Personal Statement I’m a 28 year old recent graduate of a Masters in Architecture in University College Dublin. I have a huge passion for design and would be interested in working somewhere that allows me to explore and develop ideas.

SPLIT-LEVEL DWELLING Work under DUA. Currently 1 going through the planning process. This split level house is due to begin construction in mid November on a sheltered, scenic plot in the protected landscape of the West of Ireland. The rigorous square plan is broken only to allow vehicular access to the central courtyard. Vertical elements in the form of three oculi rise above the horizontality apparent in elevation. These oculi also serve to draw eyes upwards in the exposed ceiling structure internally. Materials are simple and solid with roof and walls sharing the same aesthetic, lending the volume a monolithic quality, playing with the concept of solids and voids.

GOATSTOWN HOUSE Restoration, reconfig uration and extension of a 1940s semi-detached residence in a Dublin City suburb. The brief called for a large open kitchen | dining | living space that could cater for the clients growing family whilst providing a direct connection with the houses existing generous east-facing garden. The kitchen forms a square hub around which the ancillary spaces bank. Material choices and finishes were of particular importance in this scheme due to it’s implicit simplicity.

URBAN STRATA REFORMATION An intense 20-week self-led thesis design project. How to restore and repair the once intrinsic link between Derry City’s core- the walled city and the continuously redefined shoreline of the River Foyle? - was the self imposed question. Succinctly put, my aim was to introduce a new public space in a key area of the city by tunneling underground to ensure that the heavy traffic presence could be alleviated. A functionally fluid new building was placed in order to regulate the current city fabric as well as screen and filter footfall at a busy junction. It’s pourous ground floor served as a habitable undercroft for pedestrians.

ARCHITECTURE ASSOCIATION OF IRELAND AWARDS EXHIBITION DESIGN 2016. Collaborators Darragh Breathnach and Banbha McCann. Using steel ropes and beatifully functional steel tensioners alone, we aimed to hang the necessary sheets with a minimalist approach in mind. The setting of the Coach House in Dublin Castle, a character-full space, led us to approach the exhibition with a certain simplicity, where the drawings could be seen to float and lit from behind. The sheets flicker as people pass and interesting light patterns formed on the floor as a result. A wayfinding ‘totem’ made entirely of paper, unstuck and acrylic sheets complimented the ephemeral theme.

MESPIL MASTERPLAN REDEVELOPMENT Work under DUA. The Mespil Estate is one of Dublin’s first purpose built apartment complex, 1950s. Our property development client wished to redevelop the dated red-brick scheme by introducing a series of interventions throughout. New estate entrances, lobbies and a redesign of the landscape were just a few of the key items that we aimed to address. Scheme proposals forced us to look both at the smallest elements in terms of finishes and details of all types whilst always considering the re-configured masterplan. Moves throughout the scheme were to remain subtle and sharp without compromising the current built environment.

ON THE ROOF 6 Working in an area relatively unknown to me in the form of Nantes, France allowed me to work with a sense of freedom. The short time-frame also urged focus on process which manifested itself in mostly exploratory sketches, with spaces presented later in renders. A brief to reformat an old brutalist hotel along the River Loire with minimum intervention led to a study of rooftop additions that could encourage a change of use for the entire structure.
