Pupils must study an instrument or singing through private tuition and must reach a standard equivalent to grade 3 of the examinations boards, by the end of year 12. Through the three assessment objectives of listening, performing and composing, pupils will be assessed in skills and abilities, together with knowledge and understanding, as specified in the subject content.

Pupils need to be continually committed to improving their instrumental/vocal techniques.
