By LACHLAN MOORHEAD THE money raised from a rally honouring the memory of a Pakenham mum found dead in her home last year will go towards her baby son’s education. The domestic violence rally is being organised by childhood friends of Maddison MurphyWest after reports emerged last month that she was allegedly physically abused in the year before her mystery death in October 2013. The rally will be held on Saturday 22 March at Casey Fields from 11am to 5pm. The proceeds will be put into a trust for Maddy’s son Noah, who recently turned two and is currently in the custody of Maddy’s mother, Paula. Over $2000 has already been donated to Noah’s trust. Maddy’s aunt, Kelly Murphy, said her family had been incredibly overwhelmed by the community’s response to their tragedy. “The fund started as a bank account that Paula wanted to set up for Noah’s schooling,” Kelly said. “We need to make sure he has every chance.” Kelly said she had also been a victim of abuse and encouraged others in the community to come together at Maddy’s rally later this month. “The last few months have been horrific for us, we’ve all tried to hold it together, but the

Maddy’s friends Sarah Feubel and Chantelle Beatty have organised the rally, supported by the City of Casey and the Domestic Violence Resource Centre. Information on domestic abuse and how to find help will be provided for people at the rally, while live music and a sausage sizzle will also take place on the day. The body of 20-year-old Maddison was found at her Ahern Road home on 23 October last year. Police are investigating
whether the crime scene was manipulated to look like suicide. “Our lives changed forever and will never be the same, we’re a close-knit family,” Kelly said. “We used to spend every Christmas, every birthday and every occasion together - Maddy’s always been there.” To contribute to the rally, and for more information, visit the Rally for Maddy Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ groups/417185728427818/ For information and support on domestic violence contact 1800RESPECT or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
