Grand final victory for TNT CHRISTOPHER BENNETT Tewantin Noosa Cricket Club U16B finished off a fantastic year at the weekend by winning the premiership at Read Park, the home of the Thunder. The team lost only one game during the 10 round home and away season and confirmed that dominance against Glasshouse on Sunday.

Glasshouse won the toss and sent TNT into bat under threatening skies that promised to help their fast bowlers. Tristan Griffin, 45, and Zach Lange, 23, scoring at 7 runs an over, got the home team off to a flying. The loss of the first wicket heralded a middle order slump as the team lost four wickets for 40 runs, but sensible batting from Nicholas Bennett, 64, and aggressive innings from Adam Waldron, 31, and Coen Brough, 21, helped the team reach 8/234 off their 55 overs. Batting second Glasshouse were never able to keep up with the required run rate as tight bowling and excellent fielding choked the batsmen of scoring opportunities. When the long and patient opening

stand was broken in the 23rd over they had only 68 runs on the board with their best batsman back in the shed. From then Glasshouse regularly lost wickets and, despite a late flurry of runs from the lower order, were well short at 9/191 at the close. TNT spin bowler Jacob Richardson was the star of the attack with 3/33.

He was well supported by the rest of the bowlers with Coen Brough and Nicholas Bennett also capturing two wickets. This grand final victory was a fitting end for the six TNT players who will move to senior player ranks next season. The TNT U12B and U14B teams will be playing their grand finals next weekend.

First grade were away to Glasshouse and were sent in on difficult looking pitch. Wickets fell regularly and only 118 was able to be posted. However, the home side fared similarly and were in trouble early. Great pressure in the field saw the home side in real trouble and were 9/91. Unfortunately a few difficult chances weren’t held and Glasshouse sneaked past the total and then took the long handle, riding their luck and established a 90 run lead before the last wicket could be taken. The second innings fared a little better but again the Thunder were bowled out for an under par 167. The home side made short work of this to secure an outright win. 2nd grade were at home also to Glasshouse. The visitors won the toss and batted. It was a much improved effort in the field and they were restricted to 155. Captain Brendan Aufderheide had the best figures with 4/37. In response at stumps on the first day we were 2/30. Day 2 however, started disastrously and the final 7 wickets fell for only 37 more runs. A quick flurry by Glasshouse saw a declaration at 6/64 and an ambitious target of 159 to win off 30 overs. And the boys gave it a really good shake but couldn’t quite hang on being

bowled out 30 runs short with 5 overs left in the day. 3rds were at home to second-placed Caboolture. Surprisingly we were sent in to bat after losing the toss, a decision they soon regretted as Reece Langan (70) and Phil Drescher (78) being the main contributors to a 249 run total. Special mention to Jai Baker and Jesse Russell putting on 26 runs for the last wicket despite a barrage of bouncers. In response the visitors were in real trouble at stumps at 4/78. Day 2 started in perfect fashion for the Thunder with 2 wickets in the first 3 overs and the balance being picked up in the first hour for a 132 run lead. Luke Anstey picked up 2 wickets, Phil Drescher 2 and a run out and Reece Langan 2 to go with his 5 catches. Batting again Phil Drescher again showed his class smashing 131 runs to complete a brilliant match for him. It was a good win to end the season on. 5th grade were up against it against Palmwoods, the runaway ladder leaders. The home side batted first and posted a reasonable 212 run total. Pick of the bowlers was Morgan Horn and Charlie Chaplin with 3 each and Bronson Horn with 2. The first day finished at 2/43 and a reasonable chance of chasing them down. Day 2 started well with Gary Madsen (52) and John Norden (44) continuing where they left off. Unfortunately there wasn’t much resistance after them and the tail was wrapped up for 160. Palmwoods had no intention of looking for an outright result and batted out the day, which unfortunately meant us missing out on the top 4 and a finals spot.

Phil Drescher again showed his class smashing 131 runs to complete a brilliant match.
