The Still Point invites PhD students to share their work and creativity in a playful and informal space. This edition explores the idea of 'traces' through poetry, prose and photography. When we sent out a call for submissions for this fourth edition, we asked contributors to consider traces: of time and of space; visible and invisible; as inspiration and as practice. The submissions we received responded to and interrogated these prompts with imagination, intelligence and wit. We are delighted to share them with you here.
As researchers we are always dealing with traces: we gather traces of times, places and people far away from our desks, then trace new ideas and meanings in our work. It is no wonder then that we find in this collection such a rich variety of interpretations of the theme, from lyrical meditations on traces of memory to rigorous interrogations of what it means to trace. We are hugely grateful to all of our contributors for their submissions, as well as to our graphic designer Ollie.
