THIS HASN’T BEEN AN EASY PERIOD FOR ANYONE BUT ONCE AGAIN THIS GREAT CLUB CAME . TOGETHER TO . . PLUG THE . GAPS.

5 After another lay off with no Saturday game last week we are back at the home of football Greens Meadow. Today we welcome Felixstowe who haven’t had to travel far which must mean it’s another derby in step 4 football. It’s great to have a printed match day programme back and this makes sense financially for the local derby games. I know some of you love a hard copy. Sometimes the club has to go with the times when this was the cause of financial loss on a match day at times. As your all aware with have been hit with the dreaded Covid 19 virus within the 1st team. At the time of writing 4 players have been affected and 3 of the management team. This hasn’t been an easy period for anyone but once again this great club came together to plug the gaps. A special mention to young 17yr old Ryan Capon who stepped up in goal for Bradders. We also had Jack WhartonRhichardson in the 1st team squad for the first time. As I have said before there is a pathway and these lads will get minutes at the right time. Todays game sees us play Felixstowe, I believe it has been 3 years since they were promoted. This only seems five minutes ago since our last encounters Stuart Boardly Felixstowe manager was a great player and has assembled a very good squad with some familiar faces. I hope you make them welcome but only after the game!!.

The squad should all be fully fit and the time of writing this. I am totally aware in the final third we are not being ruthless enough. We are working on this with our current forwards now they are fit. With Josh being injured Buggy out with Covid Jack Ainsley has done a great job up there. Thank you to Craig Parker and Paul Walker for stepping up in difficult times. Thank you for your wonderful support. It is much appreciated by us all and please continue to make loads of noise. As always I am happy to speak to anyone after the game over a pint if you have any questions. This I feel is important to have transparency throughout the club. Stay safe and thank you again for your support. Muzzy

We are excited by the challenge ahead

STOWMARKET Town chairman Neil Sharp says he knows he won’t sleep much on Friday night. Sharp (pictured above) is counting down the days to the club’s first-ever Step 4 fixture – the culmination of seven years’ hard work at the club. The Old Gold & Blacks were awarded promotion from the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division under The FA’s restructuring earlier in the summer after two Covid-interrupted seasons. They will start life in the Pitching In Isthmian League on the opening day of the 2021-22 season on Saturday at home to Canvey Island, kick-off 3pm. “I won’t sleep much on Friday night,” admitted 60-year-old Sharp, who has been chairman of the club for around ten years. “I don’t often sleep well the night before a game, but I know I won’t this weekend, which will be a combination of everything that’s been going on. “Saturday will be a great day for the club, although we will have to wait and see how many spectators turn up to watch, but hopefully the sun will be shining and they will see a good game.” Sharp has been involved with the club for 40 years, although not continuously, starting out as a player in the days when Stowmarket’s home ground was at Cricket Meadow in the town. The club have come a long way since then, but especially since they were languishing in the lower half of Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League seven years ago.

8MATCH REPORT VS TILBURY // TUESDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2021 // ISTHMIAN

STOW TOWN 1 TILBURY 4 Match Report: Iain van der Ree Buoyed by their win on Saturday, an understrength Stowmarket side started the match confidently and dominated much of the early possession without creating too many chances. A cross from a well drilled Tilbury side broke the deadlock when it hit the hand of a defender and Lewis Smith put away a resultant penalty. Jack Ainsley immediately struck back for Stow from the penalty spot to bring the sides level at 1-1 at half time. The second half started to mirror much of the first with Stowmarket hitting the woodwork twice. Smith again put the visitors ahead through another penalty & the crowd of 260 at Greens Meadow knew it wasn’t going to be their night when a deflected shot from Roman Campbell increased Tilbury’s lead. Stow were unlucky not to be awarded a 2nd penalty of their own in a goalmouth scramble with the ball seemingly being handled on the line. Ola Ogunwamide’s 90th minute deflected goal completed a tough evening for the Suffolk side.

WELCOME LUKE BROWN

Stowmarket Town Football Club would like to welcome Luke Brown to Greens Meadow “Luke is a player I have liked for a while now. He has a good record at Hitchin and I believe with our luck with injuries and departures in the forward line this is exactly what is needed and will provide health competition. Luke has a great attitude and will be a fans favourite I’m sure”

HISTORY OF FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNTIED Felixstowe & Walton United Football Club aka ‘The Seasiders’ were formed in 2000 from two football clubs who were independent in their own right although they had merged briefly just prior to the Second World War to be called Felixstowe United (not to be confused with the Felixstowe United who played in The Suffolk & Ipswich League) The joining lasted until 1952 when the clubs went their separate ways. Formed in 1895, Walton United played at The Recreation ground in Recreation Lane, Walton while Felixstowe Town, formed five years earlier played at The Town Ground, Dellwood Avenue. The second amalgamation in 2000 looked a good marriage for the right reasons. Walton United had just won the Suffolk Senior Cup and were on the up but with nowhere to go as the Recreation ground at Walton could not accommodate Eastern Counties League standard facilities. Felixstowe Town had been renamed Felixstowe Port & Town due to their sponsorship by the Port, but when that was withdrawn in 1999/2000 it left the Town club struggling to recover and maintain Eastern Counties League football. It looked and proved to be a good decision by both clubs that they therefore merged with Dellwood Avenue becoming their home Venue. It was a struggle in the early years after the merger with relegation coming in 2002, but it offered the chance for the club to regroup and focus on the future with a growing youth set up and getting the basics right off the pitch and the club regained Premier

Tied by what could be done at their present home the club always found it difficult to compete with the top sides in the Premier Division with what was the unique task of raising and lowering of the floodlights before and after games and the restrictions placed on the club by the local authorities. The Seasiders remained positive throughout and now have the lights permanently erected during the football season which was the catalyst to develop the rest of the ground and have an excellent youth set up comprising over 20 boys & girls teams from Age 6 upwards. In July 2017 a new pitchside clubhouse complex opened to replace the old one which has transformed the club and by the end of the 2017/18 season, the Seasiders gained promotion to the Isthmian North Division at Step 4 for the first time in the clubs history. The Reserves were also promoted to the Step 6 Thurlow Nunn First Division. The clubs first season at Step 4 saw a mid-table finish achieved, with an average attendance of 400 the highest in the Isthmian North, and second highest in Suffolk behind Ipswich Town. A number of additional ground improvements were completed and the season ended with a trip to Portman Road in the Suffolk FA Premier Cup with over 1,000 Seasiders supporters seeing us finish runners up to Step 3 Leiston after a 3-2 defeat. The 2019/20 season proved to be a difficult one on and off the pitch, the resultant decision to null & void the campaign due to Covid-19 ensured the Seasiders will remain at Step 4 in 2020/21, whereas the Reserves took voluntary demotion to Step 7 and will compete in the Essex & Suffolk Border League. .

STOW TOWN RESERVES

Words from the Reserve Team manager Craig Brown “Last Saturday we won 3-2 Jacob Rasheedi with a hatrick we started the game slow going down 1-0 in the first minute of the game we lost our two strikers & goal keeper injured playing for the U18s Thursday Ryan capon Reon huckvale & top scorer jack Wharton-Rhichardson so was always going to be a tough ask but I’m proud of the lads getting the job done under the circumstances, but we responded by taking a 2-1 half time lead, 10 mins in to the Second Half we made it 3-1 Jacob completing his hatrick with a well taking finish, we then conceded late on to set up a Nervy last 10 minutes but we hold on for a deserved 3 points, we now look forward to away v cornard res on Saturday hopefully making it 5 wins on The spin but will be another tough test, I was happy with the 82 crowd thanks for your support Up the stow ”

IN THE

COMMUNITY In partnership with BBC Radio Suffolk, Stowmarket Town Football Club are taking part in Kit Out The Nation. Thank you for supporting our Kit out the Nation campaign. Our aim was to get kit and sports equipment to the schools and clubs where a young person can use it. Good condition equipment, that would otherwise go to landfill or simply remain in cupboards, could get an extended life and help a young person get active. We asked you to share everyday items of sports kit (clothing) and regular games equipment that a young person can use in an activity, such as balls, bats and rackets. The BBC says “We have had over 33,000 donated bits of kit with hundreds of companies and charities involved all working closely with local BBC radio stations across England, and BBC radio stations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland”
