Once again to the PFAFF ANGUS and ERNST HEREFORDS ANNUAL BULL SALE! It's hard to believe how time as flown and that we have been busy preparing for another Bull Sale at Shamrock Livestock Market in O'Neill, Nebraska. Both herds have worked hard to provide bulls for your inspection sired by some of the best ANGUS and HEREFORD genetics available in north America. Every year we strive to improve our product and this set of bulls reflects that effort. The Ernst Hereford bulls are truly a calving ease set of bulls. The average birth weight EPD for the Ernst Hereford offering is 0.6 compared to the Hereford Breed average of 3.1. Also the Calving Ease Direct, or CED EPD average on our Hereford bulls is +7.5 versus Hereford Breed average of +1.6. Both the 0.6 BW EPD and the 7.5 CED EPD rank in the upper 10% of the breed for these traits. There is not a Hereford bull that has a birth EPD over the breed average in this sale. That means you can select with confidence and know that these bulls will work well on heifers but still have the growth and maternal characteristics to work on cows. These bulls will sire calves that grow rapidly for your sale calves and produce great baldy and Hereford replacement females. We are announcing a NEW PROGRAM to assist our bull customers in the merchandizing of your Hereford Influenced calves. Bill and Chris Kuehn of Heartwell, Nebraska are owners and operators of back grounding and finishing feed yards in central Nebraska They specialize in feeding and merchandizing white faced and baldy cattle. I have sold my calves to the Kuehn's in the past and they have always offered me a good and fair price on a private treaty basis. The Kuehns' will bid on your calves when you are ready to sell. They are aware of our breeding program and have confidence in the calves sired by our bulls and how they will perform in the feed yard. Just let them know that the calves are sired by Ernst Hereford bulls when you contact them. This offer applies to our bull customers from previous years sales as well as this years so that you can take advantage of this program the next time you wean. There are several other MARKETING PROGRAMS offered through the AMERICAN HEREFORD ASSOCIATION that I would like to share with you in hopes that you will be able to benefit from them. The first is the newly announced PREMIUM RED BALDY HEIFER PROGRAM. This recently announced partnership program between the American Hereford Association and the American Red Angus Association is a heifer only program that capitalizes on hybrid vigor. Females must be sired by bulls in the top 50% of the Hereford breed for the Baldy Maker Index (BMI$). The BMI$ mark for our Hereford bulls in this sale makes all but 2 of them qualified to be in the acceptable group to sire PREMIUM RED BALDY FEMALES. More detail can be found on page 29 of this catalog or by me at any time. The second program is the HEREFORD ADVANTAGE PROGRAM. This program adds brand recognition when marketing feeder cattle that are sired by a Hereford Bull Battery ranking in the top 50% for the CERTIFIED HEREFORD BEEF index (CHB$). the vast majority of this set of Hereford bulls qualify for this program as well.
