Class 3 enjoyed Phil Earle’s story so much they wrote their own versions of the ending.

‘’Hey Elsie, today is the day we’re going to Wembley stadium so your team can play,’’ said dad.

“I am so excited. I will go and get my kit on,’’ replied Elsie.

‘’Ok go quickly before the match starts.’’

‘’Ok I will.’’

‘’Elsie are you ready the match starts in five minutes?’’ dad asked.

‘’Yes, dad.’’

“We need to set off right now. We can’t miss kick off and we certainly can’t miss your match at half time. The greatest match of all!”

When we arrived at Wembley Stadium I could hear loud, amazing chanting as the match was starting. They were cooking some amazing food. We got some food – it was a special day after all - and then we went to our seats. Then the match started. 10 minutes into the match, England were up by one and the match ended at 3-2 to England.

When the match ended, they called our team on. The bad thing is it’s an 11-a-side pitch and we had one sub and the opposition had 4 subs which gave them a lot of an advantage but, just like that, the match kicked off. I was running as fast as I could to get the ball. I was like the speed of light. Then when I got the ball, I chipped it up into the top corner with an absolute SCREAMER! 1-0 to the Saints and it was their ball again.

2

The whistle went for kick off and they pinged the ball over the top, took a touch and ran and ran. They shot and in it went, 1-1. It was a corner. A foul and then a penalty and it was me to take it. I set up for it and, yes, another SCREAMER at the 89th minute. The whistle went and it was full time. The Saints sang, “Champion-ay, champion-ay, olay, olay, olay. Come on the Saints!”

We got to lift the trophy that day. It felt like winning the France v England World Cup. What a day!

“Hey, should we go to the park?” asked dad.

“Yes, dad. Let me get my footie,” said Elsie. “Hurry up before it rains,” replied dad.

“Ok dad,” said Elsie .

“Are we going to Wembley Stadium?” wondered Elsie. “Yes, if you hurry you and Pickles can play out,” said dad.

When we came to Wembley, we could hear people screaming and shouting ‘The Saints’. However, there was delicious popcorn and chips for us to smell and taste. We were excited for this. It felt like everyone one liked me and Elsie, plus dad was happy. Elsie scored 3 goals and I scored 2 goals.

We won the half time match! Everyone was shocked and they chanted for us when we won. What a brilliant day!

3

“Hey Elsie. Do you want to play football? We could use your cones to dribble,” explained Dad cheerfully.

“Well, can Pickles come too?” asked Elsie.

“Of course, he can come,” added dad.

“Thanks dad,” exclaimed Elsie joyfully.

“Hurry up before it gets too late and starts to rain!” yelled dad.

So, they went to the nearby football field. But everyone was queuing, so they asked the man in front what was happening.

“Hey, excuse me what is happening?” asked dad and Elsie.

“The world cup was STOLEN!!” said the man. You could’ve heard a pin drop.

As they stood, I wondered about Wembley, while Pickles and Dad were in shock. But then they began walking and I saw Pickles growling at a hooded figure in the distance. As I watched, Pickles’ lead pulled me, “PICKLES STOP,” I shouted. But the lead slipped out of my hands, so I ran whilst dad would shout at him to stop.

I ran and grabbed the lead, but realised I Pickles wasn’t on the lead anymore, but on top of THE MAN!

“PICKLES STOP IT,” I yelled.

But the man ran to the park and with a bag and dumped it. Pickles ran through the thorny bush and came out with the WORLD CUP!! A woman nearby saw it and took a picture saying, “LOOK AT THAT GIRL AND THE DOG. THEY FOUND THE WORLD CUP. THEY SAVED US. THEY SAVED OUR TEAM!”

4

We were still insanely happy and excited even as they took photos of the three of us.

I asked dad if we were going to Wembley Stadium and with a quiet voice he said, “Yes... But what about Bill?” said Dad silently.

“Bill, Bill? Who’s Bill? Is he nice or mean? Or is it a Bill that we need to pay?” I asked curiously.

“I think he wants us to pay him all our money!” explained Dad.

“No, No, no we need to pay our bill, or we’ll have NO house,” I groaned.

“Oh, I'll send money right away okay Elsie?!” yelled dad worryingly, But she asked about Wembley again and he said, “Yea, let's go,” and we were on our way and I couldn’t wait!

I could already dream about Wembley Stadium and now we’re on our way to the stadium with my old coach. Whilst we were on our way, I thought about the lady who took the picture of me, dad and Pickles with the world cup. It still felt like paradise. We were walking on air.

5

“We’re here!” yelled Coach. Me, dad and Pickles were so excited. We smelt wonderful popcorn. I was daydreaming whilst Coach and everyone were halfway there! I ran to catch up, which I did do. When we arrived, a security person approached saying, ”NO DOGS ALLOWED!” whilst pointing at the sign saying: “No dogs Allowed” with a pale face. An old man saw this and showed the security person a picture OF PICKLES, DAD AND ME WITH THE WORLD CUP. The security person’s face changed, and he immediately hugged Pickles who slithered through his arms, and in a second, we were in Wembley Stadium!

And, just like that we were in the FINALS!

Pickles and me tackled the player with the ball, I passed to Pickles and we SCORED, WE HAD WON THE WORLD CUP!! It felt even more like paradise now and everyone was chanting and shouting.

6

“Hey, Elsie let’s go to the park!” exclaimed Dad.

“Ok,” replied Elsie.

“But wait you have to go to Wembley,” responded Dad.

“Oh yeah I totally forgot,” added Elsie.

“Well, we better get going,” suggested Dad.

“Woof woof,” barked Pickles.

The stadium was massive. It smelt of luscious flowers. The crowd was shouting ‘Alai, alai.’ The crowd was eating popcorn, burgers, pizza, chicken nuggets and hotdogs. There were crumbs from every food from the floor to the seats.

After the match the whole crowd was happy because the Saints had won the world cup. Thanks to Pickles all of the Saints were having to sign millions of shirts per second. Dad and Elsie and Pickles were the happiest people at the match.

7

‘’Hey Elsie. Do you want to go to the park? Only for 10 minutes,” asked Dad.

“Yeah, Dad that is a great idea Dad,” said Elsie.

“Oh yeah. Oh, Elsie, I just remembered you have Wembley today because it is Saturday,” replied Dad.

“Oh yeah I nearly forgot!” said Elsie.

When we arrived at Wembley Stadium, we could not believe how humid it was there. we could hear all the fans. It was so much louder than we thought it would be. We were eating popcorn and hotdog. as we were there, it all happened. We came in the stadium and got to touch the world cup and won it.

It was the best day ever and ever at Wembley Stadium. We supported our team by shouting, “Yeah!” and we started getting out of our seats and hugging the football players. Elsie was with all her team friends but some of the players were sad and crying and getting out of the stadium and going home. Because they all lost 7 -1 with Elsie’s team scoring 7 and their team scored 1. It was embarrassing for them.

But for Elsie and her dad and me, “It was the best day ever in the world ever!”

8

“Dad it’s the big day!” exclaimed Elsie. “I know but we need to get ready!” explained Dad.

“Ok, Dad” replied Elsie.

“Elsie, I see the bus we need to go,“ suggested Dad.

“Coming,” answered Elsie.

The three of them walked on the bus to Wembley.

“Dad when do we get to Wembley!” asked Elsie. “Elsie, Wembley is there!” shouted dad.

“Sorry,” added Elsie.

While we arrived at Wembley stadium, I could hear fans chanting and singing songs. The atmosphere was buzzing, and the stadium was humongous. I could smell fresh hotdogs cooking. On the grill the popcorn smelled delicious. It felt like we were walking on air: when we came closer the country’s colours were everywhere.

After we got into the stadium, England had already scored a goal.

“Dad when’s it halftime so I can play?” questioned Elsie. “Now!” exclaimed Dad.

After halftime we were very excited because they had won the halftime game.

“Elsie I’m so proud!” shouted Dad.

When we had settled down, we watched England play and they won it 3-0.

“England has really won it - the game of the century,” exclaimed Elsie.

We were so happy, we roared as loud as we could.

9

“Dad, can we go to the park?” asked Elsie.

“Yes, we can, but we have 20 minutes, so we are going to go to the bus stop in 10 minutes,” replied Dad.

“Just let me get my football,” said Elsie.

“Ok, just hurry up,” shouted Dad.

When we arrived at Wembley stadium, the stadium was huge. We heard people screaming. When we entered, I could smell the popcorn. We went to our seats, and I could hear people cheering and shouting and I could smell the beautiful popcorn.

We were cheering for our team. The popcorn man came, and we bought popcorn and hotdogs.

“Dad, when is it half time?” asked Elsie.

“In 30 seconds,” replied Dad.

“Yay, I am excited,” said Elsie.

It was half time and we started playing. Our team was the best team. Elsie scored 3 goals and I scored 2 goals.

“Dad, we won!” shouted Elsie.

“I am so proud of both of you,” said Dad.

10

“Hey, Elsie. Today is the day we are going to Wembley,” said Dad.

“Wow brilliant. Let’s get ready,” said Elsie.

“Let’s go and pick up your ball said Dad.

“I can’t wait,’’ said Elsie.

When I watched the match, I was excited. It’s nearly my turn to play. I think England is going to win. Let’s be cheering and waving flags at our team. England wins! We’ll cheer and celebrate. We are so exited if England wins.

I can’t wait. When England will win, I’ll have no words. If England wins, there will be fireworks and blue smoke and fireworks, and everyone will be cheering and shouting.

When I walked in Wembley stadium, I saw people chanting and celebrating and I smelled hot burgers.

What a fabulous day.

11

“Let’s get ready. Today is the day we’re going to Wembley,’’ shouted dad.

‘’Ok let’s go,‘’ replied Elsie.

‘’I’m so excited. I hardly slept.’’

‘’We don’t have much time so get your bag and Pickles’ lead and then we can go,’’ said dad.

When we arrived at Wembley stadium it looked beautiful. We could smell the popcorn and it smelt delicious.

We watched the match it very exciting! At half time England were winning but there was a boy crying on the seat. Elsie went to the boy and said, “Why are you crying?’’ The boy said sadly, ‘’because my team is losing.’’

Suddenly I ran on to the field and took the ball. I scored a goal, and the crowd were shaken. The game ended and England won the world cup. All thanks to me.

12

“Elsie, Elsie! Wake up. The big day has arrived!” exalted Dad. “Yuppie. Hurray!” shouted Elsie.

“Are you ready to go?” asked Dad.

“Wait, let me get my football, a banana and an apple for the way,” replied Elsie.

“Quick then because we have to catch the bus!” exclaimed Dad.

“Can we take Pickles too?” asked Elsie.

“Ok we can,” said Dad.

“As we go to the bus stop can I eat my banana on the way?”

“You can,” said Dad.

“I’m so excited dad!” said Elsie excitedly.

When Elsie and Dad and I arrived, we heard the crowd screaming, it felt like I was walking on air. We smelled popcorn, hotdogs, and drinks. We sat on the 5th floor. I was a bit scared because it was high. Until the game started… the players went out and Elsie and Dad started to sing a special football song.

After 15 minutes, Elsie asked, “When am I going on the pitch?”

“In the next 15 minutes,” answered Dad.

“Dad, how many more minutes?”

“Just 5 minutes now,” replied Dad.

“Dad?” whispered Elsie.

“What now?” asked Dad. (He was a bit confused.)

“I’m a bit nervous, dad,” whispered Elsie.

“Oh Elsie, there’s 1 minute left,” said Dad. “You have to go now.”

Elsie showed all her best tricks. Elsie went to sit on her chair, 30 min past and England wins.

“It’s the best day of my life” exclaimed Elsie.

“Woof!” I agreed.

13

‘’Dad can we go to Wembley?!’’ asked Elsie.

‘’Ok, we can go to Wembley,’’ replied Dad.

‘’And when we get there can we go to the stadium?’’ insisted Elsie.

‘’Alright,‘’ answered Dad.

‘’Yay!‘’ screamed Elsie happily.

‘’Shhh. Calm down. We don’t want the dog to wake up,‘’ whispered Dad.

‘’Ok’’ quietly whispered Elsie.

‘’Right, come on let’s go and surprise the dog,’’ whispered Dad.

‘’Alright, I’ll get the dog,’’ carefully said Elsie.

‘’We can go to the park, then we can go and catch the bus.”

So off they went to Wembley stadium. They were amazed when they got there and saw the magnificent building and the Saints arriving at Wembley stadium. As they got inside, they hurried though it was too loud! Even Elsie and dad could not hear each other. When they were about to get through the bodyguard stopped them because of me. Elsie was upset but the people who were there said, ‘’That’s the dog who saved the world cup!”

‘’What?’’ said the bodyguard.

“Look here is a picture. Can’t you see he has it in his mouth?” said the people that were there.

‘’Let’s go to our seat and get ready to watch the match ok dad,’’ hurried Elsie.

They got to their seats and Elsie asked, ‘’Dad can I play?’’

We watched while Elsie and her team played the match.

‘’Come on Elsie, you can do it!’’ everyone was cheering and at the end of the match, dad looked at Elsie.

‘’You did so well, Elsie’’

‘’Thanks dad.’’ She said with a huge smile on her face.

14

The big day arrived.

“Hey Elsie, do you want to catch up the bus,” asked dad.

“Ok, but what about Pickles?” replied Emily.

“Pickles is ok. He is coming too, so let’s be fast before the bus goes away and put on your jacket it’s raining “ said dad.

“Pickles is coming! Let’s go! I’m excited. Do not let us down,” shouted Elsie.

‘’Coming team! Let’s go to Wembley Stadium,” said dad.

‘I’m excited. Let’s go,” I woofed.

“Come on. The match will start soon,” said dad.

“The rain has stopped. Let get on the bus before it goes. We’ll have to be quick,” added Elsie.

“Oh no, I forgot my football. I will get it quick,” said Elsie as she ran upstairs.

The bus arrived. And we just made it.

When we arrived at Wembley Stadium there were 1000s of people chanting, singing and cheering. It was a beautiful day to come to the match. I could smell the hot dogs, they smelled good enough to eat, but I cannot eat the hot dog because Elsie will not allow me so I follow her rules. I am a good boy after all. I hear the sounds of people singing but as I enter, the guard will not allow us in. He says dogs aren’t allowed.

15

Then a person came, and he had his phone. He showed a picture of me and then guard allowed us in because I was holding the World Cup trophy. I brought it back, so they let me in. Phew!

We sat in our chairs and people were looking at us. They cannot believe it themselves. Elsie asked dad when the match would start, and he said it’s nearly 2 minutes. I was excited, and dad said that it’s unbelievable.

We win! We celebrated, for England’s game was amazing. We love us!

“We won!” shouted dad.

I was happy we scored so many goals and we won. We are the best.

16

“Hey, Elsie. Hurry up and get dressed. It’s the day we are going to Wembley,” said dad.

“Really, I can’t wait to get there. I will get my football!” said Elsie excitedly.

“Good, I’m waiting. Hurry,” exalted dad excitedly.

“I’m ready. I can’t wait to see the team. Is Pickle coming?” asked Elsie.

“Yes, Pickle’s coming, if the guard says yes,” worried Dad.

“Ok Dad if you say so,” said Elsie nervously.

“Let’s get on the bus before quickly before it goes,” said Dad. “Ok. Come on Pickles come with me. Hurry!” exclaimed Elsie.

When we got there, we could hear cheerful people and we could smell food and sweets and popcorn and, when we sat down, it felt like we were soaring through the air. It was the greatest although the guard disagreed because the sign said, ‘No dogs allowed,’ at first but then he let me in. It was humongous and the grass was so, so smooth. It was painted white. We tasted some of the food, it was delicious, and it felt like we were walking on air. The crowd’s songs were like it was the best party in the world with the chanting and cheering. It was huge! We were at the top and it was amazing. When we got sat down, we watched the game and finally it was mine and Elsie’s turn and of course the team. We scored every goal and of course I showed all of my tricks at the end and when we finally finished, we tried to get back to our seats, but everybody wanted a picture of me! Dad and Elsie let everybody and finally after all that we walked to our seats. I almost fell asleep, but I couldn’t I was so, so, so excited that I stayed watching, it was amazing. I couldn’t sleep the whole entire night. But it was worth it.

17

“Hey, Dad, when are we going to Wembley?” asked Elsie looking at her watch.

“Half past 1” answered Dad.

“Ok,” replied Elsie. “How long’s that?”

“10 minutes,” exclaimed Dad.

“Sounds like a good idea,” added Elsie. “Are we going now?”

“Ok,” responded Dad. “Is it going to be fun?”

“Don’t be silly, of course it is,” yelled Elsie.

“Ok,” announced Dad.

When the day arrived at Wembley stadium, I could smell the hot dogs and the noodles even the chips. As we were going to the seats, it was so loud my ears were hurting. People were chanting. It was like a concert with all the singing.

After half time, it was my go. I was so nervous while everybody was watching me on the pitch. I was showing all my tricks, and everyone was cheering for me. I was extremely excited. It was so hard, and I was so hot I was dripping, but guess what? It was amazing.

“I won! Dad, we won,” squealed Elsie.

“Wow, Elsie, I am so proud of you,” said dad smiling.

“I won because you and more people were cheering for me until we scored a goal 4 times in a row. I am so happy I won at football.”

18

“Hey, Elsie. Do you want to go to the park?” said Dad.

“Alright, Dad. First, let me get the football,” replied Elsie.

“Quickly, before it rains and we need to go at Wembley,” explained Dad.

When we arrived at Wembley Stadium, we could hear chanting, screaming and shouting and we smelled hot dogs, chips, pie and sandwiches. It made me feel really hungry. And we saw famous football it was quite impressive, and I mean really impressive!

19

“Hey, Elsie. Do you want to go to Wembley?” asked dad.

“Yes please, can we go now please!” screamed Elsie in happiness.

“We’re going at 8:30,” explained dad.

“What time is it now?” said Elsie.

“It’s 8:29. Never mind, it’s near enough to 8:30,” suggested dad.

“We have to go to Wembley!” screamed Elsie.

Then they arrived at Wembley.

“Oh, my goodness. We are at Wembley. I always wanted to go here, thank you, dad,” exclaimed Elsie.

We arrived at the field and got to play with our favourite team. I loved it: chasing around and showing off my tricks.

“Oh, my goodness. That’s my favourite player,” shouted Elsie. “Wait, that’s not my best player. Wait, never mind that is my best player. Hey, dad. I’m going to ask him a picture!” asked Elsie.

“Ok, Elsie take my phone - only for a picture and don’t be long, ok,” explained dad.

“Ok dad,” said Elsie. “Or do you want to go take a picture whole team because I want to see the whole team please and I want to take a picture with them too,” screamed Elsie excitedly.

20

“Elsie, wake up, today is the big day,” said Dad with a big smile on his face. “We’re going to Wembley!”

“Hurry!” exclaimed Elsie with the biggest smile on her face.

“Woof,” I agreed.

“Let’s get readdyyyyy,” shouted Elsie.

“Alright, alright, no need to rush,” laughed Dad.

When we arrived at Wembley Stadium, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The smell of popcorn whizzed into our nostrils. People were chanting, horns blared and people were singing - it was such an amazing view.

As we watched England play, my tummy fizzed with excitement. Soon it would be our turn to go on the pitch. “Is it nearly half time Dad?" asked Elsie.

“Two more minutes,” replied Dad Finally! It was our turn. I showed all my tricks. And guess what we…

WON!

It was the best day ever!

“Pickles,” exclaimed Elsie, “You’re the best, I’ll never forget this day.”

21

“Hey, dad, can we go to Wembley to watch the world cup?” asked Elsie.

“Ok Elsie. We have to catch the bus then!” exclaimed Dad.

“Hurry then Dad. The bus is leaving!” exclaimed Elsie.

“Elsie, look, the bus is at Wembley!” added Dad.

“Yessssss!” shouted Elsie.

Wembley was enormous. I couldn’t get over the smell of hotdogs, popcorn, and cotton candy. The hotdogs were so good that my mouth was watering. I could hear the crowd roaring so loudly my ears hurt!

“Dad when is my team on?” shouted Elsie. “Two more minutes, Elsie.” added Dad.

“Ok Dad I am on now. I hope I win.” exclaimed Elsie.

“Do well, Elsie.” said Dad.

“I will,” added Elsie.

“I went on the pitch, and I won!” shouted Elsie.

“Well done, Kiddo,” added Dad.

“Can we go home now, dad? I’m exhausted” said Elsie with a huge smile on her face.

22

“Shall we go to the football?” asked Dad. “Are we going in the car or getting the bus?” asked Elsie. Dad said, “Let’s get the bus.”

When we got to the match, the crowds were wild. The atmosphere was amazing! There was a man selling hotdogs. The hotdogs smelt amazing. I couldn’t stop dribbling! Until the man asked me, did I want one?

15 minutes later, and then I was on the football pitch. Elsie and dad were watching in the crowd. They were taking pictures of me! They were very interested in me! We won. The score was 5 to us and 3 to the other team. The crowds were screaming and clapping - all for me! That was the day I won the world cup!!

23

“Hey, Dad. Can we go to Wembley?” asked Elsie.

“Sure, Elsie,” explained Dad.

“Ok. I’m changing now then,” announced Elsie excitedly.

“Hurry up before the bus leaves,” said Dad. “Ok I can see the bus. Hurry up!”

When we arrived at Wembley Stadium it was that high it was echoing all around. I could hear the shouting, screaming and loud cheering from outside and I couldn’t get over the smell of popcorn and food that was handed out when we got there. Inside, it was ginormous. It made me feel a bit scared at first.

“Dad, is it half time yet?” asked Elsie

“Not yet, Elsie. It is still two minutes,” replied dad. A few moments later, “Ok, Elsie 1 minute to go now.”

Elsie was very excited. We played the best that we ever played for ever and we won the match. England won and Elsie told dad that it was the best day ever. I couldn’t help but agree.

24

The Dog that saved the world (cup)

“Come on, Elsie, we’re going to be late for Wembley!” shouted dad.

“Ok, dad. Let me find my football first,” explained Elsie.

“There it is Elsie, get it and come on,” said dad.

“Dad, dad, get your change out the bus is here,” added Elise. When we arrived at Wembley, I couldn’t get over the smell of the lovely smell of popcorn. The crowds were so busy.

Elsie was holding on to me, so I didn’t get lost.

We sat in our seats to watch the game and I couldn’t wait to play with Elsie at half time.

“Is it half time yet dad?” asked Elsie.

“Twenty more minutes, Elsie” replied dad.

Half time came.

“I scored dad, this is the best day ever!” said Elsie.

“Woof, woof,” I agreed.

25

“Hey, Elsie. Do you want to go and watch the Saints team in the final,” asked Dad.

“Yes, I would love to, I am so excited,” replied Elsie.

”Pack your bags and let's go,” shouted Dad.

When we arrived at Wembley stadium it was big. We could smell popcorn, sandwiches, chips and hot dogs. As we entered the gate, people were chanting like ahhhhh! It felt like my ears were bursting out.

“Dad is it time to go on the pitch?” asked Elsie.

“The match just started, so in 45 minutes,” added Dad.

‘’Ok, I will go in the changing room and get changed,” said Elsie.

“Elsie, are you ready? We’re going on in 5 minutes,” shouted Dad.

“I am ready. I am just putting on my boots,” explained Elsie.

“Ok. Elsie come on the pitch,” said Dad.

“I finished my training. We just scored,” said Elsie.

“I minute till the end of the match, and we just won!”

Elsie screamed.

26

“Hey, Elsie, do you want to catch the bus before your Wembley stadium match starts?” asked dad.

“Yes! Let me go and get my football kit for the match,” replied Elsie.

“Ok, go and get your football as well.” exclaimed dad.

When dad and Elsie were walking to the match, Elsie was bursting with excitement. While I was watching Elsie play her match, I was so proud. She won. Now she gets to go to the final at half time! When she got to the final, she was dribbling and tackling people a lot. She thought that the final was easy but then she had to tackle people that were actually footballers. But then over the years she had got used to tackling people and dribbling around footballers. So, she kept on going.

Pickles thought to himself, if she can do it, I can do it too, and he did do it.

Wembley Stadium was enormous, and the noise from the crowd was deafening. It was an incredible day.
