Buckets& Bouquets Buckets to a pair of members of my own football club for harassing me while I watched a match on 12 April. They insulted me in front of other spectators. I have volunteered my time to the club since 2000 but no more. Very Disappointed, Manifold Heights Bouquets to Damon, in the paint department at Bunnings Warehouse Norlane. He is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I hope Damon’s employer recognises his value. Oldies, Herne Hill Bouquets to a gentleman who always picks up after his very-regular dog when it does its daily business in the vicinity of my home. It’s a pity some other dog walkers living in our street won’t take a leaf out of his book. Good Neighbour, Newtown Bouquets to the children who returned my purse with all the money and cards still inside after I somehow lost it at a nearby shop. I hope your reward was well-spent. The parents of these children deserve congratulations. Relieved Oldie, Geelong West Bouquets to Geelong’s Pet Medical Crisis Fund. My cat went missing then came back with a broken leg. The cost to have it fixed was $2500 but the fund donated $1000. Kylie, Bell Park

Buckets to a person hogging space on a supermarket community noticeboard with multiple sheets of items for sale. Many of the listed items have been appearing on the board for months or longer. Buckets also to businesses using the noticeboard, which should only be for community groups and individuals. Shopper, Torquay Buckets to City of Greater Geelong’s blatant disregard of residents in areas with recently resealed roads, causing terrible untidiness and pollution. The City explained that it lacked the resources to use asphalt but council wants to spend money on a floating Christmas tree, a new pier and a Chinatown. Kathy, Geelong West Buckets to Kathy (Buckets & Bouquets, 18 April). I’m not surprised the “elderly man” told you to “Get f….d” when you tooted at him from behind. You probably scared him with your incorrect use of a vehicle horn, which should only be used for warnings, not expressions of frustration. Careful Driver, Highton

New eyes on crime in central city NEW surveillance cameras are watching for crime in central Geelong. Geelong’s council has used a $110,000 grant from the Department of Justice to install six more of the cameras to its central city network. Central Geelong Taskforce chair and councillor Michelle Heagney said the area now had 38 cameras after beginning with six cameras in 2004.

“We now have better coverage and better images,” she said. “And it’s thanks to these cameras that the police have not only been able to identify and prosecute offenders, but intervene and prevent crimes before they happen.” Cr Heagney said the expansion of the camera network would make people feel safer on the streets.

“I want to increase the number of people living in the city, making it a safer, more vibrant, mixed use space. “Over the next 14 years our goal is to more than double the number of people living and studying in central Geelong.” “These people need to feel safe. It’s reassuring to know there’s a pair of eyes at the police station keeping watch over our streets.”
