2012 COACHES (CONT.) MIKE WARD
Varsity Assistant Line Coach Seasons Coaching at St. John’s: 1 High School: St. John’s (DC) College: Akron Coach Ward joins the varsity staff as an assistant line coach. He started every game (48 total) for all four years at the University of Akron as both a guard and a center. He was named team captain his senior year and then went on to play for both the Orlando Predators and the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League. A two-time first-team all-conference lineman at St. John’s, Coach Ward received the Mush Dubofsky Award as a senior, was named the Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year for D.C., and was named team captain. A two-way player, he achieved the remarkable feat of leading the team in tackles from his defensive line position. As a student at St. John’s, he was elected Vice President of the student body and set the bar for all future anchormen as one of the best personalities of all-time on the SJC Daily News show. RASHAD RODGERS
Varsity Assistant Line Coach Seasons Coaching at St. John’s: 4 High School: St. John’s (DC) College: Virginia Union Coach Rodgers moves up to the varsity staff after serving as a freshman coach for three season. In his two most recent seasons at St. John’s, he was the freshman head coach, during which time the freshmen only lost one game each season. Coach Rodgers came to St. John’s after being the Head Coach at Friendship Junior Academy in Washington, D.C. Previous to that, he was a graduate assistant at Virginia Union, where he had starred as a football player. In fact, during his senior season, he helped the Panthers win the conference championship. He was also recognized with first-team all-conference honors at Virginia Union and was selected to play in the College Football National All-Star Game in Louisville, Ky. At St. John’s, he was a starter on both the offensive line and the defensive line. Coach Rodgers is currently an educator in the D.C. public school system and lives in Washington with his wife Maureen.
