Parish Council Updates BMX track improvements

South Gloucestershire Council has funded the Parish Council £55,641 for the improvements to the BMX track. The facility is extremely popular with local residents ranging from all ages and all small wheel-based sports, scooters skateboards and BMX bikes. This is a very exciting and much needed project and one we very much look forward to completing. The current BMX track is popular with local residents, but the Parish Council have identified the need to improve the surface. Little Stoke Playing Fields is an impressive attraction bringing in hundreds of residents onto the site every day, and we feel the BMX improvements will further enhance the service we provide. Vandalism in parks and open spaces

We are currently experiencing an above average amount of malicious damage in our parks with repair costs running into thousands of pounds. Expensive sports equipment, picnic tables and benches have been destroyed. Fires were lit and matting in the children’s play area destroyed. Finally, broken glass was liberally spread in the grass and along the footpath. The damage appears to happen in the late evening just as darkness falls. Mead Park and the Trust Grounds off North Road are the worst affected locations. We will be making good the damage as we cannot let the mindless few win and spoil the enjoyment our parks give. Policing is a concern – we currently have two officers and with shifts this means often only one on duty, which is not sufficient to cover such a large area. Although our officers do excellent work, we need more cover which we are addressing at the highest level.
