It has been an honor to serve as president of the NWGA Chapter. I have watched this chapter grow and accomplish so many things. You will be voting for new officers soon and the slate of candidates is commendable. I am confident in each of the candidates and know that each has a strong desire for the chapter to continue to excel.

Nominating Committee Hosts New Officer Elections The nominating committee chaired by Yvette Terry will hold elections for new officers during the May 21st meeting. Nominees were able to introduce themselves to the chapter members for consideration.

Candidates for the Position of Chapter President:

Cheryl Cole- Over 20 years of public service, advocacy leadership and management skills in various organizations/settings. Charter member of the Northwest Georgia Chapter Participated in Karios prison ministry, Cobb Democratic Women, NAACP, and YWCA Served as Program Chair for NWGA Campaign Platform: Seeks to build a bigger, better, bolder NWGA to take it to the next LEVEL!

Christy Moore- Extensive advocacy experience and dedication to serve. Serves and participates on Oncology or health related committees with Northside Hospital. Served as Health Committee Chair for NWGA Campaign Platform: Wants the ABCs of the NWGA …start from the ground up, be more community based.

MembershiEp Committee On, Sunday,May 22, 2011 the Northwest Georgia Chapter will induct 12 new members. The inductees were selected after an intensive screening process which included interviews and the submission of resumes and letters of recommendations. The induction ceremony will be held at the Doubletree Guest Suites 2780 Windy Ridge Parkway, Atlanta, Georgia. Dinner will be $30 for adults and $15 for children. Arts and Culture Committee The Arts and Culture Committee sponsored the first "Atlanta Artist Showcase" held on Saturday, May 14th from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at the Avisca Fine Art Gallery. Local up and coming artists showcased their talents through visual and performing arts with original paintings and serenaded the audience in a backdrop of African American Art at the Avisca Fine Art Gallery. The committee provided refreshments and welcomed the guests while the artists had an opportunity to showcase their talents. Local artists who showcased their work included: visual artists Delores Surry-Smith, Debra Renee Jeter, Alva McNeal, Brenda Hillman, Tanya Stacks, and vocalists: Noelle Strong, and Sylvia Janette Lott. *painting by Delores Surry -Smith Ernestine Claiborne Arts and Culture Committee Chair arts@nc100bwnwga.org

Health Committee The 100 Black Men of America, North Fulton Chapter has asked for our chapter’s assistance to help spread the word about an upcoming Prostate Cancer Screening in collaboration with Northside Hospital. PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood tests and digital rectal exams will be provided at no charge. This event will take place Thursday, June 16, 2011, 6 - 8 p.m. at Georgia Highland Medical Services (260 Elm Street, Cumming, GA 30040). Registration is required and began May 2, 2011. To schedule an appointment, please call (404) 845-5555 and press “0.” Ladies encourage a male your care about to make an appointment Christy Moore Health Committee Chair. health@nc100bwnwga.org Economic Development The Economic Development Committee represented by Marty Pinkston and Stephanie hosted NCBW My Sister’s Keeper Financial Literacy Boot Camps. Evans advised NWGA members to be careful when using credit cards. The new regulations for credit card ensure that a person credit card limit cannot exceed 2X the yearly income. In this economy, there are many reasons to maintain good credit the major reason is employment. The committee offered ten ways NWGA members could be smarter about credit cards.: 8


Use only one card Find a card with no annual fee and/or low interest rate Pay entire balance every month If you cannot pay entire balance,pay more than the minimum Mail payments as soon as bill arrives Do not put expensive items on the card Never let anyone use your card Never get a cash advance Discard the convenience checks Reward yourself for taking charge of the credit card *Keep balance to ½ credit limit
