ENALTY KICK The A.H.S.Boys' Varsity Soccer tea m scored well in 1993. The Varsity record was 12-5 and the Junior Varsity soccer record was 7-4-1. Tryouts were held four times a week after school and on the last day the students were notified by coaches SameerTahboub and Andy Railing whether they made the Varsity team or JV team. Practices consisted oflongjogs around Jouett and on the trails through the woods, as well as drills involving kicking, dribbling, and scoring.

Said one team member, "The manager was very helpful and cool." The Varsity team was lead by Geoff Hayden, Dan Kirwan, and Brian Smith, and for JV Craig Settimo, Dave Guerrant, Matt Eppard, and a different captain every week. Soccer players admit there are superstitions about preparing for their games. "We always like to put our clothes and equipment on the same way and tape our ankles too," one player noted.

One major source of motivation for soccer players is to think of how much they hate losing and district rivalry. The soccer teams were very happy about therr seasons and hope they have a good one next year. • Samantha Wang
