Fourie explained th e company is 70 per cent along in its plan to implement stage four water restrictions should the need arise in the festive season. This would involve using tankers to bring in water from alternate sources. “We would have to initiate this at very short notice, so we advise customers to register with Siza to receive update messages,” said Fourie. Hesaidthereisgreywateravailable

He said a plan for the holidays will be released in the second week of December. Mdabe said Ndwedwe is likely to be the most affected, but supply is being augmented via water tankers. Madabe said the Mvotshane Dam and river that supplies KwaDukuza is under severe strain, and that Tugela river levels have also dropped. Sembcorp Siza Water technical manager Kobus Fourie said the company has advertised the shortages broadly, and have implemented a 30 per cent reduction NEXT TO STUDIO ONE and stage three reEVERYDAY SPECIALS strictions in recent 1/4 Jumbo Mutton Burger Mutton weeks. HE Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) will be a great thing for Ballito, residents agreed at a public meeting at the Ballito Library on Friday. This comes despite private opposition. UIP representatives, KwaDukuza Municipality representatives, local councillors, members of the public and business owners attended. At the meeting, UIP project manager Brian Wright said unless the projectisopenandtransparent, itwill not be sustainable. Following the positive meeting, the UIP steering committee will now lodge a formal application to the municipality to get the go ahead for the project. Wright said this will be submitted in the next couple of weeks, but as the

These challenges include “crime and grime” and the subsequent devalue of commercial and residential property and loss of business. ThesystemwillworkbyUIPrepre-

manage it alone. The question to ask yourself is - are you confident about putting money into Ballito in its current state?” said Wright. La Montagne body corporate member Thomas Groenewald praised the UIP. “The idea is excellent, pay a bit extra and have peace of mind. Let’s go for it,” he said. He added holiday clubs should alsobetargetedtocomeonboard.Glenda Thompson asked if recycling would get off the ground by the UIP. Wright said the priority was to clean up the town, but a recycling project was definitely on the cards down the line. Ward 6 councillor Colin Marsh said he was pleased the UIP was happening. “It has been a long road, but it is nowcomingtofruition.Itisawonderful concept. Some people object privately, but does Ballito want something or nothing? The UIP will offer a better level on management, which is sorely needed,” said Marsh. Although no one contested the UIP at the meeting, residents have privately expressed their displeasure to the Weekly. Some business owners feel the UIP is paying twice for services that should be provided by the municipality.

One businessman, who did not want to be named, said ratepayers would be paying heavily next year. “Rates are due to go up next year, there is a new rates act in the pipeline, and with UIP contributions on top of these, manypeoplearegoingtostruggle. “Most people don’t understand how it will work, Council should not engage with the UIP, but upgrade the town out of the annual budget,” he said. He added that developers have also spent millions in water and electricity bulk infrastructure contributions. The UIP project is being driven by the iLembe Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry, with the idea emerging under the auspices of former CEO Trenley Tilbrook in 2011. Although About 51 per cent in favour was needed, and about 60 per cent, 64 per cent of business value, have voted in support of the UIP to date. This following a R360 000 feasibility study funded by local property owners in 2012. The UIP contribution cost for commercial property owners is planned at R300 per month per R1 million in municipal assessed property value. The residential contribution, which is still under discussion, will be about R100 per month per R1 million in property value. “It is a difficult task to track all the residents down, as many do not live here, so this is the next phase and couldtaketime.Ourmaingoalistoget the body corporates on board,” said Wright.

Male menopause - fact or fiction

DR ENESHRA PADAYACHEE SPECIALIST UROLOGIST NETCARE ALBERLITO HOSPITAL

ISAJeyDavisoncewroteinherbookOr chids: “Icallthechangeoflife‘Orchids’be cause menopause is such an ugly word. It’s got men in it for God’s sakes.” I think it is for this very reason why I had to shed some light on the “male change in life” aptly known as male menopause or an dropause. As men, our bodies rely on the sex hor mone testosterone. It is important for our sexual and reproductive well being it’s

Keep ‘Screamer’ on longer For years our national soccer team has been the subject of ridicule simply because it failed to make us proud. AttimesBafanaBafanawouldfailto qualify for international showpieces and at other times they would be knocked out in the early stages of any such prestigious tournament, making the rest of us feel a little less patriotic about our boys. But it seems as if we have finally turned the corner after successfully qualifying for next year’s Afcon. So I would like to congratulate Mashaba and the boys for the great form that they have displayed ever since Screamer was introduced to the side.

what makes us men! Hormonal changes are a natural part of aging. Unlike the more dramatic reproduc tive hormone plunge that occurs in woman during menopause, sex hormone changes in men occurs gradually. Testosterone levels vary greatly among men. In general though, older men tend to have lower testosterone levels than do younger men. Testosterone levels gradually decline throughout adulthoodroughly about 1% a year after the age of 30 on average. So how does “male menopause” present itself? In those men who do present to their lo cal doctor they may present largely with: diminished sexual function: this might in clude erectile dysfunction and reduced sex ual function. Physical body changes: this may include an increase in body fat and reduced muscle bulk and strength. One may also have an in creased tendency to fractures due to a de

creased bone density. There is also an in creased tendency for hair loss (balding). Emotional changes: this may vary from trouble concentrating or remembering things to loss of self confidence and depres sion. Changes in sleep patterns: This again may vary from insomnia to increased sleepiness. If you are experiencing these signs and symptoms, this may be as a result of a low testosterone level and you should consult your doctor. Heorshecanevaluatethepossiblecaus es for the way you feel, and explain the dif ferent treatment options out there. Over the next few weeks I will cover a range of urology health related topics aim ing to educate our community about healthy living. Dr. Enesh Padayachee is a specialist urologist who has commenced practice at Netcare Alberlito Hospital, Ballito (032 946 6931 or email:epurology@gmail.com).

Qualifying is the first step and the boys still have a long road ahead when the tournament kicks off next year January. The road to the finals will notbesmoothsailingforthem but I am certain that all of us will be behind them all the way. My request from my fellow countrymen is, regardless of the boys’ performance next year, early knock out, or allowingthetitletoslipfromour fingers, could we, this time around, pleaseallowScreamer Shabalala to stay on longer as the national coach? Can we please build a lasting relationship with our coach and not rush to call for his replacement if Bafana

SINCE the approval of the new sewer charges I have been inundated with calls for action against iLembe. Despite me highlighting the impact the new tariff will have in the local media, little consideration was given. Now residents are saddled with huge monthly bills on sewer charges and want iLembe to review its position in the adjustments in January 2015, and can wait no longer. Simply put it is not affordable and people are struggling to meet high demands. Compared to Siza Water, residents of Ballito and surrounding areas pay a R106 ba-

months apart. I was also divorced a few years later. My woes were exacerbated by turning 30, and this is sort of the point of this little tale: don’t ignore things. You will struggle to find a doctor who listens to you, because they generally don’t. I was eventually put on the depo to try and halt the constant bleeding, which didn’t work. After two years of this, I called halt. I found a new doctor, and was instantly diagnosed with fibroids, and booked for surgery. Unfortunately my lapwasn’tasuccess,soIwillprobably have to have a hysterectomy in the near future. I can probably draw parallels between my miscarriages and fibroids, I choose not to. Sing “Let it go” with me. As a young woman, it’s difficult to wrap my mind around never carrying children again, probably due to a fair amount of societal pressure. I mean it’s sort of the seat of my femininity that’s going to be yanked out, isn’t it? I am sad on one hand, but on the other I would love to have my quality of life back. So I’ve decided to be candid about it, in the hope that my tale makes just one woman think enough, that she may drive her own behind to a doctor, and get help. You don’t have to live with crazy symptoms, you don’t have to suffer in silence, and life sans reproductivecapabilityislookingpretty darn good at this stage! Farewell to thee, uterus. I don’t think we ever liked each other much, butwehada50%successrateforyour intended purpose. I’ll take that pass mark, thanks. -Jahni Cowley

tive bending or lifting of heavy objects. Slipped disc is another condition which is responsible for back pain. This happens when the cartilage disc of the vertebrae wear out and press any nerve root. If the sciatica nerve root, located at the lower spine region gets pressed then it leads to chronic lower back pain that often gets extended to the legs and is accompanied by numbness. Elderly people suffer from chronic back pain due to osteoarthritis affecting the spine, chronic back pain may get triggered by stress and anxiety. The involvement of emotional stress causes disc degeneration or herniation. Prolonged emotional stress creates a sympathetic dominant state in autonomic nervous system and leads to decreased blood flow to most of the organs, muscles and peripheral tissues. When blood flow to the lumber muscles is decreased, the muscles become tight, loose flexibility and are easi-

ly fatigued. Treatment with acupuncture Acupuncture enhances blood circulation especially in the area that there is pain or discomfort. When circulation in the tissue improves, muscle relaxation occurs and immediate pain reduction occurs in many cases. In some other cases, however, when circulation improves, the painintheaffectedareaintensifies and is then followed by repair of tissue and muscle relaxation. Proper circulation in the tissue is important not only for blood to nourish the tissue but also in enhancing the elimination of muscle fatigue and pain causing substances (eg. Lactic acid) thus resulting in healthy tissue. Acupuncture, cupping therapy and therapeutic massage offers great relief for your back pain. If other therapy has failed then may be its time you tried acupuncture. We can help you lead a painfreelifenaturallywithoutanysideeffects. "This study shows something in terestingpatients'eczemaimproved regardless whether they saw the doc tor for followup in the office or com municated online," said one expert not connected to the study, Dr Gary Goldenberg of New York City. The new technology "gives pa tients another valuable option of communicating with their doctor," said Goldenberg. The new study was led by Dr. April Armstrong of the University of Colora do, Denver, and published online in the journal JAMA Dermatology. The study included 156 adults and children with eczema, 78 received typical inperson, followup care, while 78 received online followup

care. The patients in the online care group sent photos of skin outbreaks to dermatologists, who evaluated the photos, made treatment recommen dations and prescribed medications. After one year, clearance or near clearance of eczema was achieved by almost 44 percent of patients who re ceived inperson care and more than 38 percent of those who received on line care only. The findings show that online der matology services could help improve access to care in the United States at atimewhentherearenotenoughder matologists to meet demand, the re searchers said. According to Goldenberg, Web based care, "would be especially im portant for patients that live in rural areas or those that have transporta tion issues."

WEEKLY Don't let migraines ruin your holidays PLAN ahead, keep meds handy and make time to cuddle, expert advise if you're prone to migraines during the holidays. The holidays can challenge the estimated30millionmigrainesufferersintheUnited States as they try to deal with crowds, travel delays, stress and other potential headache triggers. Even if you don't get the debilitating headaches, there's a good chance you have loved ones who do. Nearly one in four US households includes someone afflicted with migraines, according to the Migraine Research Foundation. There are a number of ways to cope with migrain es during the holidays, said David Yeomans, director of pain research at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Along with knowing and trying to avoid your mi graine triggers, you need to be prepared to deal with a headache. Light sensitivity, changes in sleep pat terns, and certain foods and smells all common mi graine triggers might be harder to avoid during the holiday season. What does an expert suggest? "When you've got family over or are at a loved one's home, it can be tricky to adjust your normal habit or routine," Yeomans said in a news release. "What I often suggest is putting together an emer gency migraine kit just in case antiinflammatory drugs, prescribed migraine medicine, an eye mask or ear buds, and antinausea medication. Being pre pared can perhaps save the day." Family and friends may help solve the problem It's also important for migraine sufferers to rely on their support network of family and friends. "Asking the host of the party or gathering if they have a quiet bedroom or place to let the pain subside for awhile may not be a big deal if you make sure they understand where you're coming from ahead of time," Yeomans said. "You don't have to place so much stress on your self worrying about what others may think if you have a strong support system in place that is flexible and understanding of your needs." Cuddling may also work Cuddling with loved ones can help too, he said. "When you snuggle up to a loved one, your body naturallyproducesahormonecalledoxytocin, affec tionately nicknamed the 'love hormone,'" Yeomans said. "The remarkable ability of oxytocin to ward off pain is still being explored, and there are treatments ... that are currently being studied that utilise this hormone specifically for migraine pain."

FORD has underscored its growing ambitionsintheMiddleEastandAfrica (including South Africa) with what it calls "the dramatic introduction of the new Mustang" on Dubai's Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. It's not the first time the automaker has used this building on its own “island” just off one of Dubai's beaches. Ford's executive chairman Bill Ford capped the event by delivering the iconic pony badge to the 2015 yellow Mustang on the 112th floor of the skyscraper. The Mustang was not helicoptered in — it had to be assembled on the deck at the top of the building. Bill Ford said: "Today we planted the Ford flag in the Middle East and Africa — an exciting, vibrant region that represents the final frontier for growth intheautoindustry.Wealsosentamessage to the world that the Mustang is going global after 50 years as America's greatest motoring icon."

airliner, car, helicopter and jet ski to Dubai to deliver the pony badge. Only in the final scene on the 112th floor of the Burj Khalifa - 399m above the ground — was the protagonist revealed — Bill Ford, great-grandson of company founder Henry Ford. Jim Benintende, president of Ford Middle East and Africa, said: "A century ago Henry Ford had a vision to open the highways to all mankind. Placing ourregionalheadquartersinDubailets us tap the innovation and imagination that's flourishing here, helping us to bring our founder's vision to this part of the world." In addition to the Mustang, Ford announced a plan to introduce new vehicles such as the Ford Focus, Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKC in the Middle East and Africa. For the first time in its 50-year history the Ford Mustang will be available in a factory-built, righthand-drive configuration. It will be available in South Africa. — Wheels24.
