Reading challenge is novel

12388014-SN21-18

The Premiers' Reading Challenge has become an institution since is started more than a decade ago. Since the Challenge began in 2005, more than 2.5 million students in Victoria have read more than 45 million books. In his annual message to participants Premier Daniel Andrews said "these are numbers worth celebrating, with the Challenge serving as a cornerstone of our ambitious goal to get more kids reading". "Research shows that reading plays a vital role in a child's development, helping students develop their academic, social and emotional skills," Mr Andrews said.

"Whether casting a spell with Harry Potter, or hiding deep in the Australian bush with Hush the possum, the Challenge transports our youngest Victorians to different places and times - and in doing so, helps grow their love of reading." He wished all students good luck for this year's Challenge. "You've got some exciting reading adventures ahead." The Challenge ends on 7 September. An online Honour Roll featuring a congratulatory video will be published on the Challenge website in October. Certificates will be issued in November.
