Raquel brings art to Emerald RAQUEL Carter lives and breathes art, and it inspired her to create the Hills Art Market in Emerald to showcase local talent. Organiser, creator, and an artist herself, Ms Carter said her background in the industry inspired the birth of the Hills Art Market. It will make its debut on Saturday 11 February and will run every second weekend. Ms Carter said the market
will be a place to be immersed in creative ideas and be inspired by a gathering of local artists. “(It) would be a lovely day out for the family,” Ms Carter said. The market will focus on supporting local visual arts and musicians in the community. “We encourage local musicians of the hills to apply to the Hills Art Market ... ” Ms Carter said. Hills Art Market has been
generously supported by Belgrave’s Puffing Billy Railway, the Eastern Dandenong Ranges Association and Cardinia Shire Council. A team of creative minds of different abilities will showcase their work at the market. There will be activities for kids including magic bubbles, a ‘play and paint’ space and face painting. The big kids won’t be left out either, as there will be live
music and the market will be jam-packed of artwork to view or buy. Ms Carter grew up in an artistic family - her mother was a painter, father a photographer and her grandmother started out as a potter, sculpture artist and illustrator. This led Ms Carter to The
National Art School in Sydney where she completed an Honours Degree in Fine Art. “The Hills Art Market is a space for the artists to commune, form networks and a place to exhibit their work and build on the art and culture of our communities, while also having an awesome day together swimming in beautiful
unique artwork,” Ms Carter said. “As my grandmother always said, ‘everyone’s artwork deserves to be seen and has something to offer the viewer’.” The Hills Art Market will be located on 1 Memorial Drive, Emerald. For more information, email info @ Hillsartmarket.com
