Streetbank Stories

Rose Croft Location: Peterborough

Rose started using Streetbank to take part in the reverse advent challenge, which asked individuals to give something away each day of December. She continued to use it because she loves finding something useful for free and loves being able to give something to someone who needs it, “whether it be a box of material, or some useful advice about vegan cooking”. Rose has received a number of things through Streetbank, including a number of DemiJohns for some homemade brewing. Rose has also given away many things such as winter coats she never wears, jewellery she’s forgotten she had and lots of craft items that had been gathering dust. She has also found it a very useful tool to promote various community groups she is part of. Through Streetbank, Rose has saved money for herself and others, met new people and even reconnected with an old school teacher. She has found de-cluttering and detaching from unnecessary stuff a healthy exercise that is made much easier when you know that you're saving things from landfill, as well as doing someone a favour. Rose says: “I think that Streetbank is an exciting way for people to reconnect to their local community because it allows us to shift our focus from just ourselves to others around us too. It promotes a localised gift economy over consumerism which is great for the environment, for community spirit and for each individual - I look forward to seeing what my community has to offer us all in the future”.
