my true introduction into the SJP hockey tradition, something I was unaware of as an incoming freshman – great to hear he moved to the Granite State! … Paul Gilmartin: hanging up the banking career to help support youth hockey on the North Shore – inspiring story and career change … I also had the pleasure of seeing several teachers and role models from our days at SJP: the layperson formerly known as Sister Anne, Mr. Mike Walor, Mr. Brian Flatley dropping the hammer still, and of course my freshman Spanish teacher, Brother Keefe. Thank you all for taking the time to catch up and to come back to the reunion. And thank you to the organization team who pulled it together. Campus looks fantastic, and the student body keeps pushing ahead (I’m on some email updates about happenings on campus). Count me in for all future reunions, and feel free to drop me a line if you’re ever in NYC.”

Theo Nicolakis ’89 is the chief information officer for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and serves on several boards and commissions for the Archdiocese. He has had the unique privilege of overseeing the digital communications initiative to welcome Pope Benedict XVI to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Turkey and for the US visit of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, which included official visits with President Obama, Vice President Biden, and Secretary of State Clinton. He and his wife, Clio, have two children and reside in Connecticut. On October 16, 2011, Theo was made an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. An Archon is the highest lay honor in the Orthodox Christian Church for outstanding service to the Church. It is, in fact, the longest standing honor in Christendom that can be conferred upon a layperson and is a distinction accorded to relatively few people. Only about 800 laymen in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America have been granted this honor. To become an Archon, a candidate is nominated to the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate by the Archbishop of America. If confirmed, the Holy Synod bestows an offikion or office to the Archon-elect. The office granted to each Archon stems from the Byzantine period with most of the titles dating 1,000 years or more. With this honor comes considerable responsibility. Each Archon recognizes the gravity of his office and dedicates his life to advance the mission and ministries of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. An Archon is also concerned with the human race’s inalienable rights wherever and whenever they are violated and the well-being and general welfare of the Christian Church.
