Large-scale topographical GIS database for the Hellenic Prefectural urban planning authorities Dimitrios Charalambakis – SingularLogic, Greece One of the greatest challenges that governments in the 21st century face is that of efficiently and cost-effectively keeping up with public demand. Increasingly, councils are under pressure to efficiently plan and manage resources, while keeping the public informed and opening the way for their participation. In response to these challenges, the Hellenic Ministry of Interior Affairs initiated a large-scale project, entitled “Electronic Urban Planning: A Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Prefectural Urban Planning Authorities.” The project aimed to introduce a private cloud-based GIS database for planning, monitoring and managing urban planning and land development for the 185 Prefectural urban planning authorities across Greece. SingularLogic was appointed to develop the system, tasked with providing the engineers and planners of the Prefectural urban planning offices – and the general public – with accurate, up-to-date information on urban planning legislation, and the tools to organise and manipulate this information accordingly.
