ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITY

THE VIEW FROM STEVENS IS

EXCEPTIONAL So is the opportunity. Stevens students enjoy a vibrant and dynamic living and learning environment.

Taking a step onto the Stevens campus will take your breath away. It’s more than just the spectacular view from our Hoboken, New Jersey, campus — high on a bluff overlooking Manhattan. (Imagine waking up to that view every day!) It promises everything from entertainment to enterprise. But keep looking around — there is no shortage of inspiration at Stevens!

It starts with our students: full of interests, curiosity and enthusiasm. They’re here to change the world. And when you’re among them, you’ll see: Stevens will provide you with the knowledge, experience and confdence to do just that. Classes and experiences provide real-world know-how. Faculty members teach, listen, advise, challenge and inspire. Your classmates? They’ll encourage and collaborate — and will make sure you have a lot of fun, too.

You’ll learn, think, apply, rethink, repeat, learn more. Then you’ll

TAKE IT OUT INTO THE WORLD. It all adds up to an INCREDIBLY MOTIVATING and supportive environment where you can scale up to make the impact you’ve always known you could make.

OPPORTUNITY IS HERE for those with the drive to pursue it. WE INVITE YOU TO EXPERIENCE IT FOR YOURSELF.

AN INSIDE VIEW: TEAMWORK

In group projects, you have to fnd ways to have effective meetings and match responsibilities to people’s strengths. Those skills carry over into the workplace, especially in my feld. In construction, it’s all a team effort.

ACADEMICS

OUR WORLD HAS MAJOR CHALLENGES WHICH IS WHY WE OFFER SUCH

RELEVANT MAJORS Students have access to state-of-the-art labs and facilities, like the new PROtotype Object Fabrication (PROOF) Lab, shown here.

Rigorous and rewarding academics The problems of our world stretch far and wide. The 34 majors we offer — including cutting-edge programs in business, the humanities, arts, engineering, science and computer science — are all geared toward teaching our students how to solve those problems. Hard-working and socially conscious, our students come to Stevens for the kind of learning and experiences that will help them make an impact. And they receive close, personal attention from faculty advisors who share the same interests.

AN INSIDE VIEW: RELEVANT CLASSES

My studies at Stevens have been 100% applicable — from core classes that prepare you to excel in chemical engineering in any industry, to my electives in pharmaceutical manufacturing engineering, to my graduate courses, to the industry experiences so many of my professors shared — all of which have helped me in my work.

Janice Frontera, Class of 2018 Major: Chemical Engineering Currently: Associate Engineering Specialist, Merck

Subjects that complement each other Stevens is a school rooted in technology, but with branches in many directions. Here you’ll experience a broad range of subjects and fnd new ways to think about the world: • •

Study music, art and humanities — but with a tech spin. Go beyond traditional business concepts to learn how to solve problems and create value through analytics, social media and mobile tech. Approach engineering through an entrepreneurial lens that emphasizes problem-solving, imaginative approaches and commitment to putting ideas into practice — boosting your ability to solve complex, interdisciplinary problems. Take science beyond the lab to get a view of how its application can transform both human lives and business practices.

ENTREPRENEURIAL THINKING

HOW DOES AN IDEA

BECOME A IDEA?

Add perspective. Challenge it. Revisit it. Bring others in. Turn it upside down and look at it from another angle. Push it farther. In short: Think like an entrepreneur.

You might even fnd yourself with a commercially viable product and be on your way to a startup (that happens pretty often here).

Whether or not launching a startup is part of your plan, one thing is certain: Learning to think like an entrepreneur can catapult you beyond the typical engineering, business and management skillset.

And when you’re ready, we’re ready. The Stevens Venture Center brings the expertise, guidance and incubator workspace to help commercially viable student ideas mature to investment and marketplace realization.

Collaborative projects are at the core of the Stevens experience and so is learning to take intellectual risks. With freshman-level courses in entrepreneurial thinking and a senior capstone design project, agile and solutions-oriented thinking is woven throughout your experience here.

These experiences allow students to tackle realworld problems, often sponsored or supported by partners in industry. The outcomes: real knowledge, real applications, real advantages for our students.

INSPIRED INNOVATION — FOR THE GREATER GOOD A 40-student, interdisciplinary Stevens team was inspired by the disastrous events of Hurricane Sandy to create a net-zero energy home resilient enough to withstand hurricane-force winds and fooding in vulnerable areas along coastlines. SU+RE HOUSE, which came to be known as the coastal home of the future, captured the national title in the 2015 Department of Energy Solar Decathlon competition. The house is now on display at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey.

AN INSIDE VIEW: REAL-WORLD EXPOSURE

A lot of my classes tied into the topics I make videos about. Courses in economics and social media marketing were eye-opening, in terms of understanding companies and their behavior.

STUDENT PROFILE

THE ONE THING OUR

STUDENTS HAVE IN COMMON...

is that they are

UNCOMMON Individuals with interests What kind of student goes to Stevens? The answer may surprise you. While Stevens attracts many different types — techies, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians — most of them have a unique combination of skills and passions. Our students are well-rounded, with a tremendous range of interests. They are engineers who are talented musicians, artists who are gifted programmers, stock market enthusiasts who are history buffs, scientists with record-breaking times on the track. And they come from 35 states and 66 countries, contributing distinct viewpoints and perspectives to our community.

STE VENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLO GY

STE VENS.EDU

Our students are big thinkers who are driven to learn, explore and try new things. They are open to opportunities that extend their reach. They work hard. But they also play hard. And that motivation results in success in the classroom, in their extracurricular activities and, ultimately, in their careers. Another thing our students have in common:

THEY ALL ARE PURSUING THEIR PASSIONS.

AN INSIDE VIEW: REAL-WORLD EXPOSURE

From classes like software and informatics, to operations research and data mining, [Stevens] students get a wide breadth of interesting, challenging classes that translate into excellent workplace skills.

There’s enough on our Hoboken campus to keep you busy, but with outrageously close access to Manhattan, the mountains, the shore and more, why stop there? By foot, car or public transportation, you can enjoy all that our area has to offer. Hop on a bus, ferry or train, all walking distance from campus, and access the metro area in minutes. If there’s a limit to all you can do and see here...we haven’t found it yet.

STUDENT LIFE

IT’S NOT JUST WHERE YOU LIVE,

IT’S HOW YOU LIVE STE VENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLO GY

|

STE VENS.EDU

It’s all about community. At Stevens, students experience not one, but a concentric ring of communities, flled with things to do and places to see. Live on campus. Live music at Techfest and Boken. The formal ball on Founder’s Day. The popular Castle Point Anime Convention. The diversity of the Unity Show. The convenience of residence halls, apartmentstyle living and special-interest housing. Ours is a secure, close-knit community where you can live, collaborate and play. Take “seize the day” to a whole new level. Hop into Hoboken. Just down the hill is a city of coffeehouses, cafes, health clubs, shopping and more. Forbes considers it one of the most walkable cities in America. The home of Cake Boss, and the birthplace of Frank Sinatra and baseball, Hoboken is also our hometown, ranked among the top college towns in the nation by The Princeton Review, and the place where our students give back through community service and local volunteering. Did we mention the world’s largest pizza slice? Cross the river to Manhattan. Minutes away, but close enough to visit for a few hours or spend the day. Take in a play or concert, visit a museum, cheer on a major league sports team, explore the neighborhoods or enjoy the diversity of restaurants. It’s the Big Apple. Take a bite! Jet across the ocean. Traveling the world is a rich, rewarding, never-to-be-forgotten adventure. Study abroad options, Engineers Without Borders trips, excursions during winter and spring break, and global internships are just a few other ways our students experience the world.

AN INSIDE VIEW: NURTURING THE WHOLE PERSON

With 100+ clubs, there’s defnitely something for you. College is about more than academics. Getting involved helped me grow as a person, provided me with so many opportunities and created great memories at Stevens.
