Fashion Blogging 101 The basics of your own start-up fashion blog By: Erick Listana, Correspondent

Before you launch your own fashion blog, ask yourself one question: why do you want to start a blog? Is it a) going to be your inspiration board for your #OOTD, b) your online fashion diary for your runway reviews, or c) a fun hobby just to pass the time? When you have a certain reason for your blog, then you are on the right track. Now that’s done, here’s a start-up guide for a wannabe blogger like you for an appealing, well-read blog, just how you like it!

NAME IT It’s not just a name or a label, it’s your identity. Have a brainstorming session, do a little research, and bounce ideas to your creative friends. Pick a name that reflects who you are and sets you apart. Go for something that’s relatively unique!

CHOOSE A PLATFORM The sky is the limit! There are tons of publishing tools you can use and some have become household names (hello, Tumblr!) But each tool has its own pros and cons so play around before you commit to whichever one you’re most happy with. • Blogger is the most popular among personal-style bloggers because it’s easy to work with and there are many layouts that can be personalized to suit anyone’s style at the click of a mouse. • Tumblr has thousands of themes to choose from! Its laidback design makes for easy posting and because of its re-blogging feature, it makes networking unbelievably easy. • Wordpress is a platform for more experienced bloggers. Not necessarily exclusive for web designers, but it is preferred by those who know web coding.

BLOG DESIGN Blog design and layout can take from 10 minutes to one month, depending on whether you go to the ready-made ones or hire a web designer to customize your layout, unless you can work it out on your own. Whichever approach you decide, just remember that fancy designs only go so far because in the end, netizens will come back because they like what they read.

Nothing fancy is necessary; a blog just needs to be easy to read and navigate.
