PUBLISHER’S NOTE

Dear valued readers, And we are already in April again, reminding me of an old saying, as it’s been said many times before: ‘There are some things you just can’t avoid: taxes and getting older.’ Well, hopefully our taxes will be taken care of by the 15th day of the month, but getting older is a different story. As much as we wish that aging were escapable, we just can’t seem to avoid it no matter how much we try. Even Orlando Style is now 21 years old - though we are working hard that it's never getting “old”… but always fresh and exciting. We may not be exactly certain of all of the mysteries of life, but as long as we live here on earth, we can continue to develop even better ways to keep our human race youthful, energetic, and healthy. Now that the chilly weather is finally fading away in the Florida sunshine, let’s take a moment to look at all the wonderful aspects of life, especially those new and amazing developments in the medicine and beauty industries. This “Body & Soul” issue of Orlando Style is here to remind us all to take a break, relax, and enjoy the lovely things of each day. Let’s not just stop and smell the roses, but soak up their beautiful color and enjoy watching them dance in the wind. Life is short, and those who take the time to allow their mind to linger on the sunny side seem to make this life a little bit longer. When we take care of our lives, from the health of our bodies to our happy mindsets, we’ll not only find ourselves enjoying life, but we’ll also increase the number of days we have to share with those we love. This month, remember to take the opportunity to see your doctor, hit the gym, visit the spa, and perhaps even splurge on an afternoon at the salon.

A RECAP OF MARCH IN CENTRAL FLORIDA: A WHIRLWIND OF EXCITEMENT!

Florida might not have much of a winter, but spring is absolutely stunning in the Sunshine State. As a result, March is a busy season for events throughout the City Beautiful. Here are just a few highlights, just in case you missed it! The first 10 days in March brought one of the States’ favorite fairs back into town! Founded way back in 1910, the Central Florida Fair attracts an average of 250,000 visitors each year with a variety of entertainment for all ages. The fair aims to celebrate the agriculture, education, history and cultural legacy of Central Florida. Through March 10th, visitors were able to watch creative arts and competitive exhibits in between enjoying traditional fair rides, games and food. Energetic music acts kept the fun flowing each day with live music on 3 separate stages while more than 2,000 livestock animals were also on display for all to see. Now in its 83rd year, Daytona Bike week was a legendary event filled with festivals, concerts, bike shows, street parties and much more. From March 1-10, Daytona Beach transformed into a hub of motorcycle culture during this annual celebration. Guests who brought their motorcycles along could even ride “The Loop” which featured 22 miles of open road for riders to enjoy. From high-end manufacturer displays to top-of-the-line gear and more, there was so much to see and do at Daytona’s beloved event. As part of SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Food Festival, guests of the park were invited to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with tasty food, seasonal cocktails and lively entertainment. From March 7-10 and March 14-17, the park was transformed with all the sights, sounds, and flavors of Ireland's favorite tradition on both weekends. The St. Patrick’s Day

Celebration featured an Irish Market Plaza that came to life throughout the day with incredible entertainers while guests lost themselves in Irish melodies as traditional musicians brought their beautiful sounds to Orlando throughout the day. Tastes of Ireland offerings even included an authentic Shepherd's Pie and a Shamrock Sour, the exclusive St. Patrick’s Day cocktail. On March 9th, those looking for a unique Central Florida activity joined Osceola History for an evening outdoor fundraiser to help Osceola History's mission to collect, preserve and share the County's history while promoting the area's cultural and natural heritage. Dine With The Departed was held at Historic Rose Hill Cemetery and featured a twilight dinner with some of Kissimmee’s departed graveyard residents. After the catered meal and a silent and live auction, guests were taken on a lantern-lit tour of the cemetery. All proceeds from this event benefitted Osceola History's educational programs and efforts to preserve Osceola County's oldest structures and artifacts. Those who were looking for an authentic St. Patrick’s Day celebration headed to Raglan Road at Disney Springs for the 2024 Raglan Road Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival. From March 14-17, the event featured live entertainment, traditional food, gift competitions, loads of giveaways and endless fun for all the family. Live music from award-winning imported Irish bands and the Raglan Road Irish Dancers were on all week in the lead-up to the mother of all Irish holidays. The most authentic Irish festival in America also featured five outside bars, fun St. Paddy’s merchandise, and much more. Barbecue enthusiasts got the best of both worlds from March 15-16 at Shamrockin’

Fest 2024! In addition to sampling mouthwatering BBQ, chili and sauces on top of beers and wines from around the world, attendees were also able to enjoy live music, a kids play area, parade, fire trucks and plenty more vendors who set up shop at Gator Harley-Davidson in Leesburg. Proceeds from the familyfriendly BBQ & Beer festival went to the Firefighter Charity of Central Florida, which helps local firefighters who are battling medical issues. It was a historical journey back in time at the Battle at Narcoossee Mill event in St. Cloud! Families from all over came out to watch an authentic re-enactment of a Civil War battle including seeing how the soldiers’ camped and watching the cavalry in action. Held from March 22-24, the 3-day event also featured an Education Day giving you a glimpse into life in the 1800s. Attendees also had the opportunity to stroll “Sutler Row” featuring over 20 sutlers, vendors and historical displays not to mention delicious BBQ and snack samples. It was educational, fun for all the family and truly made for a day out with a difference! Spring is in full bloom at Walt Disney World Resort! The popular and fragrant EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival sprung to life this month and runs through May 27 for plenty of days to enjoy fresh cuisine, colorful gardens, playful topiaries and vibrant entertainment. Gardeners will marvel at thousands of floating gardens, incredible topiaries, horticultural displays and tastebud temptations all around EPCOT. Plus, the Garden Rocks Concert Series returns with an incredible line up of headline acts and favorite tunes at the America Gardens Theatre. A VIBRANT RECAP FROM WINTER PARK FASHION WEEK

20 | ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

By Maha Chaudhry

FASHION

A FASHION WEEK RECAP Did you catch the fabulous Winter Park Fashion Week Show? If not, we have you covered! Recapping the 4th year of boutique runway fashion the event was nothing short of showstopper fun! Founded in 2020, with the first show held in 2021, the annual show is in collaboration with about 14 to 16 boutiques and designers. Sarah Grafton, founder of Winter Park Fashion Week, explained how she and her family have always loved to support the local community, and in doing so, the fashion show displays local businesses, while simultaneously supporting a different charity partner each year. This year the charity supported was One Heart for Women and Children - a charity that helps individuals who are homeless or in times of need by providing essentials such as food, clothing, school supplies and beyond. The event itself is run by volunteers and sponsors, and every year different brands have the chance to apply to be a part of the fashion show. This year, 15 boutiques and brands including The Grove, Arabella, Monkees, John Craig Clothier, Claudia Gutierrez Collection, Louise James and others, walked the runway. An additional fashion show day may be considered in the near future, as interest in participation continues to grow, however this would also call for additional sponsors and volunteers. Considering the consecutive success of the show, I am sure there will be heightened support for an extra day of fashion for a cause. “The overall goal of Winter Park Fashion Week is to showcase and celebrate the creativity, diversity, and talent within Central Florida’s fashion industry, while also making an economic impact to the businesses showcased on the runway, and our city,” Sarah said. “Additionally, Winter Park Fashion Week is raising funds for charitable causes, promoting local businesses, and fostering community engagement and cultural exchange.” In addition to a great show experience, I learned many of the photographers, videographers and the entire production crew was made up of the Full Sail University staff and students. According to Sarah, this brings a unique perspective as they take the show to the next level with their state-of-the-art facility and incredible talents. And, I would have to agree - the production definitely set the stage for a great night. Stay tuned for next year, as Winter Park Fashion Week will return with new styles, talent, and a great cause to support. www.winterparkfw.com.

Radiance My Kroma Wellness 5-Day Reset Experience with Lisa Odenweller By Josie NeJame

HEALTH

I decided to take health into my own hands." As spring breathes new life into Central Florida, I found myself yearning for a fresh start—a rejuvenation to embrace the vibrant days ahead. Enter the Kroma 5-Day Reset, a transformative experience crafted by founder and owner Lisa Odenweller, the driving force behind Kroma Wellness. This isn't just a cleanse; it's a journey into renewed vitality, an exploration of the power of superfoods, and a celebration of health without compromise. So, I embarked on 5 days of bliss and intention setting with girlfriends, indulging in all things self-care: walking in nature, massage, meditation, journaling, and connecting with those who bring me joy. In the whirlwind of our daily lives, our bodies endure stress, environmental toxins, and the demands of modern living. Lisa Odenweller advocates for the practice of an annual reset as a strategic pause—a moment to realign and rejuvenate. A yearly reset allows the body to shed accumulated toxins, kickstart new, healthy habits, and provide a foundation for sustained well-being throughout the year. I have to say that I loved how easy it was to incorporate all this organic goodness filled with vitamins & minerals, antioxidants, collagen, probiotics, superfoods, mushrooms, and adaptogens into my everyday life. I gave up coffee for the week, but I didn’t miss it. I replaced it with Kroma’s matcha blended with ginger, maca, turmeric, and blended mushrooms (chaga, cordyceps, maitake, antrodia, king trumpet). It has the tiniest amount of caffeine boost without the coffee side effects. The caffeine in matcha is absorbed and released slowly in the body over a period of several hours, so you get a steadier, more balanced boost. Plus, matcha naturally contains L-Theanine, an amino acid that helps calm the mind and boost the mood. The days would include a supergreen and a hydration elixir, super porridge, broths to take alone or add to your nutritious meal, and protein shakes. For someone like me who likes to snack (omg cookie butter) and drink teas and lattes, they provided that too. I would then end my evenings with their calming and restore magnesium made with 3 types of magnesium and blended prebiotic. I aimed to do something that would kick some of my old eating habits out and get me ready, excited about mood, energy, immunity, and hormone balance. It did all of that and gave me a clearer mind and a deeper rest. I also reconnected to what foods made my body feel its best. Here’s a recent chat I had with Kroma Wellness founder Lisa Odenweller

HEALTH

What got you started into health and wellness? I think I was born into ‘health and wellness’ – I grew up in a healthy family where we never had junk food, my parents exercised every day and my grandfather was doing 1000 pushups and situps a day until he was 90. So eating healthy foods and exercise was always important to me and something integrated into my life at a very early age. As I approached 40 and had 3 kids, I started experiencing brain fog, hair loss, weight gain, inflammation in my joints, exhaustion, poor digestion and had no sex drive. When I went to my gynecologist for my annual, she said “Oh honey, welcome to getting older.” Not only was that an unacceptable answer but that was a moment of truth for me and I decided to take health into my own hands. At the same time, my daughter was 12 (she is now 26) and had been on ADHD medication for 3 years – something I never felt right about except when we met with 5 doctors, they all said there was no other option than medication. By this time I had enrolled at nutrition school through Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and I was learning about the power of using food to heal. With this new knowledge, I started implementing simple changes in my diet and immediately started feeling better. Things as simple as removing gluten, milk, processed foods, sugar, nonorganic fruits and vegetables and eating clean, organic protein and vegetables. I also began incorporating superfoods like maca, spirulina, adaptogenic mushrooms, chia, flax, hemp seeds, green juices and more. Mind you, this was in 2011, long before gluten free and superfoods were a thing. As I started feeling better and my hormones started balancing naturally, I was relieved that I felt better but angry at my doctor that at no point did she ever mention that changing my diet might help me feel better. At the same time, I incorporated these changes into my entire family's diet and immediately my husband felt better, my boys were less hyper and even more incredible was that within 2

26 | ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

weeks of removing gluten and sugar from my daughter’s diet, she no longer needed ADHD medication. Once again, while I was thrilled to have my daughter off medication, I was livid with the medical system in that none of the 5 doctors ever suggested that food might be causing inflammation in my daughter’s brain, thus inducing symptoms of ADHD. It was at that moment I decided I had to share this information with the world and my entry into a wellness career began. Within 2 years of starting on this mission to help people understand the power of food as medicine, I opened the first superfood cafe in the country in Del Mar called Beaming which became the most successful concept in the country at the time and 5 years later I had grown it to 10 locations throughout Southern California. While Beaming was amazing, working with perishable foods was challenging and I wanted to reach more people everywhere. I ended up selling Beaming in 1017 and went on to create Kroma Wellness which I launched in July 2021. I love that you started making Kroma products in your kitchen. Can you explain the process and what is involved in creating these delicious snacks, and sachets of goodness? When I first discovered superfoods back in 2011, I became obsessed as I was experiencing first-hand how powerful and effective they are. Because I had been working with superfoods for so long and I am a self-proclaimed foodie, I geek out on experimenting and putting interesting combinations together that marry function and flavor. Not an easy task when many of these mighty superfoods and adaptogens like ashwagandha, mushrooms (Reishi, Cordyceps, Chaga, etc.) and spirulina taste really awful. The other challenge is that not all superfoods are created equal, so finding and sourcing the highest quality ingredients from around the world and testing was all consuming. From testing

100+ organic ceremonial grade matchas to finding the best ginger and turmeric to a maca that has 10x the potency of normal maca, to finding an organic maple sugar from a small farm in Vermont, to discovering a new non-lectin plant protein in Ecuador called Chocho, every ingredient matters. It took my daughter and I (we work together and have since she was 13) nearly 3 years of “mad-scientisting” to come up with the 15 products we launched with, along with beta testing our 5 Day Reset. To me, healthy has to taste amazing which is why I don’t compromise on any detail. You can tell that there is a deep passion behind this. It’s all in your details. Is your passion still the same or are you finding a new passion these days? I love what I do and feel grateful every day that I get to work with and learn from amazing people, am surrounded by so much support from our investors, customers and community and that we are changing lives. In saying this, running a company is not for the faint of heart - no matter how passionate you are. It takes tremendous resilience and a commitment to making time for the things that I love and make me feel good – dance, exercise, hiking, biking, tennis, skiing, being with friends, travel, learning, reading, playing, discovering amazing restaurants, etc. I believe that food is medicine just like you. There is so much power in taking control of your health. What do you think is the first step for anyone struggling to make healthy eating choices? I think you have to start with making YOU a priority – because no one else is going to. I also believe we often make it harder than it is, whether it is just committing to taking a walk and moving your body every day or removing gluten, sugar, processed foods and incorporating more organic vegetables

and clean protein. Every new good habit leads to another and it doesn’t all have to happen at once. As a Mom who raised 3 kids on her own with no help (and very little money) while building 2 companies over the past 14 years, I know first-hand how hard it is to make time for you and to make your health a priority. I also know my health (and happiness) is the most precious asset I have – if I don’t feel good and don’t take care of myself, I cannot show up for others. Which is why I created Kroma - to simplify your life by taking the fuss and complexity out of making healthy choices by offering delicious healthy foods, beverages, snacks and supplements that require little to no prep and can go anywhere with you. Whether you incorporate products like ours from Kroma or you love making healthy food at home and have time to do it, or you have access to other healthy options, the critical part is committing to making your health a priority. It is also important to realize that it isn’t about perfection and only you know when you feel your best. Find a balance that works for you and listen to your body. It is always talking to you! There’s a 2020 report by the Global Wellness Institute that says, women make 83% of health and wellness purchases, indicating a significant investment in this industry. Kroma is backed by some very prominent investors including Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Schumer and Jessica Seinfeld. I read somewhere that 90% of your investors were women. How can encouraging more women to invest in health and Wellness benefit everyone? Encouraging more women to invest in health and wellness can benefit everyone by amplifying their concerns and voices in an industry that historically overlooked their needs. Until the 1990s, women

weren't even included in clinical studies, which still blows my mind! However, with women now making 83% of health and wellness purchases, their investment in this industry signifies a significant shift towards addressing their unique concerns and preferences. This is HUGE. With funding from over 100 female investors, and being a female-led company, I am proud that Kroma embodies the importance of women's perspectives in shaping the future of health and wellness. By encouraging more women to invest in health and wellness, we can ensure that diverse perspectives and innovative ideas are brought to the forefront. Ultimately, when women have a seat at the table and actively contribute to decision-making processes, everyone benefits!

Plant-Based Protein powders, now with 20g of plant protein and all our favorite superfoods and adaptogens. As with all of our products, we searched the world for the highest quality ingredients to create the most delicious, healthy, no fuss foods on the market. I’m excited to know what the next steps are with Kroma Wellness. What can you share? Lots of exciting things are happening! We have been busy in the kitchen the last few years and for the first time since our launch over two and a half years ago, we are introducing 6 new products this spring! I can’t share all the juicy details but I will give you a little sneak peak at a few of our new products that will be launching throughout April and May. The first includes the first ever GlutenFree Bone Broth Ramen in a cup. Think – the nostalgia of Cup-of -Noodle soup and Top Ramen but now healthy with 15g of protein, bone broth, collagen, coconut cream, turmeric, adaptogenic mushrooms and veggies. It is honestly out of this world and I can not wait to share it with everyone! We are also launching our new Super Granola which, I feel quite confident, may be the best granola you’ve ever tasted! Not that the world needed another granola, but I think you will agree that it needed this one! AND, after spending three years perfecting our recipes, we will be relaunching our

CHIROPRACTORS

OF THE YEAR

DR. STEPHANIE KERN, DC

New Age Wellness - Chiropractic Care & Auto Accident Treatment Dr. Stephanie is a second-generation chiropractor, born and raised in the Sunshine State. Dr. Kern has been practicing in Central Florida for 10 years. She credits, much of her passion to help people naturally to Uncle, Dr Philip Mahan, and his story. When her uncle was 18, he was attacked and stabbed in the chest, with the blade piercing his lung and heart. After having his life saved at the hospital, Dr. Mahan went home to recuperate and was left with numbness and tingling down his left arm. He couldn’t play his guitar or even lift a jug of milk! “I had a friend whose dad was a chiropractor who gave me my first experience with chiropractic care. After an evaluation, he was able to re-align the joints in my neck and upper back, and I regained the full use of my left arm.” When Palmer College of Chiropractic opened up in my hometown of Port Orange, FL, it was a no-brainer for me once I graduated college. After graduating from chiropractic college, I took a small sabbatical and traveled to third-world countries such as Guatemala to give them chiropractic care that is not readily

available to them. After that, I settled in Central Florida full-time to practice. I currently work with anyone from babies that are two weeks old, suffering from ear infections, colic, and scoliosis to the elderly, and everyone in between. The opioid epidemic in this country has caused such a strain on families and our healthcare system, that everything we do is natural. We offer state-of-theart spinal decompression, cold laser treatments, rehabilitation services, medical massage, and of course, chiropractic adjustments. What makes us different from other chiropractic offices? Passion, purpose, experience, and techniques. We are also open on weekends which helps the everyday working person the ability to get the treatment they need. We also like to educate patients on what their issue is and why they need the care in a way they can understand. We like to treat every patient like family. Having a focus on wellness is important, we also treat auto accidents and trauma cases. Research shows after a car accident, those that sought care from a chiropractor first had higher chances of recovery. We are currently accepting new patients.

AMERICAN FOODS THAT MAKE YOU SICK AND THEY ARE BANNED IN MANY EUROPEAN COUNTRIES. Investigated by Sven J. Bode - Quote:”This generally does not apply to organic foods”

The food we regularly buy in grocery stores in the U.S. may not be as safe as once thought. Although most people believe the food in stores is harmless, a professor from England’s University of Sussex is raising concerns about what Americans eat. Various chemicals and substances that are popular ingredients in U.S. foods are actually banned throughout Europe. Continue reading to find out what some experts are saying about the dangers lurking in the U.S. food supply. SEVERAL U.S. FOOD ADDITIVES ARE PROHIBITED IN EUROPE Bread is a staple food in American and European diets. However, there is a major difference in the bread Europeans consume compared to the bread Americans eat. European bread lacks a specific ingredient: Potassium bromate. Food makers in the United States regularly use this chemical compound to strengthen dough. In fact, this additive is present in more than 100 products. But, Europe, China, and India have banned Potassium bromate due to concerns that it may be a carcinogen. Professor Erik Millstone, an expert on food additives at England’s University of Sussex, told CBS News that potassium bromate may be toxic to human consumers and could even cause tumors. Potassium bromate is not the only culprit. Other potentially harmful substances outlawed in Europe but found in the U.S. include: • Titanium dioxide (also known as E171) • Brominated vegetable oil (BVO) (E443) • Potassium bromate (E924) • Azodicarbonamide (E927a) • Propylparaben (E217)

However, this hasn’t stopped some Americans from relocating to other parts of the world where food regulations are stricter. From baguettes to focaccia, Europe is famous for its bread. But there’s one ingredient conspicuously missing: Potassium bromate. It’s a suspected carcinogen that’s banned for human consumption in Europe, China and India, but not in the United States. In the U.S., the chemical compound is used by some food makers, usually in the form of fine crystals or powder, to strengthen dough. It is estimated to be present in more than 100 products. “There is evidence that it may be toxic to human consumers, that it may even either initiate or promote the development of tumors,” professor Erik Millstone, an expert on food additives at England’s University of Sussex, told CBS News. He said European regulators take a much more cautious approach to food safety than their U.S. counterparts. Asked if it can be said with certainty that differences in regulations mean people in the U.S. have developed cancers that they would not have developed if they’d been eating exclusively in Europe, Millstone said that was “almost certainly the conclusion that we could reach.” It’s not just potassium bromate. A range of other chemicals and substances banned in Europe over health concerns are also permitted in the U.S., including Titanium dioxide (also known as E171); Brominated vegetable oil (BVO) (E443); Potassium bromate (E924); Azodicarbonamide (E927a) and Propylparaben (E217). >

SO, WHY HASN’T THE FDA BANNED THESE INGREDIENTS? Most Americans are likely unaware they are being exposed to substances in their food that Europe considers dangerous. Professor Millstone believes European regulators are more cautious about food safety than their U.S. counterparts. The FDA stated all food additives require pre-market evaluation before they are added to foods. These regulations require evidence that each substance is safe at its intended level. Also, the agency added that scientists review new information to reassess the safety of each substance.

WAYS TO

EMPOWER

YOURSELF By Natalie Smith

T

aking action is the bridge between dreaming and achieving. It's the force that propels us from the realm of wishes into the domain of tangible results. Yet, for many, the process of turning intentions into actions can seem daunting. Here are some empowering ways to take action and move closer to your goals.

4. Take the First Step:

8. Visualize Success:

The hardest part of taking action is often starting. Overcome this inertia by committing to taking just one small step today. Whether it's making a phone call, writing the first paragraph, or setting up a meeting, getting started is half the battle.

Visualization is a powerful tool to reinforce your commitment to action. Imagine yourself achieving your goals in vivid detail. Visualizing success not only keeps you motivated but also helps to clarify your path forward.

5. Stay Consistent:

9. Celebrate Milestones:

1. Set Clear Goals:

Consistency is key to progress. Make a commitment to work on your goals regularly, even if it's just for a short amount of time each day. This habit of consistent action builds momentum and keeps you moving forward.

Don't forget to celebrate your achievements along the way. Each milestone reached is a testament to your hard work and dedication. Celebrating these victories boosts morale and reinforces your commitment to the journey.

Before taking action, it's crucial to know where you're heading. Set clear, specific, and achievable goals. Whether they're short-term milestones or long-term aspirations, having a roadmap will guide your actions and keep you focused. 2. Break it Down:

6. Stay Flexible:

Large goals can be overwhelming. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks. This not only makes the goal seem more achievable but also provides a clear path forward. Each small step completed is a victory that propels you closer to your ultimate objective.

Life is unpredictable, and obstacles are bound to arise. Stay flexible in your approach and be willing to adapt to changing circumstances. If one path is blocked, find another way around. Flexibility allows you to overcome challenges and keep moving towards your goals.

3. Create a Plan:

7. Stay Accountable:

Once you have your goals and tasks outlined, create a plan of action. Determine the steps you need to take, the resources required, and any potential obstacles. A well-thought-out plan will give you direction and increase your chances of success.

Share your goals with a friend, mentor, or accountability partner. Having someone to check in with can provide motivation and encouragement. Additionally, tracking your progress through journals, apps, or checklists keeps you accountable to yourself.

10. Keep Learning & Growing:

Finally, never stop learning and growing. Seek out new knowledge, skills, and experiences that will support your goals. Continuous improvement ensures that you are always evolving and moving closer to your dreams. Taking action is not always easy, but it is the catalyst for turning dreams into reality. As the curtain gracefully descended on the 96th annual Oscars, Hollywood's luminaries graced the red carpet, leaving an indelible mark on the world of fashion. Let's unravel the mesmerizing looks that stole the spotlight and forecast the Spring trends that are destined to dominate wardrobes in the coming months. Here are the leading ladies and trends that stole the spotlight: Old Hollywood Glamour: Zendaya and Emily Blunt

line bracelets, and cocktail rings, personified enchanting elements.

Zendaya brought the allure of Old Hollywood to the forefront, channeling sophistication and timeless elegance in an antique silk Armani Privé gown. Embroidered with a palm tree print and embellished gunmetal palette bodice, Zendaya's look was a true nod to the golden era of cinema. Adorned with Bulgari jewelry (she is the face of the brand), including two triangular morganite earrings weighing over 40 carats, two cushion pink tourmalines at over 8 carats, two Mandarin garnets at 3 carats, two marquise diamonds at 1 carat each, and another carat of pave diamonds. Truly jaw dropping. She completed her outfit with black Romy Jimmy Choo heels. Zendaya seamlessly blended classic glamour with modern sophistication.

Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy followed suit in a frosty blue Louis Vuitton gown with hand-done feather detailing out of deconstructed chiffon and tulle. The powdery pastel gown featured contrasting textures and several eyecatching details including a shimmering bodice, sheer skirt, a feather wrap style sleeves and a train that showed several feet behind. Radiant in Moussaieff high jewelry, she wore exquisite diamond drop earrings with a total diamond weight of 18.64 carats, set in platinum. Joy's look was a whimsical journey into mermaidcore, showcasing contrasting textures and stunning details.

Emily Blunt was a vision in a nude sequin gold beaded Schiaparelli gown, playing homage to Old Hollywood. The gown featured an outlined trompe l’oeil boxer short motif and sculptural elevated straps. Paired with Tiffany and Co. jewelry, including a necklace with over 60 carats, 6-carat diamond studs, and a 10-carat Schlumberger ring, Blunt's look exuded the timeless charm of a bygone era. Mermaidcore/Peplum Enchantment: Lupita Nyong'o, Da’Vine Joy, Anya Taylor Joy, Emma Stone and Gabrielle Union Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o embraced the ethereal allure of mermaidcore in an icy blue Armani gown, reminiscent of her iconic 2014 Oscar-winning gown. Her plunging V-neck gown was adorned with sequins and pale blue feathers at the waist. Her De Beers jewelry, including 'Thames Path' diamond drop earrings,

Anya Taylor Joy made a splash in the mermaidcore trend, donning a Dior gown that took 3,500 hours of hand embroidery to make. It featured a strapless bodice adorned with silver beading and appliques that mimicked fish scales. Resembling Botticelli’s Venus, Taylor-Joy sparkled in Tiffany and Co.’s 2023 Blue Book collection named “Out of the Blue” diamond necklace, ring and silver Max Jimmy Choo heels. Peplum made a triumphant return, showcased by Oscar Winner Emma Stone in a custom-made strapless Louis Vuitton sorbet mint gown—a nod to her character Bella Baxter. We’re now calling this form of fashion method dressing. The flair wasted gown was reminiscent of an oyster shell with its shell patterned fabric. She wore Louis Vuitton shoes. The gown was complemented by a white gold, sapphire, and 30 carat yellow diamond necklace from the Louis Vuitton high-jewelry collection. Oscar winner Gabrielle Union stunned in a silver strapless peplum mini dress and matching maxi skirt by Carolina Herrera. Her shoes were black satin

Stuart Weitzman. Gabrielle’s look was accentuated by Tiffany and Co.’s platinum and aquamarine necklace, coming in a 31 carats, soleste earrings and diamond ring. Feminine Elegance: Ariana Grande and America Ferrera Oscar Nominee America Ferrera graced the red carpet in a pink chain mail Atelier Versace gown (method dressing), a dazzling creation that took 400 hours and seven people to make. It looked like she could dance the night away. Especially, in her custom dyed pink satin shoes by Stuart Weitzman. Completing her look with 'Thames Path' diamond drop earrings, line bracelets, and cocktail rings by De Beers, Ferrera was the epitome of femininity, adding a touch of sparkle to the night. Ariana Grande embraced femininity and Glenda (method dressing) in a custom pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture ruched column gown. Her voluminous cape draped over, creating a sea of pink to flow with her every movement. Adorned with Tiffany and Co. jewels featuring morganite earrings weighing 34 carats and over 7 carats of diamonds. Not to mention her 14 carat morganite pendant. Ariana wore pink Romy Jimmy Choo heels. The Wicked star’s ensemble radiated her “Popular” charm and grace. As we bid adieu to the Oscars, these leading ladies have not only stolen the show but have also set the stage for the captivating trends that will define Spring fashion. Get ready to embrace the allure of Old Hollywood, the enchantment of mermaid core, and the celebration of femininity in your own wardrobe. The red carpet may have been rolled up, but the fashion reverie continues, leaving us eagerly anticipating the next glamorous affair this Spring.

CELEBRITY Stage Names That Will Surprise You

By Riesa Pascal

DISCOVER THE HIDDEN IDENTITIES BEHIND THE GLAMOUR AS WE UNVEIL EIGHT SURPRISING CELEBRITY STAGE NAMES

CELEBRITY SOUP

From Childish Gambino and The Weeknd to Ice Spice and Doja Cat… sometimes a celebrity’s stage name is so bizarre that there’s no need to question if they were actually born with the chosen moniker. However, there are plenty of other stars who’s transition from one name to another was so seamless that even their fans are unaware of the truth behind their stage name transformations. Take a look below for unique stories behind the names of some of your favorite celebs.

Judy Garland Dorthy may believe “there’s no place like home,” but it doesn’t appear that Judy Garland would say that’s true about birth names! The Wizard of Oz star was born Frances Ethel Gumm to a family of entertainers and grew up on stage as one third of the “Gumm Sisters.” However, the name didn’t truly capture the glamor they sought after which sparked Judy’s name change. Her last name was inspired by the moment when comedian George Jessel suggested during a performance that she and her sisters deserved something theatrical, like “Garland.” A year later, she took inspiration from Hoagy Carmichael’s famous song, “Judy” to come up with a new first name as well. Nicolas Cage It’s refreshing to come across a celebrity who is actively against nepotism which was the case for Nicolas Kim Coppola who you know better as Nicolas Cage. As the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, Cage resented jokes about the connection to his famed uncle so he adopted the surname “Cage” as a combination of his favorite marvel character Luke Cage as well as John Cage, the avant-garde composer. Joan Crawford Like many performers who came before her, Joan Crawford changed her name as her acting career began. However, unlike others on this list, the name chosen was completely out of her control. Upon signing an initial six-month contract with the popular studio MGM under her birth name Lucille Fay LeSueur,

executive Louis B. Mayer launched a fan-magazine contest to find Lucille a new, easy-to-pronounce name. The competition resulted in “Joan Crawford’’ which she allegedly never became a fan of herself. Elton John Acclaimed by critics and musicians around the world, Elton John is a man who needs no introduction, but the same can’t be said when introducing him by his birth name of Reginald Kenneth Dwight. Not only did John want to distance himself from a birth name that he considered too ordinary, he also sought a new identity due to complicated relations with his family. His new name was inspired by two members of his former band Bluesology: saxophonist Elton Dean and lead singer Long John Baldry. Natalie Wood Although she began her career in film as a child and successfully transitioned to young adult roles, some would argue that Natalie Wood’s success was only made possible by a name change. Wood was born Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko and had her last name changed to “Gurdin” when she was only a few years old. As producer of Tomorrow is Forever, a film in which Wood acted in at age six, Bill Goetz changed her name even further to “Natalie Wood” so it would look better outside of theaters. She never legally changed her name from Natasha (the Russian pet name for Natalia) Gurdin and she continued to use the name as well as Natalie with friends and family throughout her life.

Kirk Douglas A first-generation American, Kirk Douglas was born Issur Danielovitch Demsky to Russian Jewish immigrants. He soon adopted the name “Kirk Douglas” to fit into America and navigate through an entertainment industry that was heavy with discrimination against his heritage at the time. Douglas spoke about his name change much later in life saying, “I wish I had kept it. It’s more interesting to keep your original name. But can you imagine that name on a marquee?” Tina Turner Known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, the late Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock and adopted the name Tina Turner during her rocky marriage to R&B singer Ike Turner. Turner rose to prominence as lead singer of the husband-wife duo “Ike & Tina Turner Revue” and insisted on keeping the stage name as part of their legal agreement even when their marriage ended in a tumultuous divorce. In 1978, she even registered a trademark on the name that undoubtedly still held painful connections to her past. Cary Grant Legendary actor Cary Grant was born Archibald Leach which studio executives at Paramount Pictures didn’t believe was a fitting name for the traditional image they wanted to portray of a leading actor. After he signed a contract with them in 1932, he was given the name “Cary Grant” which he later adopted as his legal name in 1941.

LIVING ‘N HARMONY

S

pring is here and April brings us warmth and an uplifted spirit.

Mercury is officially in retrograde staring on April 1st until the 24th. Although there is more sunshine and optimism in the air, Mercury in Retrograde may produce some confusion and chaos for the next 23 days. Mercury affects the way we communicate and think, try to not force anything and accept things as they are. You may have some misunderstandings, appointments might be missed, and technology could crash. Gemini, Virgo, and Aries will be affected the most. On April 8th there is a New Moon in Aries and a Full Solar Eclipse. This important astrological event will not happen again until 2045 and the last time was 2017. The shadow of the moon will plunge a narrow strip of land into darkness in the middle of the day, this is an astrological experience like no other and will be accessible to millions of people. The Eclipse will be visible over the Pacific ocean, parts of America and areas of Mexico. The effects will be an intense fiery energy and conflict between head and heart. Emotions will run high. It is best to not have difficult conversations at this time, its not the time to talk through arguments. Ancient astrologers believed that Solar Eclipses were karmic events that helped to balance the scales of justice in the world. They were considered portal openers, helping us raise our consciousness and access higher frequencies. To help balance your energy levels during this eclipse, try some grounding exercises and meditation. With the New Moon on this day, don’t forget to set your intentions for this cycle. This is the time to dream and manifest anything you want. Journal and visualize what you want to manifest. On April 21st the sun moves into Taurus until May 20th. The influence of Taurus is all about indulging in the richness of life, prioritizing pleasure over anything, and finding balance and stability in all aspects of life. April 24th brings in a Full Moon in Scorpio. This Full Moon creates the need to delve into your feelings as deep as possible. You will desire meaningful emotional exchanges now more than ever, even if it’s not easy. You will crave connection, validation, and closeness. Surround yourself with the right people. Journal and ask yourself, “ What am I ready to release and let go of?” Cleanse your space and meditate on what is no longer needed in your life.
