MUSIC MINISTRY The fall season has just arrived and that means that many church ministries are resuming. The music ministry has several music ensembles and service teams that are a great place to serve. Here is a brief description of each: •Adult Choir- sings weekly during worship/ need to be able to carry a tune/ rehearse Wednesdays •Orchestra- plays monthly during worship/ need to read music & have instrument/ rehearse Wednesdays •Bellchoir- plays about 3 times a semester/ need to read music/ rehearse Monday evenings •Praise Band- plays weekly during 10:45 service/ sing or play an instrument/ rehearse Saturday mornings •Sound Crew- run the soundboard once a month/ we will train you •Media Crew- run the slides during worship once a month/ we will train you •Librarian- assist with organizing music and documents in the music ministry/ flexible schedule Don’t miss the opportunity to use a gift that God has given you. God has equipped every believer with some gift, and it blesses God and the church when these gifts are used. If you are not sure what your gifts are, speak with a pastor or church leader. But, sometimes we hear directly from those we encounter daily. For example, if people hear you sing and enjoy your voice, that would be a sign that you should consider investing your voice in choir. If people enjoy the way you play an instrument, perhaps the orchestra is for you. The main point is, God gave us abilities for a reason. If you have “mothballed” your talent, consider dusting if off and investing it in one of the areas above, or in other areas of the church. Don’t miss out on what God has in store for you through exercising your gift in church. Now, for a quick report on Summer Music Camp. There were over sixty music campers, around twenty volunteers and an eighteen piece orchestra that accompanied the show. We performed the musical “Bible Boot Camp,” a show that we offered in 2013 and brought back with a new ending. The musical was about the purpose and importance of scripture in the life of a believer. In the last scene, the main characters went through an obstacle course that demonstrated how obstacles can be removed to enable regular Bible study. In case you missed the performance, it was streamed live on Facebook and is still available for viewing! The entire week went smoothly and the performance was wonderful. People ranging from youth to older adult helped to prepare the campers for success. What a blessing they gave to the campers! Our 10th annual Block Party will be on Wednesday, August 30th, from 5:30 until 7:00. Each year, our block party is a witness to our neighbors that they are welcome at St. Luke’s. Let’s prepare our hearts and minds for this event and be intentional to welcome people by engaging in warm conversation. The temptation is to huddle up in our normal groups. Let’s all step out in faith and help our church grow. As usual, the music ministry will invite children from Summer Music Camp to perform several songs from the musical. This will bring families from our neighborhood and from all around Lubbock. Contact the church office about how you can help serve in the Block Party.
