About Me

I first decided that I wanted to pursue interior design as a career, it never felt more right of a decision. I was 31 when I decided to go back to school, at the height of the pandemic, working in a job that I did not want to return to. Then it clicked. I have always loved interior design; I just did not think of it as a career until that moment. If I could do anything in this field, I would love to do be able to design hotels, restaurants, and homes, while bringing in fun colours, interesting shapes, and using nature to inspire the result.

When planning for a design, I generally like to start with something that is important to the client and build from there. Whether that is the clients favourite colour, movie, book, shape, ect. I like to build from that and allow myself to reach the furthest corner of my artistic mind to find something. Usually, I will start with that and create a mind map to give me ideas. Knowing what the client is interested in design wise also helps, but that is only part of it.

The current project I am working on in school is a large office space. The challenge is having to configure all the needs into a space and make it look beautiful, When I am working, I like to challenge myself in every aspect. While my favourite style is more eccentric, I am designing the space as more minimal and functional, using Scandanavian design as the inspiration. Going with this gives me a diverse design perspective, wanting to be able to design eclectic, minimalistic, and to be able to combine the two.

One of the first things you learn when researching climate change, is that global temperatures have risen 0.85°C (1.4°F) in the past 100 years and the “hottest year on record” has been broken continuously since 2015. Extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and higher temperatures are all things we can continue to look forward to we do not start acting now. (BBC, 2020). These will have disastrous effects on every region of the world, especially those regions that do not have the means to combat it. The construction and design industries are responsible for 40% of the world’s embodied carbon emissions. Manufacturers alone are responsible for 11% of greenhouse gases (Melton, 2018). Buildings themselves aren’t the problem, it’s the destruction of the land, the sourcing of materials, and all the extras added to the building that are unnecessary (Fairs, 2021). To address climate change, governments and organizations around the world are working to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Conducting our research, we not only found solutions for this continuous problem of people designing for cheaper, bigger, and better, we found that many different people, from all over the world, in many different industries, had already designed solutions, or have innovative ideas, for the issues we are facing. From vertical wind turbines that are inspired by how fish swim in a school, to vinyl flooring made of roadside grass, and plastic that is not only made of CO2, but also sequesters the CO2 around it making carbon-negative material that is strong enough to build support for structures. Climate change is a complex issue, and there is still much to be learned about its causes and consequences. Research is ongoing, and scientists around the world are working to better understand the impacts of climate change and develop strategies to mitigate it. Innovators are giving us all the tools we need to build beautiful and sustainable buildings and designs, and it is our job to take those innovations and use them and our responsibility to ensure that we are taking the necessary steps to protect our planet for generations to come. Climate change is something that affects every single thing on this planet. In this design, our goal is to create a space that is not only beautiful and healthy atmosphere, but also minimizes the impact on the environment that surrounds it. Using innovative materials, careful planning, and new technologies, Terra is a space in which everyone can enjoy when they need to find refuge from the growing global heat temperature, we all feel. Nature already has all of the answers, why are we ignoring the solutions that are right in front of us? Concept Research Statement Monstera plants are popular houseplants, with their large, glossy leaves and unique, split-leaf appearance. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, monstera plants have long history of cultural symbolism.
