Waste reduction While many of the City of St. Louis Park's programs focus on recycling and organics, we know that the best way to reduce our impact on our planet is by preventing and reducing waste in the first place. Reuse is a great way to keep existing items out of the trash, while also reducing the demand for new products. Visit www.stlouispark.org/reuse to learn more about food waste prevention, reuse directories, events - including swaps, and more.
Food waste prevention
While recycling and composting are important, waste prevention has the largest environmental benefit. Learning how to properly store food helps eliminate food waste, which reduces how much you throw out and saves money.
Swaps
The city hosts swap events to encourage and support reuse. These events are open to everyone, including non-residents, and have included swaps for clothing, gardening supplies, books, movies, CDs and more.
Fix-it clinics
Hennepin County helps residents fix their broken stuff and learn valuable repair skills. Extending the life of usable items reduces environmental impacts and avoids waste. Visit www.hennepin.us/fixitclinic to learn how to participate.
