My retirement date is approaching fast. What was supposed to be a six-month temporary consultant position grew into seven and a half years of dedication to this great Club. On August 9th, a new Manager will take over the leadership of the Club.

I would like to thank all of the members for their support, kindness, and friendship during my time serving the SPYC. It has truly been an honor to not just be a part of something great.... but to watch this Club flourish, beyond my expectations. I would also like to personally thank every Commodore, Flag Officer, Board Member, and Committee Chair. Your support, especially the last fourteen months under the unfortunate pandemic which affected the Club Members and the entire world, is greatly appreciated.

My undeterred passion has been my driving force to serve this Club and all its members. I am leaving the Club knowing that it is in a strong financial position, with a strong management team in place to continue the vision of the Club to a bright future. Included is my farewell letter to the Management Team and staff who have supported me throughout these many happy years.

Godspeed to you all and thank you for the memories!

To this world-class Club, this business is ripe with unlimited potential. To the rare and wonderful people who make it so, I am forever grateful. I have worked here for seven years and not a day has passed that I have not embraced every ounce of your potential as individuals and as a collective force to be reckoned with by anyone on the planet.

Most of you accept that change is inevitable in life, but it does not make it any less uncomfortable. So, please be kind to your new leader and to your fellow employees during the transition. Make no mistake, as rich and wonderful as the St. Petersburg Yacht Club may be, the business of running such can be one wild “bull-of-a-business” to ride and master. Admittedly, I hoped to have made a marked impression and leave you better than when I arrived; but that does not mean our business model is not a work in progress in the months and years ahead.

Please know, no matter how experienced, how intellectually gifted, or how business-savvy your new GM may be - he is also human. So, accept initial mistakes may be made, paths filled with pitfalls may be explored; but ultimately, mutually rewarding success is any leader’s end goal. It is undeniable that you are destined to maintain this precious gem to its rightful place of glory. May you continue to give your best to one and all every day; enjoy the journey and steadfastly believe. Several of you have told me my influence encouraged you to be a “better person.” A better compliment I have never known. In turn, you should know your loyal support during the best and most difficult times did the same for me. I leave you having more courage than I knew I had and more confidence that all things are possible.

I would like to thank my wife for her unrelentless patience, support, and understanding throughout my tenure at the Club of the time commitment required to run such a great organization.

However, like a good book that you cannot put down, the reality is that every good story must have an ending. Such is life. In closing, this is a chapter of my life I will cherish forever.
