PUBLISHER’S NOTE

Dear Readers, Now that the Florida heat is rising upon us, we can finally say that summer is here, along with all the wonderful experiences that this season of sun and fun brings. Days are getting longer, temperatures are getting hotter, and our economy is doing pretty great. The housing market is on the upswing and our local businesses are continuing to blossom. Summer is the perfect time to enjoy all the excitement Central Florida has to offer, and it is also a great opportunity to get out and partake in outdoor activities and summer sports while the sun is shining. The Summer Olympics are coming to France. Are you going? Please send us an email at info@StyleToMe.com. We’d love to hear from you! This installment of Orlando Style features the Elite Doctors of our great city. You have voted on it and we followed your advice. Here is a medical titbit on the side: I read that the human body, except our cerebral cortex—the portion of our brain responsible for consciousness—is entirely replaced every seven years. Although this may be an exaggeration, it’s an intriguing idea. Red blood cells are completely replaced every 120 days. Skin cells are changed out about every 4 weeks, and the surface of your lungs are only 3 weeks old. Our bodies are in a constant state of rebuild. In fact, by the time you read this, millions of your cells will have died and been replaced with new ones. Perhaps we are obsessed with newness because we are constantly renewing. Our Summer issue contains fabulous content for both all, showcasing, as always, inspiration for a fashionable luxury lifestyle. We strive to create every magazine issue so that it surpasses the quality and content of each preceding release. This labor of love requires total dedication each and every day. Orlando Style is always at the top of the charts when it comes to being the most loved, read and respected magazine in the city, we know that our readers are living proof of our recognized popularity. You can help strengthen our passion to keep producing this high-quality, fulfilling, and satisfying product by showing your appreciation for our efforts through your continuous support, as well as by encouraging your friends and acquaintances to join our list of growing ‘family’ members by subscribing to our magazine. Simply go to our website, www. OrlandoStyleMagazine.com, and click “subscribe!” or simply scan in the QR code below to get directly to the subscription page. Stay safe during this Hurricane season. A RECAP OF JUNE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA: A MONTH OF SUMMERTIME EXCELLENCE!

Independence day is right around the corner and so is our independence from the busy spring season because summer is officially here! We have a lot to look forward to over the next two months, but hopefully you’re not too busy for a moment of reflection as we look back on the good times we shared in June, just in case you missed it. Buckle up folks because we’re about to dive in! On June 7th, one of the largest pop-up art movements to hit North America over the past decade, celebrated more than 10 years of serving free pancakes and introducing attendees to some of the nation’s leading emerging artists. The Pancakes & Booze Art Show at The Abbey was not your stuffy wineand-cheese, pretentious, someone-gag-me art event. It was an innovative reimagining of the art show concept. A welcoming vibe for upand-coming artists to sell and strut their stuff in a free verse, anything goes environment. June 8-9 was a weekend full of endless fun thanks to the Endless Summer Music & Food Festival located at Festival Park. Hosted by Saigon Night Market, the festival was the perfect event to bring out friends and family for a memorable summer occasion. Visitors enjoyed 80+ multicultural food vendors & trucks, various music artists, dance performances, a live DJ & band, food competitions, contests, and even kids activities including a waterslide and inflatables for just $10 per day. Bok Tower Gardens presented a summer Fairy Festival like none other on June 8th! Fairy Festival was a magical day perfect for fairies and fauns of all ages with activities and entertainment taking place throughout the gardens. Attendees came dressed in their fairy best to meet fantastical fairies and awesome animals, discover hidden Fairy Doors, and delight their senses with art and music while a fairy godmother took flight from the Singing Tower as she danced amongst the trees. Men and women across Orlando were ready to strut their dad style on June 8th at the Curry Ford West Annual Dress Like A Dad

Pub Crawl! The funniest, most stylish night of the year featured seven awesome stops where participants scored a whopping nine free drinks and indulged in mouthwatering food and drink specials. Highlights of the crawl saw some challengers flex their dad humor in the Dad Joke Contest while others showed off their best dad outfit in the Costume Contest. With the addition of raffles and various prizes up for grabs, this year's event was truly an unforgettable blast!

goers could enjoy breathtaking aerials, an array of theatrical comedy, and breath-taking acrobatics created by former Ringling Bros. Ringmaster, Kevin Venardos. The captivating, animal-free show blends circus excitement with Broadway flair for memorable family fun. The circus runs until August 17th so don’t miss out on the fun of experiencing worldclass, death-defying acts that showcase the extraordinary talents of elite performers from around the globe.

In honor of Black Music Month and Caribbean American Heritage Month, The Winter Park Playhouse teamed up with Barbara Chandler Productions to present Rhythms of the Caribbean, an evening celebrating Caribbean music. This unique one-night-only event took place on June 13th and showcased Caribbean steelpan and poetry, Caribbean folk songs, and Caribbean Gospel singers. The successful event took place at The Winter Park Playhouse in their beautiful lobby bar/cabaret space.

On the evening of June 28th, The Balcony was home to Summer Soiree Date Night. The special event was tailored strictly for couples—whether engaged, dating, or returning to where their marital journey began. Attendees who met the criteria were invited to delight in a selection of fine appetizers, sip on effervescent champagne, enjoy captivating entertainment, and to revel in the romance of sunset views that set the perfect backdrop for an evening of love and laughter. Summer Soiree Date Night was a unique opportunity for couples to celebrate their love under the beautiful summer sky, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

On June 15th, the City of Orlando presented their Juneteenth Festival at Camping World Stadium which honored the resilience and achievements of Black Americans while fostering solidarity and understanding among our diverse community. The free event was open to the public and proved to be a spectacular day filled with joy, celebration, reflection, cultural richness, and community connection. World of Whiskey was a beverage festival with a twist like no other! On June 15th, Orlando World Center Marriott showcased the top 30 selling whiskies, scotch, and bourbon on the market today to whiskey aficionados across the city. As if that weren’t reason enough to attend, World Center’s Chefs also paired up with vendors to create a unique tasting experience that perfectly complemented the evening of whiskey samplings.

June also marked three months since the new Hotel Landy, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, first opened its doors to the public! The 400-Room Orlando Property located Near Universal Studios and the convention center offers amenities like access to an outdoor lawn, yoga studio, gym, and game room, as well as 10,000 square feet of available meeting space. Three distinctive dining venues, conceptualized by APICII, provide visitors with a variety of tasty food and beverage options daily: Émilie Bar & Lounge, Orly’s Market and Liquid Sunshine. Learn more by visiting hotellandy.com.

June 23rd kicked off a one-of-a-kind, limited-run summertime circus spectacular at Westgate Vacation Villas Resort. Thanks to a partnership with Venardos Circus, event

RECAP

A Black &White

Weekend in Recap Experience the magic where unforgettable moments meet a cause worth celebrating. By Maha Chaudhry

Reaching its 14th year in 2024, I’m In. Events brought back another memorable weekend for a cause with its Black and White Weekend. Included in the three-day weekend is the pre-party Friday, main event gala Saturday, and a pool gathering on Sunday at the hotel. For Black and white Weekend CEO and Founder, Heissam “I’m in” Jebailey, the event holds significant meaning. At the young age of 22, Heissam spent two months in the ICU, diagnosed with a life-threatening case of pneumonia. In order to survive, he would require a miracle lung surgery. Miraculously, Heissam pulled through and fully recovered. Since surviving his near-death experience, Heissam developed a passion for bringing people together for an unforgettable experience with affordable events that are geared toward fundraising for a good cause. Proceeds gathered from the weekend would support BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation. And just this year alone, the weekend generated $28,183.49, along with $4,596.00 in in-kind donations, in addition to over 45 volunteer hours. It’s a team effort, and a little goes a long way. I asked Heissam why he chose BASE Camp as the charity of choice and he shared that he previously owned the Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt franchise in Winter Park. This is where BASE Camp’s Children’s Cancer Foundation is based out of. One day, as he was preparing for the third annual Black and White weekend, he met a few representatives from the foundation at the shop. By then, the event was starting to receive a lot of attention. When Heissam learned the foundation was local, and that their mission is to support kids battling cancer on a weekly basis, the decision became a no brainer for Heissam.

24 | ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

The Annual Black and White Gala was hosted at 3NINE at the Rosen Plaza® hotel. The venue held ample space to connect, gather, celebrate and dance, and stretched out to the ’39 Poolside Bar & Grill. Throughout the night DJ Dennis Stelling, David Regueiro, Stilt Walkers, Julienne Botticello and Lyn Sky, among others, brought life to the party with music that had everyone moving. Also featured were onsite Who’s Hot Online interviews, a POSE photobooth plus 360, and more. Heissam prides the #committeefam on being the world’s largest Black and White Weekend for charity and wellness, and the only three day and two-night charity event of its kind. It’s a place where businesses, community and a good cause come together. Did you miss this year’s event? Not to worry, it will be retuning again on Saturday, May 17, 2025 to kick off another Black and White Weekend. So, don’t forget to pick out your formal black and white attire and purchase tickets ahead of time, as the always sells out! Follow I’m in. Events on Eventbrite for updates.

WOMEN IN LAW ORLANDO STYLE’S TOP

2024

BONNIE JACKSON Attorney Advocate for Justice Bonnie Jackson is on a mission. Bonnie’s father always said that “life is not fair.” While that may be true, Bonnie will never stop fighting for justice. Bonnie has been married to her husband of 29 years and together they raised three children in Orange County, Florida. Bonnie is the founder and President of The Jackson Law Firm, P.A. d/b/a Jackson Law International with offices in Florida, California, and Germany. In her 29 years of practicing law, Bonnie, along with her husband and law partner, established an international law practice representing clients from around the world. She has handled litigation matters involving international child abduction, fraud, invasion of privacy, foreign judgment recognition and enforcement, covenants not to compete, involuntary guardianships, injunctions, misappropriation, insurance disputes, assault and battery, and real estate disputes. Bonnie is fluent in Spanish and started her college studies at the University of Mexico City. Bonnie’s husband is fluent in German. After meeting in a law school study abroad, it was a natural evolution for the couple to embark upon a niche international law practice that reflects a shared passion for the law.

Committee of the Florida Bar, and on the Board of Directors for UCP Child Development Centers. She was appointed by the Mayor of Winter Park and served on the Parks & Recreation Commission and Tree Preservation Board. She also volunteered in her church in the Inter-faith Hospitality Network, the Pro-Life Ministry, and Sunday pre-school. Bonnie was also a contestant in the Miss U.S.A. Pageant in Miami, Florida in 1986. Bonnie is also an advocate for conservative values. She was the 2021 recipient of the Rich Crotty Service Award from the Orange County Republican Party, and the winner of the 2022 Republican primary for Florida House District 42. She continues to serve as a Precinct Committeewoman for the Orange GOP and is currently running for Orange County State Committeewoman. Life is not always fair, but it is full of opportunity.

Bonnie grew up poor while her father finished his Ph.D. studies at the University of California and her mother worked as a telephone operator. For a short time, her parents were on food stamps and her clothes were home-made or from goodwill. After graduation, her father was offered a job as a professor, but the cost of living forced her family to move to the Midwest. The family of five went from a two-bedroom, one-car garage townhouse to a four-bedroom, two-car garage home in the suburbs. Bonnie’s parents worked hard, sacrificed and saved to live the American dream. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, and a graduate of South Texas College of Law where she earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence. In law school, Bonnie was a Director for the Board of Advocates, competing in state and national mock trial competitions and earning honors for her speaking and advocacy skills. After law school, Bonnie served as an Assistant District Attorney before moving to Florida over two decades ago Her litigation achievements on behalf of her clients have resulted in a Life Membership to The Million Dollar Advocates Forum and The MultiMillion Dollar Advocates Forum, and she is a Lifetime Charter Member of the Rue Ratings Best Attorneys of America. Bonnie has been recognized by the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association and the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas for her service to the poor and as a Guardian ad Litem for abused and neglected children. Bonnie also served as Chair of the Orlando Grievance

Sleeping in Wellness Meliá Orlando Celebration By Maha Chaudhry If you have ever visited a Meliá resort, you are likely aware of the attention to guest experience and comfort you are provided during your stay. Meliá Orlando Celebration, is no exception. In fact, it has been tailored to suit your wellness needs. Established in September 2011, Meliá Orlando Celebration has evolved to introduce several enhancements, on an ongoing effort to improve the guest experience. In the last five or so years, the hotel became pet-friendly and installed a pet park area. This was followed by room renovations, and in 2022, Meliá Orlando Celebration partnered with the Wilson in Good Company Hospitality, a New York based food and beverage company, to bring a new dining concept to the resort. The Wilson, a full-scale restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, happy hour and dinner, was a turning point in the food and beverage space. It was also a gamechanger in setting the ambiance, as it brought with it a colorful display in the form of an umbrella canopy, which sits in the backyard of the hotel. But that wasn’t all. In 2022, the hotel also introduced 10 Delos wellness rooms, and that number is expected to increase in the coming year.

The stay

There are 289 guest rooms in total with over a half a dozen room types to select from. You have the choice to select from standard rooms to suites, some suites large enough to accommodate a family of eight. However, if you elect to stay in a wellness suite (Delos wellness room), your experience is enhanced with wellness amenities you didn’t know you needed. The spacious room’s featured amenities include:

- Guided meditation by wellness pioneer Deepak Chopra - Mood-enhancing aromatherapy - Air purification - Subtle lighting that simulates dawn as well as night lighting - A shower infuser with vitamin C-infused water that promotes healthy hair and skin - A welcome wellness amenity featuring awardwinning teas from Art of Tea

Starting your morning with a soothing mediation can make such a difference in your day. It adds an instant boost to your mood and can provide additional motivation to productivity in a purposedriven way. The mood-enhancing aromatherapy paired with the subtle lighting and air purification gives you a mix of soothing ambiance, fresh air and calmness. And last but not least, the vitamin C-infused shower is just an added bonus to your shower experience. The infuser neutralizes chlorine and other impurities on top of adding a dose of vitamin C to your hair and skin routine. Beyond the room amenities, guests at the hotel, local or visiting, receive other perks that are worthwhile. All guests receive a 10% discount on meals at The Wilson. Additionally, guests have unlimited access to the nearby AdventHealth Wellness Center, just a short two-minute ride away. This includes access to the on-site fitness center and complimentary access to daily fitness programming and group classes. Guests also benefit from preferential rates at the nearby Celebration Golf Course and enjoy shuttle service to the Disney parks in the area. The beautiful AdventHealth Wellness Center is a membership facility consisting of a multiple floor gym, group fitness classes, and a spa. I really liked the variety of options the wellness center had for classes like yoga, barre & stretch, RPM and more. My personal recommendation would be the BodyBalance class. Think vinyasa combined with pilates and deep breathing, and you have yourself BodyBalance. The instructor made sure to stretch everything in need of stretching using strength and grit, while bringing us back into the present moment in stillness. It wasn’t long before I returned to the wellness center for a Swedish massage. You have the option to choose from a variety of massages and add-ons for an additional charge. Though the massage is not included with your stay, it is a nice benefit within reach should you need some extra R&R.

The experience

In Orlando, summer looks like 50 shades of heat, however, Meliá Orlando knows how to turn even the warmest days into a cool celebration. By the pool, you will find a variety of events taking place, such as poolside Zumba, a cocktail making class, a paint and sip class, live entertainment, and sometimes even the dogs come to party. Yes, I said dog parties. On the weekends you may also get to experience a DJ on the terrace playing everything from nostalgic throwbacks to mainstream hits.

The hotel offers a program called “12 Months 12 Reasons,” in which each month is dedicated to a different theme, highlighting all the reasons why the hotel and area are a premier place to visit. Some upcoming themes in the summer include an entire month dedicated to sports, featuring the hotel’s soccer fields, volleyball courts, and other outdoor activities. The August theme is “Come Sail Away,” and each week during the month will be dedicated to a new destination from around the world. Come holiday season, the

hotel will transform into a festival of 1000 lights and will feature outdoor markets and holiday entertainment.

delightful way you can end your meal. But true disclaimer, you will be coming back for more.

Whether you are visiting from out-of-state, or are looking for a local staycation, Meliá Orlando Celebration is an ideal choice because it is inclusive and value-driven, and you can bring your fur babies along. The property is surrounded by pet-friendly facilities and your pets even hold guest titles during pet-friendly events at the Wilson. The hotel caters to those looking for a reasonable, yet luxurious and refreshing escape that can be affordable, comfortable, and offer a peace of mind.

The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining options. If you want to soak up some sun, you might choose to be seated poolside. If you want to experience dinner and a band night, or locals’ brunch, you can request or reserve backyard seating under the umbrella canopy. And, if you are looking for a more intimate experience, then perhaps you want to dine inside, or by the bar. No matter where you are seated, you are guaranteed a welcoming experience.

When it comes to entertainment, there is truly something for everyone. On the weekends, the hotel offers a Kids Club led by Montessori instructors. This is a great way to keep the kids both engaged and entertained. And for the adults, a complimentary daily happy hour is available, featuring a selection of small bites, beer, and bubbles and wine. I highly recommend the mini crisp tuna poke taco - it tastes like summer. I also suggest trying the parmesan and truffle fries because who doesn’t love truffle fries?

Meliá Orlando Celebration is a treat for locals and vacationers alike. The ample space, pet amenities, wellness suites, activities and events (both on and offsite), dining options, and warm hospitality, make the experience all that it promises to be.

The dining

One of the best things about staying at Meliá Celebration Orlando is having direct access to The Wilson. The restaurant knows how to deliver when it comes to top-tier cuisine. Open seven days a week, The Wilson offers breakfast, brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, happy hour, dinner, a raw bar, authentic brick oven pizza, and even a dog menu. For breakfast, I would highly recommend the French toast. There’s a reason it is considered a fan-favorite. Whether you have it plain or topped with fruit and Nutella, you won’t be disappointed. For lunch, I really enjoyed the crispy fresh fish tacos and the tuna poke bowl. Both were the right amount of light yet filling. And finally, for dinner and for my pasta lovers, my favorite dish was the shrimp bucatini - the stimulating flavors of garlic, chili, lemon, and butter were spot on and so satisfying. But make sure you leave room for dessert because the cookie skillet is the most

In summary

With that said, you don’t have to be a guest at the hotel to enjoy the onsite activities, as many of the events are available through Eventbrite for purchase. If you are looking for a way to celebrate or just a fun girl’s night option, you can look to the monthly options for the option of your choice. My friend and I enjoyed participating in the instructor-led sip and paint class. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the end product because it exceeded my expectations as it was my first paint class. Regardless, I was there for the experience, and a fun one it was. The Orlando location is one of over 400 locations on five continents worldwide. When you stay at Meliá Orlando Celebration, you automatically gain entry to the rewards program where you can enjoy benefits at all of the Meliá destinations. ABUNDANCE

It begins with gratitude, the practice of recognizing and appreciating the good in our lives." By Natalie Smith

Abundance is a concept that transcends mere material wealth, encompassing a mindset and way of life that embraces fullness, prosperity, and the richness of experience. It is often misunderstood as solely the accumulation of financial resources or physical possessions. However, true abundance is far more comprehensive, including emotional, spiritual, and relational wealth.

At its core, abundance is about a state of mind and heart. It begins with gratitude, the practice of recognizing and appreciating the good in our lives. When we focus on what we have rather than what we lack, we cultivate a sense of sufficiency and contentment. This shift in perspective can transform our outlook, making us more resilient, optimistic, and open to new opportunities. Gratitude fosters a positive feedback loop, attracting more positivity and resources into our lives, thus creating a virtuous cycle of abundance. Abundance also involves generosity. When we give freely—whether it be our time, money, knowledge, or love—we affirm that we have enough to share. This act of giving not only benefits others but also reinforces our own sense of plenty. It disrupts the scarcity mindset, which is rooted in fear and the belief that resources are limited. Instead, generosity creates a flow of energy and resources, often returning to us multiplied. Relationships play a significant role in the experience of abundance. Rich, meaningful connections with family, friends, and the community provide emotional support, joy, and a sense of belonging. These relationships are a form of wealth that money cannot buy. Investing in these connections, nurturing them with time, attention, and care, enhances our overall wellbeing and enriches our lives. Spiritual abundance is another critical dimension. It involves a deep sense of purpose, inner peace, and connection to something greater than ourselves. Whether through religious faith, meditation, or a personal sense of spirituality, this inner richness provides a foundation of stability and fulfillment that external circumstances cannot easily shake. Moreover, abundance is about recognizing opportunities and possibilities. It is about having a growth mindset—the belief that our abilities and circumstances can improve with effort and perseverance. This mindset encourages us to take risks, embrace challenges, and learn from failures, viewing them as stepping stones to greater success and fulfillment.

l ot FLORIDA’S e n s e SUMMER FASHION c a TRENDS tch si l ho u By Omayra Bella

Bright Hues, Striking Patterns, and Unparalleled Comfort

In addition to its hot summers, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture, the Sunshine State is renowned for setting fashion trends. Fashion trends this year are being driven by an amazing fusion of aesthetics, striking patterns, and Florida’s indisputable love of color and comfort.

Bright hues and striking patterns have triumphantly returned in 2024, reflecting the state’s sunny sky and vivid surroundings. Designers are using colors that reflect Florida’s tropical flora, sunsets, and coastal vistas, all inspired by the state’s rich ecology. Floridians are embracing these vibrant looks, demonstrating that in Florida, fashion is about comfort and usefulness as much as it is about creating a statement.

This summer, expect to see lots of rock and roll-inspired ensembles, unusual eyecatching attire, and unique silhouettes in Florida.”

This summer expect to see lots of rock and roll-inspired ensembles, unusual eye-catching attire, striking patterns, and unique silhouettes in Florida. There are plenty of bold fashion choices that can highlight a person’s distinct personality and individuality. This year, I’m seeing a major comeback for skirts in the fashion world after years of neglect. Just as with jeans, pants, and shorts, denim skirts, especially midi and maxi lengths with a more feminine aesthetic, are becoming increasingly popular; slip skirts and fuller shapes are particularly popular. I used to adore short skirts, but these days I’m really into midi lengths.

Remember that being fashionable is more than just adhering to trends—it’s about discovering and appreciating your own style. In 2024, I urge you to look at these trends and express your personal style. If you are looking to catch any of these latest fashion trends you can find a variety of them in stores located throughout the Mall at Millenia. Omayralabella.net @omayralabella

Because of Florida’s constant sunshine, sunglasses have always been more of a need than a trendy item. But as of 2024, they are the center of attention for personal style. This year, the fashion landscape has been dominated by distinctive designs with geometric patterns, vivid colors, and large frames. You are aware of my passion for accessorizing, and what better way to do so, than with wild frames and striking colors!

The Swim & Yacht Wear fashion shows during Orlando International Fashion Week (Swim Week) have served as a reference point for designers and trend-setters. The 2024 show this year was innovative and influential. Designers presented an array of exquisite, functional pieces such as sarongs, cover-ups, casual-elegant apparel, and the hat with a wide brim - that is always trending in Florida. They also highlighted the return of the preppy aesthetic and the micromini pleated skirt, which caught the attention of all the fashionistas. Predominately seen were readyto-wear collections, especially in terms of color schemes. Sage green, butter yellow, baby blue, and light lavender graced the runways. Surprisingly, there were a wide variety of headscarves. There are numerous ways to style a silk headscarf, and nothing says “unique spirit” like one. Silk scarves of all sizes, square and tie-shaped, were displayed on the catwalks. In addition to being worn as tiny sarongs, scarves were also worn as wrist and neck ties and, in certain cases, as complete cover-ups. Regardless of how you choose to wear it, this is undoubtedly the season’s must-have accessory. The state has a vibrant, diverse fashion scene with something to offer everyone. The trends of 2024 promise a blend of aesthetics, bold, brilliant colors, and patterns, making it an exciting moment to express yourself via fashion in the Sunshine State, whether you’re a local trying to upgrade your wardrobe or a visitor hoping to capture the essence of Florida style.

CELEBRITY SOUP

STARS WHO PURCHASED each other’s

Homes

58 | STYLETOME.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

It’s not just on the red carpet where celebrities run into each other! If shows like MTV Cribs have taught us anything, it’s that celebrity homes must be expensive, massive, expensive, located anywhere in California… oh, and did I mention expensive? Knowing how much income is required to be able to afford a multi-million dollar mansion, it should come as no surprise that many are owned by wealthy celebrities who purchased the properties from other equally famous names! Keep on reading to meet the stars who once called the same mansions their home! By Riesa Pascal

Justin Bieber | Khloé Kardashian In 2014, Khloé Kardashian purchased her 9,320-square-foot Tuscan villa-style mansion from Justin Bieber for $7.2 million. After six years in the house, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star made a substantial profit by selling her longtime home for $15.5 million to renowned YouTuber, Dhar Mann. Conan O’Brian | Kourtney Kardashian & Travis Barker Khloé wasn’t the only Kardashian to buy another celebrity’s mansion! After tying the knot in Italy, Kourtney Kardashian and Blink-182’s Travis Barker bought their first marital home together in Carpinteria, California for $14.5 million. The two-building compound comes with 50 feet of beach frontage and was owned by beloved talk show host Conan O’Brien. Charlie Sheen | Kendall Jenner Even Kendall Jenner has followed in her sister’s footsteps. In late 2017, the supermodel bought an $8.5 million Beverly Hills mansion that once belonged to Two and a Half Men actor Charlie Sheen. The $8.5 million home boasts five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a movie theater, swimming pool, tennis court, playground and of course much more. Emily Blunt & John Krasinski | Kendall Jenner Just one year prior to the Beverly Hills purchase, Jenner had bought John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s West Hollywood home for $6.5 million. Due

to various security scares including stalkers and burglary, Jenner quickly put the home back on the market and was even able to make a minor profit with a sale price of $6.85 million. Cameron Diaz | Ariana Grande In 2022, Cameron Diaz sold her Hollywood Hills home to fellow actress and star of the upcoming Wicked film, Ariana Grande. The sale price of $4.9 million was a significant profit from the $1.8 million that Diaz paid for the property almost two decades earlier in 2004. Ellen DeGeneres | Ariana Grande It seems Grande enjoys jumping around homes because just one year before the Hollywood Hills purchase, the superstar had purchased a Tudor-style home in Montecito, California that was previously owned by Ellen DeGeneres. Amazingly, the former daytime talk show host had only purchased the home a few months prior for $3.6 million, but was able to sell it to Grande for $6.75 million—talk about an amazing profit! Ellen DeGeneres | Ryan Seacrest Ryan Secrest has also purchased a home from DeGeneres! The famed television presenter reportedly paid $36.5 million to her in 2012 for his Beverly Hills mansion. In 2022, after two years on the market, Seacrest eventually sold the home for $51 million — a far cry from the $85 million he originally wanted in 2020.

Brad Pitt | Ellen DeGeneres It should be clear by now that DeGeneres is a sharp real estate investor, but just in case it isn’t, here’s yet another anecdote. In 2011, Ellen DeGeneres purchased Brad Pitt’s Malibu beach house for $12 million. Unfortunately it wasn’t a major profit win for Pitt who originally paid $13.75 million for the 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom estate. Adam Levine & Behati Prinsloo | Ellen DeGeneres In 2018, DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi became the new owners of a five-bedroom, 12-bathroom Beverly Hills Tudor-style mansion. The posh, 10,376-square-foot home was purchased for $45 million from Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and his wife, Behati Prinsloo. Jennifer Garner & Ben Affleck | Adam Levine & Behati Prinsloo One year after selling their Beverly Hills home to DeGeneres, Levine and Prinsloo purchased a massive Pacific Palisades home from the newly split Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck for $32 million. The property, which included a ranch-style main residence along with two other structures, was sold once again just 2 years later for $51 million.

CNS HEALTHCARE Robert Molpus, MD, Felipe Suplicy, MD, Tatyana Miroshnikova, MD, PhD, Patricia Brown, PhD, APRN, Letitia Griffin, MSN, APRN

CNS Healthcare has been Orlando’s longstanding leader in cutting-edge clinical research since opening their doors in 1996. Their team of physicians, nurse practitioners and research professionals have successfully conducted thousands of clinical trials at this premier downtown Orlando research center. Their dedication to research has culminated in the approval of over 100 FDA approved medications over the years. Those of which are now commonly prescribed and available at local pharmacies and have contributed to the wellbeing of hundreds of millions across the globe. Their success has caught the attention of the likes of primary care practices and specialty practices looking to expand. The allure of an additional service line and the opportunity to offer clinical trials as an enhanced care option can be very attractive. However, as many practices have found, with clinical research, comes a myriad of nuances, many of which create unexpected challenges. Having recognized these challenges, CNS Healthcare is

meeting the call and has partnered with local practices to help make the integration of clinical research a success. Recognizing that a one-size-fits-all isn’t feasible, there are several partnership models that CNS Healthcare and partner practices are engaged in. In some arrangements CNS Healthcare will deploy a team of research professionals who are experienced in establishing a research department within the practice. The research department will then manage all aspects of clinical research including trial placement, regulatory oversight, patient recruitment, project management, etc. while the practice provider(s) need only provide clinical oversight and conduct procedures as deemed by the study protocol. In other cases, they may simply support the practice in specific activities such as the recruitment of patients or IRB/regulatory functions. Each partnership is forged with an understanding of the challenges each practice is facing and can be fully-customized to meet unique challenges.

They can also help established research sites or private practices who are new to clinical research with the implementation of SiteCentric, a cloud-based Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) that puts all elements needed to run clinical trials efficiently into one platform with one log-in. This one-of-a-kind system was developed using over 25 years of input from their research experts and has been instrumental in the success of their research sites in Orlando, FL, Jacksonville, FL and Memphis, TN. To date, no CTMS system on the market comes close to SiteCentric capabilities and its’ built-in workflow efficiencies. Whether you are a patient who would like to learn about the benefits of enrolling in a clinical trial with CNS Healthcare or you are a practice who is looking for a research partner, we look forward to hearing from you!

MIND-BODY CONNECTION

When you walk into Jim Barrow’s space, you know you are in good hands. You are immediately met with a warm smile and welcoming demeanor, which makes the healing experience that much more inviting. For Jim, the journey of acupuncture and oriental medicine began in the 1990’s while practicing Chinese martial arts, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong. By Maha Chaudhry

Jim’s passion for martial arts was inspired by Bruce Lee movies and a TV series in the 1970’s called Kung Fu - with David Carradine. Beyond the exciting moves was something deeper that drew Jim into wanting to learn more. He explained that growing up he had never found a teacher of what is called “internal” martial arts. In the U.S., most martial arts are “external,” focusing on the physical body, while internal martial arts, like Tai Qi, and certain forms of kung fu, have emphasis on cultivating the body’s Qi or bioelectricity. The needle was officially moved during the time Jim was in the navy and stationed in Mayport, FL. There, he met Sifu Frank Palillo, a teacher of internal energy cultivation. Palillo was the first to show Jim how powerful qi can manifest during an exercise that consisted of holding a posture for 45 minutes. Though by then Jim’s muscles were on fire, all Palillo had to do was walk from behind him, move his hands across his back and the pain instantly vanished, all without touch, rather just through energy. It was in that moment Jim thought, “man, I’ve GOT to learn more about THIS!” And, after a substantial amount of reading, eventually all of the answers to his questions were found within oriental medicine. He found that the energy the masters cultivate to build strength, power and endurance, is the same energy used in oriental medicine to heal the body. Thus, began Jim’s forever livelihood. I had the opportunity to ask Jim to dive deep with me on the subject of acupuncture and oriental medicine to understand the many amazing ways the treatments can be used to heal a number of issues, and at last, how intersected the mind-body connection really is.

Would you describe acupuncture as synonymous to energy healing? If so, how does it incorporate the mind-body connection?

What are some of the most common things you have noted in your findings, and what are some of the most common symptoms you have seen in your clients? I’ve been in practice since 2001 and without a doubt the most common thread with most patients is what we call kidney qi deficiency. The kidneys are the most important organ system in the body from the perspective of Oriental Medicine. They are the battery of the body. All bioelectricity is generated by the kidneys. When a car battery is weak, any system on the car can be affected. Same in our body. When our battery is weak, any system can be affected. High blood pressure, thyroid issues, diabetes, insomnia, low back pain, migraine. That is only the start of a long list of symptoms that usually include kidney qi deficiency. Most people after 30 years old have some level of kidney qi deficiency. The most common cause, besides aging, is excessive stress and excessive caffeine. The most common symptom I see is pain. Headaches, neck pain and especially lower back pain.

Let’s talk acupuncture. How does it work and what are some of the types of issues acupuncture is best used for? Acupuncture is a system of medicine that is thousands of years old. The human body has a network of twelve bioelectric currents that connect to all the organ systems. The acupuncture needles are very thin (like a hair), and are inserted into special points along the channel or meridian. The steel of the needle is actually influencing the electromagnetic current in the meridian. The increased electromagnetic flow results in increased flow of oxygenated blood into the targeted area. Fresh, oxygenated blood flow is the key to healing. That is a very simplistic description of how acupuncture works considering the complex dynamics of proper assessment and effective treatment plan. Oriental Medicine is a wonderfully deep and broad body of knowledge that has been refined over thousands of years of practice. One can spend a lifetime mastering only small facets. I am honored to be able to share this treasure with others. Acupuncture is great to help with high blood pressure and cholesterol. Thyroid conditions, autoimmune disorders, digestive disorders, insomnia, menstrual disorders, menopause, migraine are just some of the many other conditions that I have successfully treated.

Acupuncture is definitely an energy healing practice. The meridian system is a series of conduits for bioelectricity. A practitioner will assess the condition through the perspective that stuck or stagnant energy results in bad symptoms. Resolving energy imbalance will result in biochemical homeostasis - the symptoms go away. Oriental Medicine recognizes that humans are comprised of three main parts: spirit, soul(mind) and body. The spirit is that part of us that is eternal. Survives after death of the body. The soul or mind is the part that is responsible for decision making. The Body is a vessel for the spirit and soul. The process for development goes like this. A well body will enable a person to have a stable emotional mind, able to refine qi to a higher level. Refined (purified) qi is allowed to purify the spirit. Conversely, an unhealthy body leads to an unstable and emotional mind. The Qi is not well purified, leading to further a disturbed spirit. How many treatments would you say it takes to notice a difference? Some chronic conditions may take a few treatments to notice improvement. Pain, especially from recent injury, should see improvement immediately or within a day. Some cases may take a couple visits to see a difference, but generally we want to start seeing pain improved right away. The number of visits usually depends on how long the condition has been around. Low back pain for the last 5 years may take 10 treatments or more. A recent sprain from the gym might just take a couple treatments. I would encourage people to try acupuncture for just about any problem you would see a medical doctor for. Unless a person in crisis, Oriental Medicine can offer incredible results without disastrous side effects.

HEALTH

I am fascinated with the meridian points on our body and how they are directly connected to vital organs. Can you explain in a nutshell the meridian connection through acupuncture, and how the process works? Sure. We have twelve main channels of bioelectricity (meridians) that flow throughout the entire body. These pathways have no structure like nerves or blood vessels. They are simply areas of high electromagnetic current. They connect to the different organs and supply them with bioelectricity as well as hormones. If the organs become imbalanced, the meridian associated with it can develop symptoms. An unhappy liver can lead to pain in the groin because the pathway of the liver channel travels through the groin. Conversely, a meridian that is impinged can block flow to the organ and cause issues. I’ve resolved many screaming colic episodes when my daughter was an infant. The channel in her legs was impinged because of the skin folds in her leg. Sometimes, as in her case, the skin folds of a baby are deep and impinge the channel flow. The spleen channel was the culprit in the case. When the baby started screaming, I started massaging the fold in her leg, and the screaming stopped. Acupuncture is moving qi and blood by stimulating the bioelectricity in the meridians. Cupping is using a suction cup technique that pulls what we call stagnant blood from deep in the tissues or joints. When the stagnant blood is pulled up into the skin, fresh oxygenated blood will fill the void and oxygenate those tissues. I like to use cupping on the back for certain types of pain, frozen shoulder and for stagnation leading to fatigue.

94 | ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

What are some of the other alternative healing methods you may use in combination with cupping or acupuncture?

Exercise is also a topic that is rich with options and opinions. The key principle to remember is your activity should bring blood flow to as many places as possible.

The allergy testing I do uses a technique called applied kinesiology. I test your muscle strength by pulling on your arm. I then have you touch special vials of water that have each been charged with a unique frequency. As you touch each of the vials, your arm may suddenly become weak. This means that the frequency of the vial you touched, short circuited your body’s EMF. We now know that our body is sensitive to that substance. We then employ a special clearing technique to negate the hyper sensitivity. We are able to desensitize up to two allergens about 80% of the time for most patients. That resolution will usually last from several months to several years. Most patients will need several treatments to resolve underlying food sensitivities leading to immunodeficiency. Then airborne sensitivities are able to stay resolved for long periods of time.

The third is one that doesn’t get enough attention but is most important. Disarm fear. Fear (stress) is like a knife in the kidneys. Stress is a huge factor in more than 80% of all medical maladies. Disarming fear comes from assurance. A person can get assurance by selfimprovement, meditation, exercise, diet. People also seek assurance in ways that lead to destruction. I’ve sought assurance from many different sources and methods. I’ve found that my only lasting assurance comes from a relationship with God. When I am in relationship with God, I have peace. I walk away from God, I become overwhelmed by life. Fear takes over. I encourage everyone, seek God. Well, there you have it - the healing benefits of acupuncture, and the mind-body energy meridian connection. Considering if oriental medicine is right for you? Visit www. balancingpointwellness.com.

I find all of this so interesting. I can say that after my treatments, I have certainly felt a difference in pain and stagnation, but also a noticeable lightness. My last question is a general one, what are three things you believe everyone should be practicing to live a healthier life? The first two are the same we’ve heard over and over. Eat right and exercise. “Eating right” however is a huge topic for debate and the same to be said for exercise. Basically, understand that, like a car engine, bad fuel and dirty air will create problems sooner or later. What kind of fuel to put in your body depends on lots of factors. More than can be discussed here. I simply encourage people to research and try what works for them.
