The Ridgefield Playhouse In its current life, The Ridgefield Playhouse is designed to embrace its past and present life. Designed in 1938, the auditorium in “the old high school” is an ideal venue for many different cultural events ranging from the upcomming Gala featuring Natalie Cole in November and the anniversary of the re-opening of the theater featuring Jose Feliciano in December. This Cass Gilbert Jr.- designed theater became reality in December 2000 with an opening night performance showcasing Jose Faliciano and continued with a range of renues including Oscar-winning film nights such as Traffic and Chocolat. As the theater that twice had the priveledge of hearing legendary Arturo Toscanini during World War II, this season to come will see an entertaining, enriching program of movies and events: more themed film series to supplement our regular movie schedule, internationally acclaimed musicians, comedy, a wonderful collection of children’s performers, and even more community partners including The Ridgefield Symphony, The Ridgefield Opera Company, and the Aldrich Museum. The week of September 20 will kick off the unique after-school enrichment program taught by Emmy award winning musician Kevin Briody and Broadway and TV actor, writer, director Beau Gravitte.
