Orchards East (OE) aims to discover, and understand, the past, present and future of orchards in the east of England. We are surveying and recording orchard sites (old and new) across the east of England, as well as researching the social, cultural and economic history of fruit and nut growing in the region. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and based in the School of History at the University of East Anglia, the project extends initiatives already developed by Suffolk Traditional Orchard Group, the East of England Apples and Orchards Project and individual county orchard groups. Volunteer Opportunities We are always happy to hear from people who would like to : • Survey orchard sites in their parishes • Undertake historical research with the guidance of the University of East Anglia • Get involved with the oral history project • Tell us about individual orchards
Training and support is provided.
