Coming together to make the city beautiful Bellevue is becoming greener by the day, thanks to a strong partnership with the nonprofit, Green Bellevue. Green Bellevue is “people coming together to
work with the support of our city leaders to promote a more beautiful and environmentally-friendly community.” Education programs are offered

Tree City USA
Ramp Up Recycling
Designated by both the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum as a Community Arboretum and the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA, Bellevue has 2,000 acres of forest within our city limits. For the past six years, Green Bellevue has been applying for tree grants and organizing spring and fall tree planting efforts, which has resulted in the addition of more than 975 trees in public areas. Each year two schools are selected to engage in tree planting on school property and learn about the history of Arbor Day. Schools interested in hosting an Arbor Day program should contact Don Preister at donp@greenbellevue.org.
The City of Bellevue’s new pilot Pay-as-you-Throw program hopes to increase Bellevue’s landfill diversion numbers; you can find more information about this exciting program at www.bellevuesolidwaste.net. In 2015, the City of Bellevue implemented its first public space recycling program. Green Bellevue is leading a countywide effort to increase recycling with a “Lighten the Load to the Landfill” slogan. Volunteers from all parts of Sarpy County can join in the recycling promotion and education efforts.
