FOSTERING ACADEMIC CARE THROUGH PERSONALISED PROGRAMS Senior School Academic Learning Models

Our innovative programs develop 21st Century skills and dispositions in our students and are based on a foundation of academic care. Our Senior Years Learning Model, Independent Learning Tutorials and Teaching and Learning Framework focus on academic care and wellness.

Teaching and Learning Framework

To develop 21st Century skills in students, St Catherine’s developed the Teaching and Learning Framework in 2022. An innovative strategy that provided each student with the strongest foundation possible to reach their aspirations through the belief that students learn best when their wellbeing is optimised.

Thinking Classroom

St Catherine’s Thinking Classroom approach, ensured girls ‘used’ their knowledge, together with our trusted student-teacher-parent partnerships, and smaller class sizes, to create a consistently supportive routine across the year.

Junior School Barbreck Academic Strategy

Built from a foundation of care, the Barbreck Academic Strategy provided personalised learning for every student in Barbreck through ongoing feedback, assessment, and support. This ensured all students were engaged and connected to their learning by teachers who understood each girl’s unique characteristics and goals.

Continuous Reporting

To provide a greater level of feedback to students and their parents, Continuous Reporting was implemented in Years 4 to 6 during Semester Two. This initiative was well received by both students and will be expanded in 2023.

Specialist Health Program

All Barbreck students receive specialist Health classes throughout the year, exploring topics including their feelings and impacts of COVID lockdowns, being active, valuing diversity, exploring emotions, and staying safe. The dedicated Health classroom allowed students to explore various Health resources and feel they can ask questions and share stories in a trusting environment.
