I was indeed fortunate to be invited to Eduardo Diego’s Pre-Valentine Product Launching and Wine Tasting Event a day before the Day of Hearts on Feb. 13 at The Marketplace, Ayala Centrio Mall.

Not only was it another milestone occasion for Cagayan de Oro’s multiawarded Italian Specialty Restaurant, it was the winetasting event with the widest range of wines to taste I have ever experienced, thanks to Eduardo Diego’s partner Atlante Import Italy Pte Ltd . which had just appointed them their exclusive distributor for Cagayan de Oro City and Northern Mindanao.

With mood music provided by the incomparable Nap Sax Hechanova , the ambience was just right for the evening’s Festa Italiana as Eduardo Diego’s indefatigable Dynamic Duo of Jeigs Pakino and Ed Tangcay Quimpano Jr. of J2J Co. introduced three new items for their already formidable menu, in tandem with the Mom-and-Pop tandem behind the success of Atlante Import Italy Pte Ltd ., Roberto Morinelli and his Kagay-anon wife Elaine Espino , now based in Singapore.

The evening’s guests were treated to a #TrulyDelizioso unforgettable Dining Experience with the official introduction of three new items to their menu: Pasta Crema de Poll o (meaty chicken flakes on signature buttered cream sauce; PastaDiegoTagliatelle (premium Italian sausage slices blended with their unique

Dumlao said a separate complaint against Flex Fuel, and filed by the actor, was also received by the office.

Complainants Allegations

According to an earlier report aired by GMA News, a complainant named “Leo” invested over a million after they saw the actor act as the speaker and presented the marketing plan of Flex Fuel company.

“Pumasok po sa aming Zoom meeting si Luis Manzano at nagpakilalang owner at chairman ng Flex Fuel. Ito raw po ay isang lifetime business, pandemic business kaya po napakaganda po. Ako po ay nagloan sa bangko upang mapadala po sa Flex Fuel para po sa investment. At ng April 22, 2022, makalipas ang anim pasta sauce of fresh herbs, spices tossed uniquely with Tagliatelle Pasta ( tip: best matched with #CHIARLI IL Mio wines from Italy ), and especially prepared for Valentine’s Day, heart-shaped Pizza Crema de Pollo Tagliatelle are a traditional type of pasta made from egg pasta from the Emilia-Romagna and Marche regions of Italy using the traditional ratio of one egg for every one hundred grams of flour. Individual pieces of tagliatelle are long, flat ribbons that are similar in shape to fettuccine and are traditionally about 6 mm (1/4 inch) wide. Tagliatelle can be served with a variety of sauces, though the classic is a meat sauce or Bolognese sauce.

Roberto and Elaine made the evening even livelier, going around and advising guests on which of the various wines they were uncorking for us to taste goes best with what dish (21, count ‘em!). Primarily, these were the CHARLI Premium Demi Vino Rosso (Red), Vino Bianco (White), or Vino Rosato (Pink).

“ Remember that food and wine are like a fam - na buwan, wala pa rin po silang natatayo na gasoline station. Kahit isa,” Leo told the media in an interview.

Earlier, another complainant Jinky Sta. Isabel claimed she invested P3.9 million. But Sta Isabel said they are willing to drop their case if Flex Fuel pays them back their supposed investments.

“Ibalik niya ang pera namin. Kahit principal, ‘yung buong pera lang namin na dineposit sa account niya. Kahit wala na ‘yung kinita, wala na ‘yung interes. Hindi na kami magsasampa ng kaso,” Sta. Isabel stressed.

The management of Flex Fuel has already denied the scam allegations from the complainants but explained the company was hit and affected by the Covid-19 pandemic which they have no control over.

DENIAL

Meanwhile, the beleaguered actor denied his involvement into the P100- ily ,” Roberto noted. “ Is something being wrong, it is wrong, then we fight! But don’t let them fight. Tomorrow is night and day, so we need each one to love one other. I don’t want to talk further about the wines. It is best tasted to tell you all about them.”

Besides the three new wines and menu items, Eduardo Diego also rolled out their Solo Pasta servings from 10AM-4PM daily for Solo Spaghetti Pomodoro, Solo Spaghetti AglioOlio, and Solo Spaghetti Salsa Rosa (plain).

You can visit EduardoDiego Ristorante on either their main branch at A. Velez corner Hayes streets, or at The Marketplace, Ayala Centrio Mall or contact million investment scheme, pinpointing to Medel as the person handling the management and operation of Flex Fuel.

Manzano’s lawyer Regidor Caringal, reports said, sent a letter to NBI Director Atty. Medardo de Lemos, that the actor Luis Manzano resigned as chairman of Flex Fuel in 2022.

Manzano’s lawyer also told the NBI director that Medel’s company even owed his client, Luis Manzano, a total of P66-million.

“I never took part in the management of the business. Bong conducted the business in such a way that operational matters were kept away from me,” Manzano explained.

Earlier, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a certification, informing the public that there are petroleum companies that are allegedly selling securities even if they have no license to sell them through 0945-2142457 or 09350151-4868. supposedly issued by SEC.

EduardoDiego has been cited as the Most Outstanding Italian Cuisine Specialty Restaurant in Cagayan de Oro by the Asian Sterling Awards 2022 , National Awardee for Best Authentic Italian Pizzeria by the Elite Business Excellence Award 2019, and awarded the Seal of Quality Excellence by Q Asia’s Quality Excellence Awards. Pascual added that some of these investment leads are offshoots of the foreign trips of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

“The increase in investments proves that the government’s promotional visit abroad, led by no less than the President himself, are working as a growing number of investors from around the globe – from Southeast Asia, the US, Belgium, China, and most recently Japan – have shown strong interest in putting in more investments into the country,” he said.

The trade chief noted that approved investments in less than two months of 2023 surged to PHP163 billion, from PHP249 million in the same period in 2022.

“BOI-approved foreign capital for barely the first months of 2023 has already reached 56 percent of the total figure for all IPAs (investment promotion agencies) last year. So, this year looks very promising with heightened prospects and through our collective efforts, we are on course to surpass the 2022 figure way ahead of time,” Pascual said.

MGLEA...

from page 1 the works and achievements of the awardees are pillars of strength and inspiration for all Mindanaonons, and worthy of emulation by the future generations. “We have continued holding this project because from our point of view as disseminator of good news, there is a need to sustain appreciation and recognition to Mindanao’s Governance and organization leaders who have shown their excellent leadership principles and best practices in governance which greatly their communities and groups towards development of our dear island Mindanao,” he said.

Sudaria further said that MGLEA will always be with these distinguished individuals in continuing their tasks in nation-building.

MGLEA Project Director Allan Mediante also said the Mindanao Governance & Leadership Excellence awards is aimed at giving due recognition to government leaders and private sector achievers for bringing fame and honor to their communities from the media’s point of view. The awardees tonight have been nominated by MDNN news bureaus thru out Mindanao thru interviews and reports of their constituents and consequently assessed by the MGEA media secretariat as worthy of recognition for their meritorious achievements.

These leaders have shown good governance and leadership traits and best practices in steering their communities and organizations into winning various achievement awards. Thus the need to trumpet their achievements through media platforms, such as the presenter – Mindanao Daily News, Mediante added.

According to Mediante , Today’s leaders are facing completely new pressures, both from within their own institutions and in their communities. Thus the need for transformational change. Those changes are only possible when leaders gain the support of stakeholders by embodying their institution’s values and demonstrating that their decisions are made for a greater cause and not for a personal agenda.

Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Roger G. Abaday in behalf of City Mayor Rolando Uy express support to the event and gave congratulations to the awardees. “We in the City of Cagayan de Oro is so thankful for the work that you have done. Thank you for helping others help themselves, for showing up through difficult situations.

We are so grateful for your service,” he said.

Moreover, Abaday told the awardees that their awards manifest that there are good men and women in government service. He also asked the MGLEA to continue your program for this motivated individuals in their discharge of duties.

Director IV of Department of Finance Dr. Bai Jam D. Disomimba, through her representative, who is the National Executive Level Awardee keynoted the Awards. She discussed more on the responsibilities of men and women in government service, initially quoting Section 1 of Article 11 of 1987 Philippine Constitution. “Public officers and employees must, at all times, be accountable to the people, serve them with utmost responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and efficiency; act with patriotism and justice, and lead modest lives,” she quoted, adding that she believes that recipients of that night have these values and have instilled this in their hearts this very significant part of the Constitution.

Disomimba also said that awardees gave their very best in doing their particular jobs in their field of expertise as it is what was required for them after they took the Oath of Office.

“They did this not because they expected to be recognized and be awarded later on, but because as public servants, we are deemed answerable to discharge our obligations as sworn as government employees,” she said. MGLEA awarded remarkable individuals from National Government Category - Executive Level, Local Government Unit Provincial, City, Municipal and Barangay Levels, Government Academe Leadership and Services, Professional Organizations, Socio-Civic Organizations, and Civil Service Careers.

MGLEA POJECT RATIONALE:

Governance and Leadership Excellence means being on the road towards what is better, more successful. This requires the leader to be committed to development and improvement and be aware of them.

He/she needs to know what should be changed and how the change is to be implemented and need to be going ahead on the road.

Executives and top managers in the government and private sectors know the challenges they face.

Leadership Excellence is the uncompromising commitment to value creation. It means a commitment that primarily arises from the leader’s personality.

Such a leader is solutionoriented in every situation, is able to take decisions even under tough circumstances, to undertake his decisions and to consequently make them happen. He is also able to align different interests as well as short-term and log-term goals.

He is not afraid of changes, he understands the necessary direction of development and he shapes it. Each leader has the potential to become his/her “better”, “more successful” self.

Leadership Excellence has dual meaning: on the one hand leaders achieve high performance together with their teams.

On the other hand leaders primarily assist and develop their colleagues, providing them with energy, inspiration and opportunities

The Awards is a social corporate responsibility project of Mindanao Daily group of Publications and co-presented by Veterans Bank and Alliance of Certified Enforcers (ACE), Limketkai Center, and sponsored by CEPALCO, FDC Utilities Inc., Del Monte, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, San Miguel Corporation and Dessert Boss.

Injustice...

from page 4 the last decade.” Poverty is indeed worse in the rural areas which is even aggravated by the Climate Crisis as the ecological people are the victims of ecological degradation. According to the same Study, the rural people are the most affected by protracted war and violent extremism. As farming has become non-viable anymore, 3 out of 4 farmers have already left farming, going to the urban centers to work as janitors, drivers, waiters and what have you.

How about our indigenous peoples? Well, they have become “squatters” in their own native land as the ancestral domain which their forefathers had occupied for hundreds of years are now converted into massive plantations. These are the “blessed lands” of our indigenous peoples and these are the choicest of land. According to a Study of the Development Academy of the Philippines, some 63% of Mindanao is now under the control of Trans-National Corporations (TNCs) and our IPs find themselves farming marginalized and highly steep mountainous areas.

“Gamay lang nga tulod, ang kabaw moligid na.”

AGAW GUBAT, AGAW LUPA. AGAW TUBIG. AGAW BUHAY. That is now the order of the day in the life of the Indigenous Peoples in Mindanao. The hundreds of thousands of hectares of the Ancestral Domain have been landgrabbed by powerful corporations in cohort with power-that-be and when the IP leaders would stand to resist, they are killed.

In fact, in the last 7 years, more than 200 IP leaders have been murdered including a lady datu for fighting for the IP’s water rights. Fear is indeed being used as a means to control the mind and to abuse the rights of the Indigenous People. In all of those killings, no one has been arrested. Thus, the killings continue without let-up. Thus, we can aptly say that the enrichment of the wealthy and powerful means the dispossession of the and impoverishment of the Indigenous people now living in extreme poverty and oppression.

The “blessed lands” have ceased to be so because these lands, where plan - tations have loomed, reek with poisons, having been bombarded for several decades with multifarious toxic chemicals, 8 of which are already internationally banned (based on the examined samples of water, air and soil in Davao.) Certainly, these chemicals are carcinogenic, the reason why cancer has become a common disease of the Mindanawons.

As for our fisherfolk, they are the ones catching fish, yet their children are hungry as malnutrition is highest in the coastal communities. This is so because the grandeur of the Philippine bays is now fast disappearing as they undergo progressive state of impairment and with it, the marginalization of the coastal populace. Unlike before when fish would literally jump into their “banca,” fish now can hardly be caught. Why? What are the fatal blows causing the death of the once mighty marine and fishery ecosystem? Well, the bays are treated as waste pits. First is industrial pollution. Chemical waste from industries and factories are dumped in the bays. Other silent killers are the internationally banned chemical fertilizers and insecticides which are heavily used in surrounding plantations.

These non-biodegradable, petroleum-based agricultural inputs are washed from the soil into rivers and into the sea, entering food chain and polluting the watersheds. I am very certain that these toxic chemicals are already in our water system, in the water that we drink or bath and water we use for cooking. Other countries have banned these chemicals, why are these being used by big plantations? Are we Filipinos guinea pigs? It is about time that we stop these plantations? For heavily using these toxic chemicals that have harmed the health of the people, some of these plantations are barred to operate in their own respective countries. That is the reason why they are operating (and expanding at that!) here in the Philippines particularly in Mindanao. What a tragedy! Gumising na po tayo!

The greatest social injustice committed against the Filipino people is the existence of so-called Elec- tric Cooperatives which as penned by Justice Mariano del Castillo in the Supreme Court 2003 decision are cooperatives in name only. After six decades of existence, these so-called Electric Cooperatives have never recognized the capital share/contribution of their 13 million MCOs (memberconsumer-owners) which when computed will reach more than a trillion pesos. Each MCO should be receiving at least P3,000 monthly patronage refund with some privileges of scholarship for the poor student-children and free hospitalization as being done by the Electric Cooperatives in the United States. There were those cooperative leaders who strongly advocated to correct such horrible social wrong like in the case of the Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative (DANECO) but they were brutally killed. If you were the Chairman of the Cooperative Development Authority and follow the constitutional pronouncement that the State shall promote cooperativism as instrument of social justice and would rectify such social wrong, you will be falsely found guilty administratively for doing your job. Ganito ba ka powerful ang mga OLIGARCHS masquerading as cooperatives? As mentioned, there are now some 13 milliion MCOs through-out the country. Thus, in a family of five, there are some 65 million Filipinos who are victims of this horrible social injustice. I pray that the present dispensation should look into this.

All told, the above-cited realities are some of the horrors of social injustices that have been rammed down the throats of our oppressed but struggling people. Apparently, the victims include the ecosystems that provide the life-support systems to our ecological people in defiance of the Constitutional Principle (Art.II, Sec. 16) that, “The State shall protect and advance the right of the people to a balanced and healthful ecology in accord with the rhythm and harmony of nature.”

Unless we rectify such, there can be no genuine development. Only maldevelopment that sacrifices the people and the environment to the altar of greed and profit!
