Who we are
The local annual strength event, Star City Strongman, is entering its 9th year in 2024. In partnership with Professional Strongman League (PSL) - an international competitive-level competition that has chosen Roanoke as a venue for world championships - they will host 3 competitions at Star City StrongFest on October 5 at Elmwood Park.
PSL has hosted pro-level competitions with athletedriven success and top-level sponsor support since 2021. Star City Strongman has grown from approximately 30 athletes in 2016 to over 90 athletes in 2022, twice that number in spectators and over 30 volunteers in the peak year.
For the past four years, the Partnership for Community Wellness has received the proceeds from Star City Strongman. With over two decades invested in identifying health risks, promoting healthy choices and connecting people to trusted wellness resources, they are hosting their 2nd Annual Star City StrongFest - a free festival for all ages - with Star City Strongman and the Professional Strongman League World Championships headlining the event.
As the main event of the day, Strongman will provide a fun-to-watch display of strength from a diverse field of amateur and professional athletes in three competitions.
Our Vision
Star City StrongFest is at Elmwood Park in the heart of downtown Roanoke, Va
This is a unique event presented to the community. In 2023, there were approximately 1,500 visitors to the park during StrongFest. This year, we’re planning for even more.
The park is accessible and ADA compliant. It can accommodate up to 4,000 guests. The event is promoted regionally by Professional Strongman League, Star City Strongman, Partnership for Community Wellness, local media partners, community wellness advocates and event supporters.
Along with creating an experience for our local community and sharing Strongman, we are excited for the opportunity to share the City with visitors from all over the world
