2020 Instructor of the Year Jack Lee Hayes, Chemistry
Hayes has taught almost 15 years at SFCC and holds a Master of Arts in Education from University of Phoenix and a Master of Science in Chemistry from Indiana University. Hayes also received this award in 2016. Students nominated him for his focus on student success and engagement and consideration of others.

2020 Adjunct of the Year Robin Blackburn, Public Speaking
Since 2006, Blackburn has taught parttime recurrently at SFCC but has many years of teaching experience. She holds a Master of Science in Education from Central Missouri State University (now University of Central Missouri). Students nominated her for going above and beyond and her uplifting and positive attitude … because she loves her job.
2020 Staff of the Year Dana Goosen, TRiO Success Coach
Goosen has worked at SFCC since October 2013, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Central Methodist University. Students nominated Goosen for her attentiveness to students, positive encouragement and dedication to a healthy life style.
Students submitted 139 nominations for the three awards. Student Government Association (SGA) members reviewed all nominations and selected four candidates for each category. A ballot was emailed to SGA representatives and their constituents for voting to determine the winners. All honorees received plaques and their photos will be displayed in the Yeater Learning Center lobby on the Sedalia campus.
Other Awards and Recognition
Sara Dunn, SFCC nursing instructor, received the Associate Degree Nursing Educator of the Year award from the Missouri Organization for Associate Degree Nursing for demonstrating outstanding abilities as a nurse educator. Shawn Cripe, Institutional Effectiveness Coordinator and Grant Writer, received the SFCC Sizzle Award, which is a peer-topeer honor that was awarded by William Thomas, TRiO tutor coordinator, the previous Sizzle recipient. Amy Jackson, The LearningForce executive director, was elected to serve a three-year term on the Lake of the Ozarks Regional Economic Development Council (LOREDC) Board of Directors at its January 2020 meeting. Eric Yazell, SFCC Theatre Arts coordinator and faculty (retired), received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 5 Certificate of Merit for his dragon design for the play “She Kills Monsters.” Kristen Henning, SFCC faculty, received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 5 Certificate of Merit for directing the play “Be More Chill,” which was chosen to be performed at the KCACTF Region 5 festival before an audience of more than 1,500. Region 5 includes colleges and universities in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Kelly Asbury, Missouri Small Business Development Center director, was recognized by the University of Missouri Extension–Business Development Program for ranking in the Top 5 Greatest Impact Generation: Business Starts and in Top 5 Highest Number of Training Sessions Held.
Nursing Year One (LPN) and Year Two (RN) programs
were rated the #1 programs in Missouri by two prominent professional nursing advocacy organizations, PracticalNursing.org and RegisteredNursing.org. The LPN program has received the #1 ranking for three consecutive years. The RN program has received the #1 ranking for two consecutive years.
Missouri Community College Association 2020 Annual Awards
Award of Distinction - Darlene Bradbury and Shirley Rowden, daughters of Olen Howard Presented to individuals who have demonstrated sustained service and commitment to their local community college. It is one of the highest honors MCCA bestows.
