4 through 15, to spend some of their summer break. Your children will come out of camp with a better grip on outdoor sporting activites. Included are hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, mountain biking, nature art, storytelling and yoga. It's all about being outside. Along with this knowledge, they will, according to the press release "...gain a deeper understanding of the natural environment." The summer camps are offered through Sugar Bowl's partnership with Gateway Mountain Center. Peter Mayfield is the executive director of the center, and his qualifications are impressive. He has been successfully leading and inovating in mountain sports programs for 27 years.
The staff who work with him and the center is equally as impressive. One look at the long list of those who are teaching, and it is a long list, is enough to convince anyone that this is a very thourough program run by some of the best in the business. This summer's camp's run on July 20-24, and July 27-31. Pricing for the camps start at $500 per child. Camps include "Explore Nature,� Adventure in Nature,� Mountain Adventure," "Adventure, Leadership and Stewardship," "Mountain Bike Camp" and a "Sleep Away Camp" option where students can spend the week at the Clair Tappaan Lodge on Donner Summit.
