Maintenance work costed at £250k programmed for two local schools
P
rimary schools in Stoke Gifford and Little Stoke are to benefit from a £2.6 million package of maintenance and improvement works that has recently been agreed by South Gloucestershire Council. St Michael’s Primary School is to receive investment of £150,000 for re-roofing while Little Stoke Primary School will see £100,000 spent on replacing high-level windowsills in the Key Stage 1 hall, and flat roof repairs. The latest tranche of funding comes as part of a record £78 million capital investment to build new and upgrade existing school buildings across the local authority area. A key aspect of the works, which range from reroofing and replacing windows to boiler works and rewiring, is to improve energy efficiency of school buildings, lowering running costs for schools whilst helping to deliver on the council’s climate emergency goals. Welcoming the announcement, Cllr Erica Williams, Cabinet member for education, skills and
employment, said: “Improving educational standards in South Gloucestershire is our top priority as local Conservatives and we want to make sure that our pupils have the best school facilities available that we are able to provide. I am delighted that we are in a position to continue our record investments into delivering new and improving existing school buildings and look forward to seeing this latest programme of works completed.” Cllrs Brian Allinson, Ernie Brown and Keith Cranney, who represent Stoke Gifford, said: “It is fantastic to see this much needed investment for St Michael’s and Little Stoke primary schools. As a council we have a duty to ensure our communities have fit-forpurpose facilities and we hope these improvements will have a positive impact on the learning of local children.” The recently announced programme of maintenance works will be carried out during the 2021/22 financial year.
