PLUS Summer Courses

PLUS Junior Courses The Plus course gives students a great balance between studying English and an action-packed activity and excursion programme. There are 20 lessons per week, with between twelve and fifteen students per group. The lessons are fast-paced, exciting and contemporary, and are designed to focus on building your communication skills and confidence in using English. Outside of class, students spend time participating in a range of engaging activities and excursions. There is at least one full day excursion per week. The timetable is structured to keep students as active as possible at all times of the day. During excursions there will also be some project-work to carry out. We use a wide range of teaching media to ensure students get the most out of the classroom based learning with some of our centres benefiting from interactive whiteboards. On successful completion of the programme, students graduate and receive a Plus Course Certificate.

Welfare As a provider of British Council and ABLS accredited courses, it is our mission to raise the standard and quality of experience for students, making sure that our students experience the best lessons and extra curricular activities in a safe and supervised environment. Our on-site welfare and support staff are on hand 24 hours a day- should you need any help while you are with us. All Plus Staff undergo induction training by our Head of Operations Staff. Teachers and Leisure organisers are all specifically trained to work with non English speakers and all teachers must have a minimum TEFL qualification.

The Premier Intensive English Course Offered in the UK, this is a fully integrated course of English and activities with a focus on students learning both through general English classes and a series of lessons and educational activities which require use of the language, giving further exposure and practice. This course focuses on the students and helping them develop a range of skills. It will teach, develop and improve both a students’ level of English and their personal and social characteristics. The course will give general English tuition each morning and will then use a variety of classroom and non-classroom based lessons to further develop a student’s skills each afternoon. The whole programme is designed to include a varied but integrated selection of lessons and activities. Energy levels, concentration spans and the need for a balance between fun, relaxation and study have all been considered to ensure that the varied programme maximises the learning potential of each student. • Individual students accepted • Maximum 8 student per group

Maximise your PLUS experience with a wide variety of optional supplements to choose from, these include: museums, attractions, musicals and amusement parks to name a few. You can add these on to the Standard Package which consists of accommodation, tuition, activity programme and excursions. These additional services will enhance the package making it truly unique for each group of students.

Optional Excursions: In addition to the included activities and excursions programme, we offer students the chance to go on additional full day and half day optional trips at an extra charge. You will be able to book per seat on coaches for these excursions. This provides you with the ability to create a better package at a lower rate. Destinations on offer are different per centre and include of Brighton,Cambridge, Cardiff & Gower, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Oxford. Optional Attractions: In additio to the included sites and attractions students visit within their package you are able to make a “tailor made package” by adding additional entry into attractions at an extra charge. The attractions offered are different per centre, examples of these are: Tower of London, Madame Tussauds, London Eye, Hard Rock Café, Thorpe Park, Broadway productions, Stratford Upon Avon, Stonehenge. Trinity Exam: The Trinity Graded Examination in Spoken English is an exam which students can take towards the end of their study course. The exam is a one-to-one oral exam, which will test the students’ ability to understand and speak English. There are 12 different levels from Elementary to Advanced. Students will obtain an official internationallyrecognised certificate from Trinity if successful. Trinity preparation lessons can also be offered (usually in the afternoons and as an extra to the study course) at an additional cost. Optional supplements can be booked through the interactive PLUS Vision System. 7

Integration with English and American Teenagers at PLUS Summer School In collaboration with the top sports schools in America and England we have developed unique sports and integration programmes for both girls and boys. These exceptional programmes offer the students the opportunity to develop and improve their language skills through morning lessons and progress in sports through afternoon coaching. These structured programmes provide a fun environment for students to learn English and improve their sports skills while discovering their chosen destinations.

England â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Integration programme Loughborough campus The Integration programme offered at our Loughborough campus allows for students to be integrated with English students through a wide variety of sports. This campus offers world class facilities with qualified coaches; there is a low student ratio per sports coach (12:1). Students will develop and improve their team building and leadership skills while participating in the sports activities.

America â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Nike and Basketball Sports Integration programme Nike Sports Integration programme The Nike integration programme, offered at our New York Rider and Boston campuses provides our students with the opportunity to integrate with American students through a structured programme of sporting activities. The programme is offered to both boys and girls. There will be Nike instructors ready to work with our students and provide them with an experience they will not forget while training in sports they are passionate about. Basketball Sports programme The Basketball programme, offered at our New York Rider campus is for both boys and girls under the age of 16 (years). All our coaches are trained to a professional level. Whether the students are newcomers to the sport or at a professional level, this programme is uniquely designed to help young basketball players develop their skills and game play.

Each afternoon the students will spend half their time in dancing class and half their time in singing and acting class. London Twickenham St Mary’s University Twickenham is situated southwest of Central London and is close to the River Thames. It is a beautiful suburban area, rich in history and culture. St Mary’s was founded in 1850 making it the oldest Catholic college in the United Kingdom. Bath Royal High School Bath, one of England’s most beautiful cities, is in south west England about an hour from London. Designated by UNESCO as a world Heritage Site, Bath has a variety of theaters, museums and other cultural venues including the world famous Roman Baths. Numerous cafes, bistros, sophisticated shops and boutiques make Bath one of the most interesting and elegant sights in Europe. The PLUS centre is located at the leading school for girls in the area. It is just outside the city centre and it can be easily reached by bus which stops right in front of the school. The Campus is self contained and all facilities are within easy walking distance. Bedford Greater London

Bedfordshire Bedford University Bedford is a riverside town in Bedfordshire with London and Cambridge only 40 minutes away. It offers a selection of facilities for cultural and leisure pursuits. St Paul’s church, the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery and the Bedford Museum are some of the town’s tourist attractions whilst the River Festival held during July, one of the major regional events, attracts over 250,000 visitors every year. Our PLUS centre is based on the main University campus which is only a 20 minute walk from the town centre. The University offers a free bus service that runs between Bedford town centre and the campus, so it is easy to get around. Luton and Bedford are on the same train line into London’s St. Pancras International station and it takes around 40 minutes from Bedford and 22 minutes from Luton on a fast train. The campus has undergone a redevelopment and it has excellent facilities.

Canterbury

Canterbury University of Kent Canterbury is a historic city in south east England, about an hour from London. It is world famous for its magnificent cathedral - a World Heritage Site. Surrounded by its original Roman walls, Canterbury is home to traditional cobbled streets and many medieval buildings of great historical significance. Canterbury has also developed into a vibrant university city, with an excellent shopping centre and a huge variety of cafes, restaurants and attractions. The PLUS campus in Canterbury is built on 300 acres of parkland overlooking the city. Modern buildings are surrounded by open green spaces, courtyards, gardens, ponds and woodland, with a beautiful view across Canterbury. It is a lovely environment for students to both study and relax. The Canterbury campus is selfcontained, which means that all facilities are within walking distance. TERMS & CONDITIONS 1 BOOKING CONDITIONS By submitting the Booking Application, the Agent formally agrees to abide by PLUS Terms & Conditions set herein . 2 DEPOSITS If the booking is accepted, the Agent must pay, by the date indicated, a non-refundable deposit of £ 120.00 for UK and $ 120.00 for USA per person upon confirmation of the booking. Failing this, the places will be automatically released with no further communication. Partial payments, payment falling short of the full amount due and/or notification of payments will not be sufficient to retain bookings. Changes of services, facilities or dates of programmes are avoided whenever possible. In these circumstances PLUS shall either offer equivalent services/facilities or refund in full all fees paid. No other claims for compensation or expenses can be considered. Neither PLUS, nor the Agent shall be in any way liable to the client if a service cannot be supplied by reason of industrial dispute, or other cause outside their control. There is no reduction in the course fee where a course includes a public holiday. 5 INSURANCE The Agent shall, at its own expense, obtain and maintain throughout the duration of the courses an insurance cover for public liability, event and personal injury liability to or the death of any person and any loss or destruction of or damage to property not attributable to any fault or neglect of the clients with an insurance company of repute. Copies of all such insurance policies and evidence that all premiums have been paid shall be presented on PLUS’ demand. 6 WARRANTY & LIABILITY PLUS, its staff and representatives will not be liable for any loss, damage, illness or injury to persons or property however caused, except where such liability is imposed by statute. Clients must have personal insurance against medical expenses, third parties, travel insurance, including inability to attend or continue a course. 6.1 STUDENT WELFARE AND GROUP LEADERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES PLUS only accepts closed groups accompanied by their group leader. Except for Intensive English bookings (UK), the Group Leader must be at least 25 years old and speak fluent English. The Group Leader is the ultimate person responsible for supervising his/her group constantly day and night and must comply with the student welfare, security and safety rules set by PLUS. Group leaders’ duties and responsibilities are well defined and encompassed in the Handbook. Agents/schools are required to hand it out to their selected staff members, draw their attention to the student Welfare paragraph and ultimately invite them to sign a statement of acceptance prior to their departure. 7 PAYMENTS The balance with final number of students is due 21 days before the arrival date. Payments must be credited to the PLUS bank account, without deduction or setoff and free from any taxes, levies or other charges or encumbrances. If the sums due are not accredited on the

date indicated, all agent’s bookings are subject to immediate release and the deposit paid will be forfeited to PLUS. If by the term indicated on relevant invoice (s) the Agent fails to pay for clients, staff booked over and above the places initially secured at the centre or for any extra services requested, PLUS is entitled to cancel or suspend any further service to the Agents’ clients at any or all the centres. 8 CANCELLATION FEES In case of cancellation, the deposit paid is forfeited to PLUS. For places cancelled the following penalties will be levied. If the booking is cancelled between: • 21 days before arrival, loss of deposit paid • 15 days before arrival, 70% • 7 days before arrival, 100% of the total package cost. 9 SCHOOL REGULATIONS PLUS uncompromisingly prohibits illicit drugs, violence, racism, classroom disruption and dishonesty. No drugs, tobacco products or alcohol are permitted at any centre, function or when on excursions. Clients are expected to abide by the College disciplinary regulations, and demonstrate reasonable standards of conduct within and outside the classroom. Failure to do this may result in expulsion from the course. In this event, no refunds become applicable. 10 VISA STUDENTS If , in spite of a PLUS sponsorship letter, the British Embassy or American Embassy does not grant a visa, PLUS shall reimburse the initial deposit of £ 120.00 for UK and $ 120.00 for USA upon receiving a copy of the formal Embassy document confirming such refusal. Cancellation charges still apply (please refer to par 8). 11 COMPLAINTS APPLICABLE TO UK Over the years PLUS has been able to fully respond to students’ requirements and to minimize cause for complaints. This does not necessarily mean, however, that something cannot go wrong. If a student is unhappy or dissatisfied with any part of the programme ie teaching, leisure activities, host family and so on, he/she should observe the following procedure: STEP 1 Discuss the problem with his/her leader who will report the problem to the Campus Manager, who should solve it within 36 working hours. STEP 2 If the problem persists, the student can call or ask his/her group leader to contact PLUS Head office (0207 7302223 ). Necessary steps will then be taken without delay. STEP 3 If the problem still cannot be solved, then the student may refer the complaint to: ABLS PO BOX 312, GREAT YARMOUTH NR30 9EP. The complaint can also be sent to British Council: Customer Services, Accreditation Unit Bridgewater House, 58 Whitworth Street, Manchester M1 6BB, UK. Or e-mailed to: accreditation.unit@britishcouncil.org The complaint must be written in English, specifying whether action has already been taken by PLUS, and signed. The student should also state whether he/she is happy for the complaint to be copied to PLUS. 12 FORCE MAJEURE If PLUS or the Agent is affected by Force Majeure it shall forthwith notify the other party of the nature and extent thereof. Neither party shall be deemed to be in breach of this Agreement, or otherwise be liable to the other, by reason of any delay in performance, or non performance, of any of its obligations. 13 PROPER LAW These Terms & Conditions are construed in accordance with the English Law. All disputes, controversies or claims shall be referred to and finally settled under the rules of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce of London by three arbitrators appointed in accordance with those Rules that are known and accepted by the Parties. It is hereby agreed that the Commercial Court of London shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any judicial proceedings howsoever related to the interpretation of these Terms & Conditions which may not be deferred to arbitration.
