Greetings from the Middle Ages
What tales might you tell if you were a castle from the 1300s? You would probably never run out of stories to share! You can hear some of these when visiting the well-preserved ruins of Kastleholm Castle. The castle enjoyed its golden age during the reign of Gustav I (Vasa) and his sons. This was the place where, for example, Erik XIV was imprisoned together with his wife Karin Månsdotter.
The Jan Karlsgården open-air museum, with its old buildings from all over Åland, is located behind the castle. Even more stories about the days of yore are waiting to be told among the creaking floors and old rocking chairs.
