About The Conference Organised by LCS International and the Westminster Think Tank, Public Policy Projects, in partnership with the Sunday Times, this conference is now established as a leading annual policy debate guiding the NHS and Social Services and the independent and voluntary sectors on the significant challenges and opportunities in health and social care services reform. The Conference will discuss: Spending cuts – What is the size of the public expenditure challenge? What will this mean for health and social care? How far might efficiency and productivity gains close the funding gap? Policy context – Integration of health and social care and the shift in service provision from the acute sector to “Our care services need in future to be more responsive to the rising demand for personal care and independence.” Gordon Brown, May 2008

“I think it would be wrong to scare people, that there are big changes coming, that there are cuts and closures, that is not the case with this Government. We have always looked after the NHS.”

the community and the home will gather pace. What will be the role of the empowered patient? Emerging opportunities – Deconstruction and disaggregation of existing care models, and the preeminence of Health Information technology are the essential mechanisms to support new care pathways. But how fast will the landscape change? Industry capabilities and market trends – What are the independent sector’s capabilities? How ready are they to embrace increasing innovation, new partnerships, and technology breakthroughs? Will they be able to respond to the Government’s priorities?
