Actions and Interaction was written for the Hilda’s 2021 Mental Health Writing Competition, and is about withdrawing from the people and world around us.

Newton’s 3rd law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. This law extends out beyond an ideal world where ball hits wall and wall hits ball. It represents our ties because we all have to try to reply to those interactions.

The relativity of time seems to only apply to you. You’re confined to your sector of the universe and the whole world is rushing by, You’re reminded of the past but now everything is so fast, and they’re forgetting about you.

But maybe Newton got it wrong. Because all along you come to realise that you’re the only one providing the first push. The reactions becomes less and less equal until there are no longer any opposites. And it’s just you. Alone. No external force to keep you in motion.
