Shrek The Musical opens at Champness Hall this spring!
Excitement is building for the highly anticipated 'Shrek The Musical', as Rochdale Musical Theatre Company (RMTC) bring this hilarious, heart-warming, larger than life production to Rochdale Town Centre this spring!
The company are set to transform the iconic Champness Hall into their fairytale swamp for nine unforgettable performances, from 9th-17th May 2025.
Based on the Oscar-winning Dreamworks film, Shrek The Musical is a whirlwind fairytale adventure, bringing all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, with a talented cast, spectacular costumes, fantastic puppets and a live orchestra.
Follow Shrek and Donkey on their daring quest to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona. Meet a soul singing Dragon, a Gingerbread man with attitude, Pinocchio and a whole bunch of fairytale misfits, in this family friendly show, for all generations to enjoy.
Founded in 1898, the society are in their 127th year of bringing musical theatre to Rochdale.
The company's 2025 production follows their hugely popular, sell-out runs of Grease and Beauty and the Beast. With over 1700 tickets already sold for Shrek The Musical, the society look to be heading for another highly successful run.
Talented local performer, Gareth Baddeley, explains why taking on the role of Shrek is his dream come true:
"I think I know Shrek the movie like the back of my hand. I always loved how the story subverted the fairytale structure and sought to champion people’s diversities and differences. To be able to play Shrek is an absolute dream, so much fun bringing such a massively recognisable character to life on stage! You must only miss this show IF you are allergic to smiling! Come join us in the swamp!!"
Directed by Seb Lassandro, with musical direction by Chris Addington and choreography by Nikki Cooke of Legacy Dance Academy, the production will truly showcase the incredible talent we have locally.
