Little Joseph saw a dream in his sleep one night. When he woke up in the morning, he ran downstairs to his father, Prophet Jacob.

He was so excited to tell his father all about his wonderful dream. 4

5

Joseph said happily, “I saw a beautiful dream last night!” “What did you see my son?” Prophet Jacob asked lovingly. “I saw eleven stars, the sun, and the moon! They were all bowing to ME!” Joseph replied. 6

7

Joseph was a very handsome young boy. He was always very gentle and kind. His father Prophet Jacob loved him deeply, more than anyone else in the world did.

“This dream means you will have a wonderful future!” Prophet Jacob said. “Joseph please don’t tell your brothers about your dream. They might get jealous and hurt you! The devil is our enemy, and he can whisper to people the most evil thoughts!’ 8

9

Joseph had ten older brothers and one younger brother named Benjamin. Joseph’s older brothers did not like him at all. They were very jealous of him because their father favored little Joseph the most. 10

11

“Why does father love Joseph so much?” One of the brothers asked the rest of them ANGRILY. “Maybe it’s because he’s so handsome!” Another brother replied. “WE SHOULD JUST KILL HIM!” Another brother suggested. “Then our father’s heart will be filled with love for us alone.”

12

13

“There is no need to kill him”, The older brother said. “We can get rid of him or throw him in a well far away from here. Maybe someone will find him and take him away forever. That way, when Joseph is gone, our father will give us his full attention!” “Yes, that’s a good plan! We should get rid of him!” the brothers agreed. “Then we will ask Allah, the One, and Only God, to forgive us, and become good people once again.” 14

15

The next day, Joseph’s older brothers went to Prophet Jacob to carry out the first step of their plan. “Oh father! Why do you never let Joseph go out with us to play and enjoy himself?” They asked him. “We are his older brothers. Don’t you trust us with him?” 16

17

“It will make me sad if you take him away” Prophet Jacob replied. “I’m scared a wolf might eat him while you’re not looking.” “We are a group of strong men father! Not losers!” The brothers said. “Don’t worry, we will guard him and take care of him!” 18

19

Prophet Jacob finally agreed to let Joseph go out with his brothers for a picnic. They took him to a far desert, and then stopped beside a well saying they needed to drink some water. 20

21

Suddenly, one of them put his arms around Joseph and held him tight. Another one of them removed Joseph’s shirt, and then they all lifted him up and threw him in the deep well.

Joseph begged them not to go, but they still threw him away and left. They took his shirt and covered it with fake blood.

“NO! DON’T LEAVE ME!” He yelled. 22

23

“What happened?” Prophet Jacob asked them when they came home. “Why are you all crying? And where is Joseph?” “Oh father! We went racing and left Joseph by our stuff. A wolf ate him while we were gone! But you will never believe us, will you?” (Based on meaning of Surat Yusuf Chapter 12 Verse 17 Holy Qur’an) 24

25

The ten brothers lied to their father, Prophet Jacob. They said a wolf ate Joseph while they were busy racing. They knew their father would not believe them, so they gave him Joseph’s shirt. 26

27

“Look! Isn’t this Joseph’s shirt?” They asked Prophet Jacob. “We found it covered in blood. There was a wolf nearby, and Joseph was nowhere to be found! The wolf ate Joseph!” THEY ALL LIED. 28

29

“How did the wolf eat Joseph without ripping his shirt?” Prophet Jacob asked. The brothers’ faces turned red. Their father knew they were lying. Parents always know when their children lie. He asked them more questions, but still they never said the truth. 30

31

“It’s a story you all made up.” Prophet Jacob said, with eyes full of tears. “I ask Allah, the One, and Only God, to give me patience. In Allah alone I believe and trust.” Prophet Jacob knew his son Joseph was alive and well. He promised himself he would stay patient until Allah shows him the truth. 32

33

In the dark well, Joseph managed to find a stone ledge to hold onto. Joseph was a very brave boy and did not cry, even though he was all alone. He spent his time inside the well praying to Allah for help. 34

35

A caravan of men on camels and horses were traveling to Egypt. The group stopped by the well for some water. One of the men lowered his bucket, and Joseph grabbed tight onto it. When the man felt the bucket was too heavy, he peeped inside the well and found a young boy calling for help. 36

37

“Better give me a hand there, fellows!” He called his other friends. “Looks like I found us a treasure in this well!” His friends all came to help. Joseph held tight onto the rope and they pulled him out of the deep well. 38

39

“Wow! This is the most beautiful boy I’ve ever seen!” One of the men said when he saw Joseph. “We can sell him for a lot of money!” The men took Joseph away with them to Egypt, and a new story began.
