St. Luke's is a secular (non-religious), private day school for grades 5-12 in New Canaan, CT. St. Luke's inspires students to go Above & Beyond what they ever thought possible.

2021-2022 Annual Report

Message from the Board Chair

The 2021-2022 school year was one of transition and celebration. It was a full year that solidified the strength and unity of our community and the future of our school.

The Board of Trustees’ appreciation for our faculty and staff only grew as we navigated a second school year in a global pandemic. Like last year, our one goal remained: doing what’s best for our students. The collective effort to deliver an exceptional education was so evident, and when masks became optional in late winter, the energy on campus soared.

In 2019, Mark Davis shared his plans to retire in June 2022. This gave the Head of School Search Committee two full years to find the best fit for St. Luke’s next Head of School. In October 2021, we joyfully announced the appointment of Dr. Mary Halpin Carter.

As we neared the close of Mark’s 20th year as our Head of School, we found many ways to celebrate him and ensure he felt the community’s love and gratitude:

• Mark threw out the first pitch at the last varsity baseball home game.

• A campus-wide “Mr. Davis Day” was kicked off by surprising Mark as he arrived for work, with the full community outside greeting him with thunderous applause.

• The June 10th celebration of Mark on the Hilltop was attended by hundreds of people, all there to thank Mark and Elisabeth and bid them farewell (see page 66 for more)

During this transition year, our community recognized the importance of financial stability. You collectively

and generously contributed almost $4 million in gifts and pledges to our school. Some highlights:

• Our Annual Fund set a new record, raising $1.8 million with 93% parent participation.

• For the 18th year in a row, our faculty and staff reached 100% Annual Fund participation. What a huge statement of confidence from the dedicated group that teaches our children each day.

• Recognizing the importance of gathering together, senior parents gave generously to establish the Class of 2022 Community Room in the Grey House (the building at the entrance to campus), bringing back to life a wonderful and underutilized part of campus (see pages 40-43 for more on Senior Gift)

• The Mark Davis Impact Fund raised $1.5 million for financial aid, enough to fully fund a student of need, in Mark’s name, every year in perpetuity.

Thank you for believing in St. Luke’s. Exiting the 2021-2022 school year from a position of strength, we are filled with excitement. Thanks to the excellence and continuity of our faculty and staff, the faith and support of our families and alumni, and our tremendous optimism about the Mary Halpin Carter era, the future of our great school is bright.

Shaping minds and souls makes a teacher's work both forwardlooking and sensitive. Parents place their children in our care - a sacred trust, and we must do our best to educate and support our charges. Isaac Asimov wrote that, "Knowledge is not only power; it is happiness, and being taught is the intellectual analog of being loved." Being teachers, we get to express our love for our students every day in the classroom. We share with them our learning and bring them with us in the exploration of man's past and present. Together, we walk down the road and peer carefully at what awaits us as a species, as a country, as individuals.

Supporting St. Luke's financially every year is just another way of saying that the future matters to me, as do the leaders we nurture ever so briefly on the Hilltop. Our community of learning strives to make our students ready to go forth to serve, to lead with courage and compassion, and to be healthy of mind and body. Who wouldn't give to support that?

Although I only spent my last two years of high school at St Luke’s, it was the best educational experience of my life. The teachers Dr. Kidd, Mr. Pearsall, Mr. Jacob, etc. were incredible motivators, whether through fear or favor. Dr. Kidd taught me how to write, a skill that was important for my career in advertising, and Mr. Pearsall and Mr. Jacob just had a way of drilling stuff into my brain with great finesse. What I see of the school today is so impressive and successful that I want it to continue to excel in developing its students into exemplary contributing adults.

Senior Gift

The Senior Gift is an annual St. Luke's tradition that provides families the opportunity to make a special gift in honor of their graduate. Each Senior Gift has three things in common: it meets a strategic need of the school; it represents the senior class in a meaningful way; and it provides an enduring reminder of the graduates' time on the Hilltop.

We are grateful to the Class of 2022 parents for contributing over $440,000 in gifts and pledges for The Class of 2022 Community Room. Despite living through a global pandemic for half of their high school experience, the welcoming and social spirit of this senior class never faded. They learned the importance of being together and of community, and this brand-new gathering space honors the group's warm spirit. Located in the Grey House, The Class of 2022 Community Room is being used for Homecoming and alumni events, parent gatherings, and other special events.

Historical Senior Gifts

Class of 2021 Welcome Center and Experience Fund

This Fund allows students who receive financial assistance to participate in grade- and class-level trips, special athletic events, performing arts opportunities, as well as global exchange trips. The Fund also helps families afford books, transportation fees, and other costs beyond tuition.

Class of 2020 Cardio Fitness Mezzanine

This reimagined wellness and fitness space is a beautiful setting for students to exercise on Peloton bikes, treadmills, ellipticals and rowing machines.

Class of 2019 Art Gallery

This gallery, adjacent to the Library, was named in honor of the Class of 2019. The gallery hosts student, faculty, and visiting artist shows and serves as a valuable resource for the entire Hilltop community.

Class of 2018 Field

This field space enables field hockey and softball to play on a standard-sized competition facility, with additional space for practice sessions for the soccer and lacrosse teams. The synthetic turf ensures all-weather access and consistent field conditions for student athletes.

Class of 2017 Library Reading Room

The Reading Room is located on the first floor of St. Luke's library, and features high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, making it a beautiful and inviting space for students to study, collaborate, and connect.

Class of 2016 Library Café

The “Stormy Nook” Café, reserved for Upper School students, provides “grab and go” dining options for breakfast and snacks. The bright space features a high-end self-service coffee bar and a modest full kitchen.

Class of 2015 Field

The families of the Class of 2015 enabled St. Luke's to install synthetic turf and realign our lower fields, ensuring consistent field conditions, all-weather access, and a field layout optimized for simultaneous multi-sports practices, all while decreasing maintenance costs.

Class of 2014 Front Portico

The Class of 2014 brought back the tradition of house games by revitalizing the Founder's Cup. They were inspired by the inscription in the School crest: “look to the past, look to the present, look to the future”. Similarly, for their class gift, this class chose to rebuild and rename the front portico, as a tribute to the past, present, and future.

Class of 2013 Student Life Endowed Fund

Named in honor of the Class of 2013, this fund was established to support activities related to student life and the promotion of school community and school spirit.

Class of 2012 Speaker Series

Corresponding with the CFL opening, the Class of 2012 endowed a speaker series, starting with The Lunch and Lead Series, that would bring in outside speakers and expand the boundaries of the campus.

Class of 2021 Experience Fund

Duncan Edwards Waterside School Scholarship Fund

Fund Value: $174,538

Established in 2013 to provide scholarship awards to outstanding students coming from the Waterside School in Stamford, CT.

E.E. Ford Foundation Fund for Minority Scholarships

Fund Value: $184,218

Established in 1997 to provide need-based scholarships for minority students, grades 9-12.

Mark Davis Impact Fund

Fund Value: $1,048,673

Established in 2022 in honor of retiring Head of School Mark Davis, this fund for financial aid is a tribute to Mark Davis' dual passions for student access to education and institutional sustainability.

McIntire Family College Opportunity Fund

Fund Value: $331,815

Established in 2012 in honor of Gavin McIntire '08, this endowment provides financial aid for juniors and seniors, to address college search-related expenses, so that they may discover and improve their chances of attending schools that will provide rewarding individual college experiences.

The Orlich Family "360" Endowed Fund

Fund Value: $160,694

The Orlich Family "360" Endowed Fund was established in 2019 to help fund non-tuition essentials so that students on financial aid will have access to the full St. Luke's experience, both in and out of the classroom.

George E. Stevens Horizons Prize Endowment

Fund Value: $1,752,303

Established in 2010 to provide full scholarship support for a Horizons student for up to four years of high school. The prize recognizes students who love learning, demonstrate good character, pursue excellence, and embrace community.

Richard Whitcomb Endowed Scholarship Fund

Fund Value: $6,186,246

Established in 2003, in honor of Headmaster Emeritus Dick Whitcomb, the Whitcomb Scholarship provides needbased scholarships for students based on their ability to make a major contribution to the School and who personify Dick Whitcomb's passion for academic curiosity, strength of character and co-curricular involvement.

Chadwick Family Faculty Development Endowed Fund

Fund Value: $83,898

Established in 2020, the Chadwick Family Faculty Development Fund supports the pursuit of projects that advance teaching and learning at SLS while enabling faculty to pursue areas of professional interest that are fulfilling to them and help them grow as professionals. Projects are beyond the scope of what is currently funded by the school's professional development budget.

China Care Endowed Chair for Chinese Language Education

Fund Value: $923,460

Established in 2006 to fund a Chinese language instructor who is also the coordinator of the St. Luke's School China Care Club, a student organization which helps further the mission of China Care.

Tracy B. Duncan Innovation Award

Fund Value: $109,813

The Tracy B. Duncan Innovation Award quasi-endowment provides awards to innovative members of the St. Luke's community whose work has made a significant impact on the student experience and in the development of a culture of innovation at St. Luke's School.

Faculty Development Endowment

Established in 2016 as part of the Final Phase of the Momentum Campaign, the Faculty Development Endowment supports well-established faculty members in their desire to take on high-level, long-term professional development projects that are ambitious in scope and ultimately advance teaching and learning at St. Luke's School.

Goldstone Faculty Enrichment “Dream Grant” Endowed Fund

Established in 2011, this fund provides grants to teachers and administrators to pursue personally rewarding experiences, be it travel, summer study, or the opportunity to pursue a passion.

Head of School Discretionary Endowment Fund

Established in 2005 to fund projects determined by the Head of School.

The Dr. Kidd Excellence in Teaching Award and Endowment for Faculty

Fund Value: $957,878

The Dr. Kidd Excellence in Teaching Award is given to a full-time teacher who exemplifies the ideals of SLS through excellence in the classroom, service to the total School community, and dedication to the well-being and growth of St. Luke's students.

Kontulis Family Faculty Chair

Fund Value: $1,173,787

An endowed chair is the highest honor St. Luke's can bestow on a faculty member. Established by the Kontulis Family in 2016, this rotating endowed chair helps St. Luke's recognize, retain and inspire top teaching talent. Chairholders serve a two-year appointment and receive a stipend to be used to further a project of their choice.

Edward Scovner Excellence in Middle School Teaching Award Fund

Fund Value: $35,813

Established in 2013 by the Royce Family to support an award to a middle school teacher who has most inspired students to fulfill their individual potential through her/his commitment, deep affection for students, and most importantly, distinctive style and approach to teaching.

The Tyler Family Endowed Chair for Theater Arts

Fund Value: $2,055,461

An Endowed Chair is the highest honor St. Luke's can bestow on a faculty member. Established in 2019 by the Tyler Family, The Tyler Family Endowed Chair for Theater Arts supports the salary of the director of the theater arts program and/or the theater arts program.

Civil Discourse Endowed Fund

Fund Value: $222,990

Established in 2020 through a gift from Jennifer and Graham Foster, the Civil Discourse Endowed Fund permanently established The Civil Discourse Speaker Series, which allows St. Luke's students and community to be exposed to the highest quality lessons in civil discourse. The income from this fund supports the costs associated with bringing together two parties or sets of experts in their respective fields to publicly discuss an issue that has two clearly articulated sides.

Class of 2012 Center for Leadership Speaker Series Endowed Fund

Fund Value: $335,146

Established as a legacy gift by the families of the Class of 2012, this endowment helps to underwrite the Center for Leadership's speaker series program and support the Center for Leadership's mission to develop every SLS student's unique ability to lead and make a difference.

Class of 2013 Student Life Endowed Fund

Established as a legacy gift by the families of the Class of 2013 to support activities related to student life and the promotion of school community and school spirit.

S. Philip Klein Emerging Leader Award Endowed Fund

Established in 2012 this award is presented annually to a 9th or 10th grader who possesses good character, has strong leadership potential, and who wants to take on the personal challenge of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound program.

Parsons Family Women & Leadership Endowment Fund

Established in 2013 to support initiatives related to women and leadership, including but not limited to program/ conference support, individual awards, and/or scholarships for female students with leadership potential.

Richard J. Pedrick Endowed Memorial Fund

Fund Value: $238,486

Established in 1995 in memory of past parent and former Trustee, Dick Pedrick, "to perpetuate, as a living memory, all that Dick Pedrick stood for." The Richard J. Pedrick award is awarded annually to a graduating senior who exemplifies leadership, dedication, intelligence, athletic participation, good sportsmanship, and love for his/her fellow human beings.

Social Justice Design Based Learning Fund

Fund Value: $115,085

Social justice-focused design-based learning opportunities are an essential element of a St. Luke's education. Established in 2020, income from the Social Justice Design-Based Learning Fund is used to meet the costs associated with existing programs, such as J-Term and Community Service programs, or to launch new project-based learning initiatives with a social justice or community service focus.

Student Highlights

St. Luke's Debate Sends 8 To Nationals, Achieves National Charter Status

In March of 2022, the St. Luke's Varsity Debate Team participated in the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) District Tournament. After competing against 17 other schools, 8 St. Luke's students were granted bids to compete in the 2022 National Speech & Debate Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky: Charlie Adams '24, Laurel Aronian '25, Chris Briggs '24, Samantha Gerber '25, Dash Gilrain-Lennon '25, Will Moskowitz '25, Sally Picon '24, and Jack Sullivan '23. St. Luke's was the only team in Connecticut with students qualifying for nationals.

In May, St. Luke's Debate was awarded NSDA's highest honor: National Charter status. Nationwide, only 22 schools were recognized with this prestigious status in 2021-22.

According to a statement from the Association, “These schools have earned degrees in our Honor Society for outstanding participation in speech and debate activities. Degrees are earned by students and coaches through speech and debate competitions, community service, and leadership activities. Each degree represents hours of learning, practice, and improvement from the team.”

St. Luke's Student Artists Selected for Museum Exhibition

In February of 2022, three St. Luke's art students had their work displayed in the Katonah Museum of Art's Young Artists 2022 Exhibition. Young Artists, now in its 39th year, features the work of local high school artists who take part in all aspects of its curation, installation, and marketing efforts to produce this perennially favorite exhibition. The works range in scale, concept, media, and process, reflecting the diversity of expression in the region's young artists.

St. Luke's Theater Takes Home Two Halo Awards

In May of 2022, St. Luke's families gathered at the Palace Theater in Waterbury for the 19th Annual Halo Awards. Presented by regional theater company The Seven Angels Theater Company, the Halo Awards honor every aspect of high school theater: actors, singers, stagehands, directors, dancers, designers, and more. This year more than 80 Connecticut high schools were celebrated at the ceremony.

St. Luke's School received nominations for Ryan DeFilippo '22 (Best Lighting Design), Sam Bauer '23 and Hannah Johnson '24 (Dynamic Duo in a Play), Myles Sead '23 (Best Male Standout Performance in an Ensemble Production), and Hannah Johnson '24 (Best Female Standout Performance in an Ensemble Production). The cast and crew of Eureka Day—, Connor Mannix '24, Dakota DeFrancesco '23,

Hannah Johnson '24, Myles Sead '23, Ryan DeFilippo '22, and Sam Bauer '23 —received nominations for Best Contemporary Play and the Fearless Award.

Johnson and Bauer proudly came away with The Dynamic Duo Award, given to performers who exemplify strong chemistry and partnership on stage. The cast and crew of Eureka Day took home the Fearless Award, recognizing theater programs willing to take risks by producing challenging work or tackling complex issues. It was an extraordinary win for St. Luke's Theater to be recognized as a program that provokes thought, pushes artistic boundaries, and inspires.

St. Luke's Volleyball Crowned New England Champions

The St. Luke's varsity volleyball team won its first ever New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class C Championship in November of 2021. St. Luke's won every set in the NEPSAC tournament, defeating Greens Farms Academy 3-0 in the quarterfinal, Cushing Academy 3-0 in the semifinal, and #4 seed Winchenden 3-0 in the championship game in Carey Gymnasium.

St. Luke's finished the season with an overall record of 16-4, and head Coach Garrett Minyard was overjoyed with the team's accomplishments: “It didn't take 20 matches to win this championship. It took four years. This season's success is the culmination of all the hard work and effort our past teams and staff have put into this program. The athletes of this team were exactly the right group to take this huge step forward for SLS volleyball. I am extremely proud to be their coach. Thanks to these athletes, our program entered a new era. Winning a championship is no longer just an idea, it's an expectation.”

St. Luke’s Mascot Stormy Makes Its Debut

St. Luke’s new mascot, Stormy, made a debut appearance at the spring pep rally in April 2022, in front of a packed Carey Gymnasium.

Stormy’s energy, dancing, and school spirit is a welcome addition to the St. Luke’s athletic program. The new mascot was made possible thanks to St. Luke’s Stormchasers Leslie Balkind and Aimee Mueller, who worked tirelessly to get Stormy to the Hilltop. Look for Stormy at future sporting events!

Celebrating the 2022 Goldstone Faculty Enrichment Fund “Dream Grant”

Each year, faculty members are invited to apply for the “Dream Grant”, made possible by the Goldstone Family Enrichment “Dream Grant” Endowed Fund. This monetary award provides faculty the opportunity to pursue a personal project or journey that will enrich their lives.

Nearly 30 years ago, Janet married the love of her life and honeymooned in the beautiful country of Ireland. Over the years, they dreamed of returning to County Cork, where their love story began. Thanks to the Dream Grant, Janet and her husband re-lived their love story with a trip to Ireland, in belated celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary. There, they enjoyed the sites of Dublin, sang karaoke, danced to country-western music, and drank Guinness on draught.

Zach has always loved aquarium fish. From a 5-gallon tank in his childhood home to 50-, 55-, and 75-gallon aquariums in his first apartment (with red-bellied piranhas and African cichlid), Zach’s fish were his pride and joy and helped him connect with others interested in aquariums. A previous move required Zach to give up his fish, but he dreamed of rebuilding his tanks. Now that Connecticut is his permanent home, Zach used the Dream Grant to have a 125-gallon aquarium professionally installed in his home, complete with new African cichlids.

Celebrating Retiring Head of School with “Mr. Davis Day”

In May of 2022, the St. Luke’s Parents’ Association surprised Mark Davis with “Mr. Davis Day”. A very surprised Mark was met with cheers and greetings all the way from his home to the school entrance as students, faculty, and staff lined up amid signs and banners placed by volunteers, while holding fans with Mark’s face on them. He was met at the entrance of the school by PA presidents Amy DiTeodoro and Liz DeFilippo '93, and presented with traditional senior day gifts: a presentation plaque (sports), white roses (theater), and his very own cardboard cutout.

The Farewell Celebration: A Tribute to Mark Davis

In June, more than 400 St. Luke’s community members gathered for a farewell celebration honoring Mark’s 20 years on the Hilltop. Guests gathered on the Be Kind Plaza for drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and then moved to the Seldin Performing Arts Center for Roasts, Toasts, and Special Musical Performance, emceed by Director of Development, Jon Jodka.

After hearing from featured speakers and watching tribute videos submitted by past and present community members,

a special musical performance was given by the Mark Davis Tribute Band, which included current and former faculty alongside Mark's brother, Josh Rosen. At the conclusion of the night, Mark and his wife Elisabeth were invited to the stage where faculty, staff, students, and alumni encircled them and sang The Road Home, a traditional farewell song sung to St. Luke’s graduates during Commencement.

The entire evening was made possible thanks to event co-chairs Kim Jodka and Karen Stamoulis ’89, the Farewell Celebration Parent Committee: Joyce Andersen, Michelle Diliberto, Diana Doré, Karen Newman, Suzanne Sherter, Jill Stute, and Alicia Wyckoff, and the tech and production team: Will Chuhta '20, Chris Briggs '24, Jack Laibe '21, Connor Rosow '20, Jack Silverman '23, Brian Douglas '21, and Middle School English Teachers Erika Shevchek and Kirsten Tobler.

Honoring Mark’s Legacy: Mark’s 20 years on the Hilltop were further recognized during the farewell celebration, as Board Chair Jennifer Foster announced two special tributes: the Mark Davis Seminar Room and the Mark Davis Impact Fund for financial aid. Led by the Board of Trustees, the Mark Davis Impact Fund was established in honor of Mark's dual passions for student access to education and institutional sustainability. During the 2021-22 school year, the St. Luke’s community contributed an incredible $1.5 million in support of this fund, which will fully support one student’s tuition in perpetuity.

Homecoming 2021 was held on a sunny October day. Alumni, current students, parents, parents of alumni, trustees, faculty, staff, and friends all came together to celebrate St. Luke's.

Three members of the Class of 1971 returned to the Hilltop to attend their 50th Reunion Brunch: Peter Gelissen '71, Gregory Perry '71, and Steven Wershaw '71 Former Assistant Head of School Guy Bailey, who taught math and geography to members of the Class of 1971 was in attendance, as well as Head of School Mark Davis, Director of Development Jon Jodka, Associate Director of Individual Giving Jenn Mason, and Director of Alumni Relations Stefanie Veneruso.

Milestone Reunions were also held for the class of 1996, 2016, and 2011.

At the Homecoming memorial service, held biennially, Mark Davis announced the renaming of the Athletic Hall of Fame in honor of Headmaster Emeritus Dick Whitcomb. The Richard M. Whitcomb Athletic Hall of Fame is a tribute to Mr. Whitcomb, his passion for athletics, and his innumerable contributions to the St. Luke's community.

Alumni Gatherings in Boston and New York

For the first time in two years, St. Luke’s hosted receptions for alumni in the greater Boston and New York areas. Trustee Myles Gaines '13 welcomed alumni to the reception in Boston, and Head of School Mark Davis attended both events to have the chance to speak to alumni prior to his retirement.

Alumni Artistic Achievement Award Ceremony

The 2022 Alumni Artistic Achievement Award went to Ben Klein '12. This award is given in recognition of an individual's contributions to, and professional achievements in, their chosen artistic field. At the ceremony, Klein was introduced by his classmate, friend, and fellow St. Luke's Jewish Affinity Group co-founder Dan Kagan '12.

Klein is a director and producer, who earned his bachelor’s degree in film & television from NYU. His film The Exiles debuted at Sundance Film Festival in January 2022 and won the Grand Jury prize for U.S. documentary. "The film that I’m being honored for here today, The Exiles," Klein said, "is a direct byproduct of [my] experiences studying with Mr. Flachsbart, Mr. Sargent, and the larger SLS community…the relationships I made here taught me that teachers were not just authority figures who handed out grades, but could be close friends, confidants, and mentors who enriched your life and deepened your passions. The bonds I made here changed the way that I thought, felt, and experienced the world. They made me a keen student, and one who wished to embrace our school’s motto: Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve."

Class Notes

Keith Davis '56 said goodbye to his beloved wife of 66 years 2 years ago, but since then, he has been traveling around the country playing in pickleball tournaments. He hopes to defend his gold medal in the United States Open Pickleball Championships in April 2023 (hosted in Naples Florida), and will be playing in the National Senior Games in Pittsburgh in July 2023. David Tunick '61 completed an 8 week solo trip across the Atlantic Ocean, sailing from A Coruña, Spain to Stamford, Connecticut on his sailboat Night Watch. Despite an array of equipment failure that forced him to make stops in two ports along the way for repairs, he made it safely to his home port on Long Island Sound. He completed a similar trip two decades ago, sailing from England to Connecticut.

Leslie Carney Johnston '75 was only at St. Luke’s for 2 years but she describes that time as “the best 2 years of my school career”. After graduating, Leslie was a pediatric nurse for 43 years and retired in January of 2022. She has been married for almost 40 years and has 3 children and 3 grandchildren. She lives in York, Pennsylvania and enjoys horseback riding, yoga, and being involved with her church. She recently reconnected with fellow alumni, George Schimenti '75 and Judi Blumenthal '75 on Facebook.

After over 30 years as an attorney in the Federal Defenders Office in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, (the last 13 as the Chief of the office), Leigh M. Skipper '79 entered the challenging and exciting big law environment at the Duane Morris Law firm. His practice is in the Trial Group White Collar Section.

Andy Whitcomb '83 enters her 25th season as the head field hockey coach at Mount Holyoke College during the 2022-23 academic year. During her time as head coach, she has led the Lyons to numerous championships, maintaining an overall record of 255-174-1. Andy is also a senior lecturer in the College's Department of Physical Education.

In late May of 2022, TaShun BowdenLewis '90 was appointed Connecticut’s sixth Chief Public Defender by the Public Defender Services Commission. She is the first person of color to hold the position in the state. Prior to this role, TaShun served as a public defender in New Haven’s Superior Court, and then worked for the Waterbury Judicial District for 15 years.

Pound Ridge Veterinary Center, co-owned by Hillary Schilke '96, was voted “Best Veterinary Center of Westchester 2022” by Westchester Magazine.

Greg Guidotti '88 was recently interviewed on the Today Show with Al Roker, where he gave a behind the scenes look at how candy corn is made. Greg graduated from St. Luke’s and started a career in marketing and management. For the past 4 years, he’s been the Chief Marketing Officer at the Ferrara Candy Company, where he’s led an incredible candy portfolio–about 30 iconic and beloved candy brands like Nerds, SweeTARTS, Brach’s, Trolli and Laffy Taffy.

Dj Wolff '03 and his wife Kristin welcomed their second son, Fynn Cooper Wolff, on April 22, 2022. He has already started sporting some SLS swag and he and his older brother Beckett (3) are fast becoming best friends. The family’s moderately controlled chaos is based in Boston where Kristin works as the head of market access at bluebird bio and Dj as a partner at Crowell & Moring.

Sarah Mitnick '04 graduated in May 2022 from Boston University Questrom School of Business with her Masters in Business Administration with a focus on Leadership and Organizational Transformation. While participating in the Professional Evening MBA program, she continued to work fulltime at Fenway Health in Boston, where she helps lead the Division of Education and Training. She hopes to use her education and professional experience to continue to make an impact in workforce culture, employee experience and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Laura Howells '16 joined Upper School History Teacher Hunter Martin’s Advanced European History class in the spring of 2022, to talk about her experience as a Fulbright Scholar in Estonia, and share her perspective on the situation in Ukraine. Laura studied comparative politics and Russian in college, and is currently at Princeton University working on her Ph.D. in political science.

Omar Fortt '17 signed with the CFL’s BC Lions as a linebacker, coming from a successful career at the University of Connecticut.

Juice, the six-piece band out of Brooklyn, NY featuring Kamau Burton '13, recently went on the road for The Fall Tour 2022. They will be touring again in 2023 with The Dip.

Walter Whyte '17 was named to College Insider’s Lou Henson Player of the Year Watch List. This award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in division I college basketball.

In the spring of 2022, Dom DeMarco '18 was presented with the Frederick Emmons Terman Engineering Scholastic Award for distinguished academic performance at Stanford University. This prestigious award is presented to the top 5% of the senior engineering class. Dom invited St. Luke’s World Language Department Chair Jon Shee to join him in California for this special recognition. There, Shee literally sang the praises of DeMarco by singing his own lyrics to "Le temps des cathédrales" from DeMarco’s favorite musical, "NotreDame de Paris."

After Georgia Nelson '17 graduated from Bryn Mawr in May 2021, she headed to Taiwan for the Fulbright US Student Program. STEM is her passion and she began pursuing a PhD in environmental engineering at Rice University in 2022.

In the summer of 2022, Elizabeth Laub '18 visited Spain and walked the Camino de Santiago.

Jack Thies '18 recently graduated Cum Laude from the University of Richmond where he majored in Business Administration with concentrations in International Business and Marketing with a minor in French. He is now working for Basis Technologies, a global provider of workflow automation, intelligence, and programmatic trading software as a Digital Media Associate and lives in the Washington D.C. area!

After Tamia Fulton '19 completes her undergraduate degree at Brandeis University, she will join the 2023 Teach for America corps in New York, and teach for two years while pursuing her Master’s degree in Education.

The Summer Theatre of New Canaan featured two familiar faces in July of 2022–Cam Tyler '21 and Henry Jodka '20, who played the Cowardly Lion and The Wizard of Oz. The two were cheered on by fellow alumni Connor Rosow '20, Max Gifford '20, Nick DiCorpo '20, Will Chuhta '20

Tyleigh Zammit '19 is currently pursuing a degree from the University of Richmond, with a major in Rhetoric and Communications and a minor in Entrepreneurship. Upon graduation in May 2023, she will be moving to New York City to start her career as a buyer for Bloomingdale’s.

Abigail O’Meara '20 was awarded a summer undergraduate research fellowship in a marine ecology lab at Smith College this past summer. This semester she worked in a lab at Smith and for the EPA, focusing on climate and energy policy, while also working in a marine climate lab at UMass Amherst. Abbey contributed to her field hockey teams’ successes as a starter. The Pioneers advanced to the semifinals in the

Lea Panagiotidis '20 received All-CAA Third Team honors alongside one of her University of Delaware soccer teammates.

Koy Price '21 was recognized as Second Team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference, along with 3 of his Bowdoin College teammates. Koy was second in the league with nine pass breakups and two sacks.
