ing on because no one will tell us. “Allweknowisthatwehavenolecturers and we are losing ground fast.” As of Monday, students have been without a large number of subject lecturers for four weeks. Spokespersonforthecampus Sam Zungu declined to comment saying the matter is sub judice.

OCAL African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) councillor Pastor Nel Sewraj recently had the privilege of addressing leaders from 46 nations at the Global Leaders Summit held in Malaysia. The Global Leaders Summit, an international leaders conference held annually in Malaysia, this year recorded an attendance of more than 1000 religious, community and business leaders from across the nations. He said the summit has always interested him because it is focused primarily on national transformation. “In fact, it was through this summit that I got involved in politics and the ACDP back in 2010.” The Global Leaders Summit was

hosted by international speaker Dr Jonathan David who is well known in Malaysia as a statesman, church leader and entrepreneur. Sewraj said he shares a special relationship with Dr David for many years. “Dr David has been my mentor from 2008. I was humbled when he asked me to present a one hour session on the church’s involvement in politics.” Sewraj presented a session called ‘Penetrating the Political Domain’. In this session he explained how Groundbreakers, the church he pastors in Ballito, became politically active and socially relevant. Mexican political leaders attending the summit have invited him to speak to their politicians in Mexico next year.

If everyone is aware and does their part, beaches will be cleaner. The public must play its role and notify authorities if they see pollution,” she said.

BusinessCLUB with Ilembe Chamber AS there have been a number of requests by business owners for more short, stimulating and to-the-point business learning opportunities, the Ilembe Chamber decided to step in with this solution. The BusinessCLUB will kick off with four 90 minute sessions themed “Get Ahead”. Chamber CEO Cobus Oelofse said in opening that providing information to business owners is very much a role of the chamber. “We aim to help local businesses run effectively and act as a resource, whichiswherethisgreatworkshopfits in. People should get as excited about busines as about hobbies and religion,” said Oelofse. Chris Smith from Action Coach said in upon starting the workshop that he sees again and again that business men and women are not doing the basics that they should be doing in their companies. “We all want more time and more money, and to achieve this we need to PHOTO: SHANNON HOPKINS educate ourselves about the tools of Action Coach’s Chris Smith, Nobuhle Funda and Ilembe Chamber CEO Cobus business and how we should apply Oelofse. them. “Many people are not reading up on to find out, not only “what” you need to cash flow and profit, sales and finantheir fields, but just relying on experi- know to get ahead in business, but also cial mastery. Bang and gaps enjoy the democratic right to debate RE: Ripostes and reprimands from Messrs. Naidoo and Smith. As far as insults on education standards go, I will be the first to admit there are gaps in my own understanding of life, the universe and everything. The more I learn the less I realise I know; but to quote Carl Sagan's wife when he died: “He didn't want to believe, he wanted to know.” My main theme in my previous letter was that evolution has nothing to do with racism, which I still stand by. Re: My bad debating attitude - personal attacks and mockery - I have an irreverent sense of humour and have always disrespected piety

and dogma. Over the years this has evolved into a totally incurable, full-blown satirical sense of humour compounded by my addiction to such British institutions as Monty Python. Thecurrentcreationismvsevolutiondebate has been simmering in the Fever and Weekly letters column for several years since a previous editor (Desiree) wrote a satirical article ridiculing Darwinism which I found amusing and felt compelled to respond in kind. Long may the debates continue - there are many countries which would not allow us this freedom to argue religion or politics. David Lawson

Following the ‘big bang’ argument IT would appear from recent correspondence to your newspaper that Mr Lawson is not exactly flavour of the month at the moment. Having read his letter in the Fever I find very little to criticise in it. He was simply pointing out that one of the principal characters in the Old testament was not a particularly moral or pleasant person.

The 10 Commandments were obviously meant for the common people. As for Ms Naidoo's assertion that dinosaurs were plodding around planet Earth when the first books of the Old Testament were composed, is plainly preposterous and against all reason. Peter Hill

Support for KDM’s decision I REFER to the story ‘ANC KwaDukuza sides with Palestine’ published last week. Councillor Nel Sewraj is on the wrong side of history. Palestine is an occupied stolen land whose citizens are subjected to the most inhuman conditions. How can it ever be accepted that a criminal could justify his crime by claiming that he was defending himself when committing the crime? Israel has no respect for the many UN resolutions or the judgment of the International Criminal Court. Palestinians have the right to claim back their land and freedom.

ItisthePalestiniansthathavetherighttodefend themselves against a most brutal occupation. If Cllr Nel is really concerned about justice and freedom he should visit Palestine as the ANC has done. We who support the cause of the Palestinians salute the stance of the ANC and appreciate the support of the KwaDukuza Municipality and the mayor Ricardo Mthembu. Aluta Continua Viva Palestine.

Celebrating strong women I

HAVE been surrounded by strong females all my life. My mom being my first role model. While con templating national Women’s Month, my thoughts turned to her, and to the other strong women who have shaped my life. My mom could do everything. She was widowed very young, but her simple “can do” attitude tackled any challenge, whether fixing a lawn mower or a bicy cle tyre or turning a variety of summer fruit into jams, chutneys, preserves and dried fruit. She was a woman who, with the scantiest of re sources, ensured all four of us completed a tertiary education, evenifitmeantthatshewentwithoutany luxuries and treats for many years. She taught me that a superwoman isn’t born, she just accepts all the challenges thrown her way. My two sisters remain my constant reminders of my mom. Therearetimeswhenoneofuswillsayordosome thing and the instant reminder of our mother is so strong, that we can’t help but laugh and recognise her legacy. My sisters are my daughters’ “go to” people, who arejustaphonecallawayfromofferingasympathetic ear or some advice. My motherinlaw is still a big role model for our family. At over 80, she is still a force to be reckoned with. She lives in a big house, which is kept spotless without any help. She knows exactly how to cook the perfect roast lamb or chicken, her array of homebaked biscuits are legendary and she knows exactly what happens on the local and international news scene.

Who’s the liar KDM or SMA? WEEKLY MY stance concerning the recent Palestine solidarity march in KwaDukuza has already been clarified publicly. Therefore, I will deliberate the matter no further. Subsequently there is another matter arising out of this march that may beofconcerntotheratepayersofKwaDukuza.Itwasreported that the march received significant media coverage and many civic bodies, various organisations and over 2000 peoplesupportedit. Also, theANCandthemayorapplauded the event, KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) contributed R80 000 towards it, and someone presumptuously claimed that it was largest march in KwaDukuza in recent history. Yet, what is of concern to me is that in the midst of the apparent success of the event, no person or organisation wants to take responsibility for it. Let me elaborate. The Palestine solidarity march was an item tabled in the 11th hour at a council meeting on 31 July. The item stated explicitly that the Stanger Muslim Association (SMA) approached the Office of the Mayor and requested to hold the march. So according to KDM the march was clearly the initiative and brainchild of the SMA. However, it is cause for concern that the SMA has subsequently stated quite the opposite. As a case in point, the public relations officer for the SMA has openly stated that the march was the initiative of KDM alone – not the SMA, and that the SMA was only re-

quested by KDM to plan and co-ordinate the march. Now someone is not telling the truth. Either KDM or the SMA is a liar. If KDM has lied and concealed details about this matter, it would seriously damage the municipality’s credibility. Ratepayers will blame KDM for misusing public funds, municipal officials and Exco for corruption, and the mayor for attempting to improve his ratings with the Muslim community. If the SMA has lied, they put their veracity as a religious organisation at stake. The community will lose faith in the SMA and its leaders for their apparent failure to model truth and honesty as a religious organisation, and for manipulating KDM and the mayor to further the agenda of the SMA. Whatever the case may be, I refrain from making prejudgments on the matter — suffice to say, it is doubtless of serious concern that KDM approves and contributes finances for events that no one claims responsibility for. So KDM, and other organisations in this municipality, must stop assuming that all ratepayers in this municipality are naive and undiscerning. Many of us are not even aware of the copious amounts of sugar we’re consuming because manufactures are just so cunning. Aside from benefitting from an active lifestyle, she probably walks right passed the artificially sweetened yogurt and opts for the naturally flavoured one instead. 5. Eat fruit Yes, as boring as it sounds, fruit offers all the sweetness your body needs. In addition to instantly satisfying your sugar craving, the natural fibre within the fruit also keeps your

blood sugar levels from rising. 6. Get more Zzzz... Getting a proper night’s rest could also help. How, you may be speculating? Sleeping naturally decreases anxietyandariseinstress, oftenleads to a rise in your cravings. 7. Walk it off Have you heard of the feel-good hormone, serotonin? Next time, scrap the dessert and go for a walk after dinner. The physical activity will raise your serotonin levels, the same way sugar does. - Women24

Four steps to rocking bold eyebrows MORE is definitely more when it comes to brows. Made popular by Brooke Shields in the Nineties, the bushy, bold brow trend is now, yet again. The main catalysts upping its popularity in 2014 are of course ‘It’ BritishmodelsCaraDelevingneandJourdan Dunn. Want to know how to rock this look without going to the beauty

salon? Here are four easy tips: 1. Put down your tweezers Yes, that means let it grow, let it grow, let it grow...It might be difficult for you to avoid reaching for the tweezers at first, so make sure you have a very strong will from the outset. 2. Grooming Growing out your brows is defi-

nitelynotwithoutitsownproblemsas they may get that dishevelled look rather quickly. Tame your brows by using a brow brush (you can always use an old, clean mascara brush) or use brow gel to keep them in place. 3. Fill and shape them Useaneyepencilinbrownorblack to fill in your already existing brow frame. Make it look more natural by

applying feathery, light strokes instead of being too heavy-handed. 4.Goforthealmostmake-upfree look Go for a freshed-face, barely-there make-up look with bold brows. Wear mascara, a light foundation and a tinted gloss on your lips for a bit of colour. - Women24

Exercise: Benefits of regular physical activity 1: Exercise controls weight Exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss. When you engage in physical activity, you burn kilojoules. The more intense the activity, the more kilojoules you burn. You don't need to set aside large chunks of time for exercise to reap

weight-loss benefits. If you can’t do an actual workout, get more active throughout the day in simple ways — by taking the stairs instead of the lift or revving up your household chores. 2: Exercise combats health conditions and diseases Worried about heart disease? How to trick your appetite HUNGRY, even after you've eaten? Put those longings on lockdown with these simple strategies. Ifyourstomachisaccustomed to huge amounts of food, then of course, sticking to a diet plan is going to be tough. But you can fight back. Follow these simple tricks and make weight loss a reality… 1. Considering seconds? Wait a bit. Why it works: Your tummy needs between 10 and 20 minutes to register that it’s full, so before you dash for another helping of lasagne, drink a glass of water first. Still hungry after the delay? Then by all means, eat and be merry. But skip the pasta and go for the vegetables and salad instead. 2. Start your day with protein. No, really! Why it works:Protein keeps you fuller for longer so filling up at breakfast time will help keep you satiated, making it less likely that you’ll binge lateronintheday.Notafanofegg whites? Don’t let your fussiness deter you. Other good sources of lean protein include low-fat yogurt, tuna, chicken breast, ham and turkey. 3. Ditch the dinner dish. Whyitworks:It’sallaboutportion control, darlings! And choosing a salad or side plate guarantees a smaller serving. But remember, less food at one sitting does not mean you havetowalkawayfromthetable still feeling hungry. Instead of your typical three gigantic meals, switch to eating snack-sized servings, five or six times per day. 4. Sit down when you eat. Make this a rule! Whyitworks:Sittingdownnot only means that you are more likely to eat unrushed (which, in turn, gives your brain a chance to register when it’s full),butitalsoallowsyoutobe mindful about your meal so you can relish in the different tastes and aromas, and focus on your eating habits. - Women24

It's been a good couple of years now and Terese says that she is glad that she opened her own salon because she really enjoys being her own boss. A few simple items in your wardrobe can help you look chic, yet comfortable, no matter what the weather.

S

PRING is a time for new beginnings, but what do you wear when it’s all four seasons in one day? The key to stylish transitional dressing is layering. A few simple items in your wardrobe can help you look chic, yet comfortable no matter what the weather. Here are suggestions and how to wear them:

Lightweight jacket A lightweight jacket is easy to throw over a dress, toporblouse.Selectastylethatcaneasily be dressed up or down to get maximum wearablity. For example, a lightweight neutralcoloured jacket can be dressed up with a skirt or dressed down with jeans. The perfect style and fabric will depend on your lifestyle. If you are a casual dresser, a denim jacket will work well, but if you wear mostly tailored styles, a stretch cotton-lined jacket may work better. Closed or peep-toe shoe When the weather is too chilly to wear sandals, but too warm to wear boots, the closed-toeshoesavestheday.Tryafashionable brogue or ballet pump for flats or a high-heeled pump, wedge or stacked heel if you want some extra height. Neutral tops A few simple neutral coloured tops (e.g. black or navy) will make layering really simple and stylish. If your favourite sleeveless dress is going to leave you out in the cold, add a neutral top underneath. As long as the style of the dress is conducive to layering, it will give you a lot more wear throughout year. Three-quarter-sleeve length Three-quarter sleeves are great for in-between seasons, not to mention that they offer upper arm coverage. Three-quarter sleeves also allow clever and fun layering. You can create the colour-blocking look by wearing one colour underneath and another on top. If you haveatopthatlooksabitworseforwear, simply add another one on top with a shorter sleeve length. — Women24.

The #Fatkini revolution DO you think you don't have a bikini body? Well think again. Women are constantly told to work on their bikini bodies, almost as if their lives depended on it. Flip through any celebrity magazine or browse any women’s lifestyle website and you’ll find articles and galleries providing tips and easy tricks on getting beach-ready – especially come summer. And don’t forget the magnitude of image galleries on Hollywood’s top celebrity bikini bodies. In fact, there are entire magazines whose existence is built solely on the spying, spotting, blaming and praising of celebs in swimsuits. But what does beach-ready or the perfect bikini body actually even mean? We know that in the mainstream media it refers to the one body we have been taught to value above all others — the slim, young celebrity or model figure. This is extremely marginalising as it automatically dubs other bodies as “problematic” or “fixable”. Are you fed up with society telling them to cover up (and with the rise of beautifully made plus-size beach wear for women), curvy women around the world are now taking to the beach snapping and sharing pictures of themselves on social media using the hashtag #Fatkini. Let’s face it, watching skinny women frolic on the beach in multi-coloured and patterned bikinis as you lie (fully clothed) on your towel, sweating your ass off, is just no fun. The hashtag has created conversation around the topic of redefining the term “beachbody” or “bikini body”, looking at its harsh policy of exclusion. It has since ushered in camaraderie between women encouraging each other to stop feeling self-conscious, barred or judged for wearing a bikini in public.

Early Christmas for pupils

JYOTHI LALDAS CHRISTMAS came early this year for the pupils at Sakhesethu Primary in Mandeni in the form of clothing and underwear from Durban-based clothing manufacturer, Jockey. The Jockey team, led by Jockey marketing associate Natalie Bennie, handed over R40 000 worth of products to the principal Mr Nene, who accepted it on behalf of the pupils. Also present at the handover was the Mandeni mayor, Siphesihle Zulu,

members of the school governing board and teachers. The joy on their faces could not be hidden by the young pupils who danced and sang for their guests in a show of appreciation. “Jockey is proud to make this donation to the pupils of Sakhesethu Primary as part of our social responsibility campaign, and to see the joy that it brought to everyone makes our trip to Mandeni that much more meaningful and worthwhile,” said Bennie.

Lunga Ntuli with his latest book.

E is only 26 years old, but this North Coast sports enthusiast, motivational speaker, journalist and author has achieved a lifetime’s work. Lunga Ntuli has just completed his third book, which will officially be launched at the end of the month. The book, Why Men cheat and Women Do it Better, is a frank discussion about cheating, offering insight into why men and women cheat, tips on how to know if your partner is cheating, how each gender goes about it, relationship no-nos and more. Ntuli said he was inspired to write the book as he has come across many people, often wealthy and respected people, who cheat on their partner.

HepostedacommentonFacebook on the issue, and due to the overwhelming response he received, he decided to write and self-publish a book. He was so inspired that the book took just 12 days to write. “I just started asking myself why people cheat as it is very hurtful. I wanted to offer solutions to help people deal with it. “The book is an easy, entertaining read that uses sports analogy to describe the various types of people or cheaters,” said Ntuli. Ntuli started from humble beginnings and has worked hard to unfurl his wings. Having grown up in rural North Coast areas, attending Shakaskraal Secondary and working as a car guard to earn money to study, he really has “come out on top”.

“If you work hard and believe in yourself you can achieve your dreams,” encouraged Ntuli. Strangely Ntuli never saw himself as a writer when growing up, but rather a sportsman. He received a cricket scholarship to attend Umlazi Comtech during his latter high school years and, after saving up, studied sports management at Durban University of Technology. He also studied sports psychology through Unisa, and will graduate with a Fifa sports management qualification through the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth soon. “I think it was my Grade 9 girlfriend who got me into writing. When she broke up with me I wrote her a six to eight-page love letter to win her heart back. “I don’t think she read all of it, but I realised I enjoyed writing,” said Ntuli. Ntuli has written sports articles and columns for local publications and popular and international online sites like goal.com He also won an award through Gsports for Girls in 2009 for promot-

ing women’s sport in South Africa after starting the Nkobongo women’s cricket team at just 19. Six of the women he coached were selected to represent the district, two for the province and one was given a scholarship to go to the Oprah Winfrey Academy. He was the first man to win the award. Ntuli published his first book, Love vs Sports, in 2011 after a newspaper he had written for closed and he was wondering what to do next. He said it was dubbed the first sports motivational book in the country. He sold his laptop to enable him to self-publish this first work. His second book came out in 2012. This time he wrote in isiZulu. The book was entitled Izimpandezempulelo - The Root of Success. Ntuli now lives in Nthembeni and has a child and a fiancée. He writes full time as well as doing sports mental coaching to keep athletes on top of their game. His fourth book is waiting to go to the printing press. Catch Ntuli at the book launch at Ekhaya Guesthouse, Ballito on 30 August at 2pm.

SST Volleyball Club avenged their first round league defeat at the hands of reigning champions Grove End with an emphatic 2-0 win in their second round encounter on Thursday night at the association courts. Grove End took an early 4-2 lead before KSST quickly leveled the scores at 5-5 to stay in the hunt for honours. It was dubbed a “Neil Perumal vs Cameron Singh showdown” as both players demonstrated their attacking prowess at the courts. Perumal gave Grove End a comfortable 13-9 lead, but Singh quickly snuffed out the lead with a flurry of attacks from power to level the scores at 13-13. KSST took a slender 19-18 before their prodigal son, Lionel Jali was introduced into the fray for Lloyd

Chetty. Trailing 20-24, Cyprin Tulsiram served the ball onto the net to give KSST a fluent 25-20 victory. Fans expected Grove End to introduce Viinie Singh at the start of the second set in the hope of turning the tide in their favour, but the talented youngster made a brief appearance midway into the second set. Grove End forged 11-8, but their lead was quickly swallowed up by a determined KSST outfit who leveled the scores at 13-13 before taking a commanding five-point cushion (1813). Grove End rallied back gamely to reduce the deficit to a mere twopoints (17-19) before man-of-thematch, Singh hammered a winner down the line to give KSST a hard earned25-23andkeeptheirleaguetitle aspirations alive.
