PREFACE

This portfolio covers my academic projects and professional projects that I participated from 2016 to 2022.These five projects respectively show my understanding of the relationship between architectural space and times from different perspectives. Factors include technology, society, function, landscape, and Iculture.amalways

fascinated by the pure spatial form of architecture, and I am also obsessed with putting it into people's lives. Meanwhile, I will keep trying to find out what possibilities these buildings have in different time and social backgrounds.

In my opinion, for different times or social backgrounds, the attitudes reflected by architecture are also different, some are trying to cater to, some are trying to change, and some are even extremely ironic. In these contexts, architecture may have gone beyond its original meaning, but what will never change is its huge impact on the world.

01# Hyper-Station

Urban Complex Design Based On Hyperloop Technology

Experiment Project without Site

Tutor: Lu Ye Individual Work

Background: The Hyperloop is a proposed mode of passenger and freight transportation, first used to describe an open-source vactrain design released by a joint team from Tesla and SpaceX. Hyperloop is described as a sealed tube or system of tubes with low air pressure through which a pod may travel substantially free of air resistance or friction. The Hyperloop could potentially convey people or objects at airline or hypersonic speeds while being energy efficient compared to existing high speed rail systems. This, if implemented, may reduce travel times compared to train and airplane travel over distances of under approximately 1,500 kilometres (930 miles).

Project: Based on the concept of vertical processing functions such as highrise buildings, and combined with the characteristics of Hyperloop, hyperloop stations can also handle the traffic inside the building vertically. In this way, the platform space can be more closely integrated with the functions, thus stimulating the vitality of the building's elder brother space and improving the efficiency of flow transmission.

HyperloopPAYLOADTech's cargocapsule will be about 70 feet long, big enough to hold a standard 40-foot intermodal container.Thecapsule should weigh about 68,000pounds and could oretically accelerate from zero to 750mph inless than a

fan on the front of the capsuleis what makes the hyperloop possible, transferring huge volumes of air away from the nose.Without it, the pod would be pushing all the air in front of it,like a syringe,or you'd have to spend big bucks on a bigger tube. Respect theKantrowitz limit-the top speed allowable given a tube-to-pod-area ratio.

BEARINGS

The capsule will ride on acushion of air pumped from the bottomof lunchtray-size sleds. Landing gear mayneed to be deployed as it comes to a stop.

The extremely low weight(3t/Pod) of hyperloops allows its tracks to be lifted much higher by light structures than any others railway transportation, so the location and form of the tubes are more flexible and free.

More Functions and Space in Hyperloop Station

With its near-sonic speeds, the Hyperloop is a nearly revolutionary improvement in transportation efficiency, requiring more pipelines, platforms and functions for the same station.

Arrival

Based on the concept of vertical processing functions such as high-rise buildings, and combined with the characteristics of Hyperloop, hyperloop stations can also handle the traffic inside the building vertically. In this way, the platform space can be more closely integrated with the functions, thus stimulating the vitality of the building's elder brother space and improving the efficiency of flow transmission.

Platform Typology

The Single-Tram platform is a basic plantform with some traffic functions and spaces. It saves spaces and is the prototype of other kinds of plantforms.

Through the close combination with the highway, passengers can quickly achieve the transformation of the means of transport.

Study of Platforms and Structure

As the flow of people increases, so does the number of tubes and the size of platforms. The Road-Crossed platform combines with the road more closely and has more traffic

Thespaces.Green

Park platform is a whole natrual view space. It provides the passengers, the visitors and the residents with the space where they can have outdoor activities.

The Green Gallery plantform combines art gallery and grass slopes with the hyperloop platform. People waiting for trams can enjoy the space and natrual views with the visitors and residents together.

The Playground Platform contains a soccer field and five runways. It mainly serves the passenger who come here for sport activities and the residents living in the complex.

In the 1870s, under the influence of the historical background and social background, in order to build more residential, office and commercial buildings in limited time and location, skyscrapers with new materials such as steel and other structural frames appeared in Chicago, gradually forming a simple and lively architectural style in Chicago. In such circumstance, Sullivan, an architect of the Chicago School, explicitly put forward the view that "Form Follows Function", which is the hallmark slogan of functionalists.

But this slogan, once exploited by functionalism, will lose its good will for existence and are seen as radical and outdated.

Form following function is put forward by Salliwen in a certain historical background, which is one-sided to a certain extent. When architectural space is defined by functional requirements, they are presented to people in an inherent form. However, when one of them is changed by the change of user requirements, the other should also be changed accordingly. Therefore, the dialectical relationship between space and function should be mutually influenced and defined.

02# Laminated Space

The Mutual Effect Between Space and Function

Location:Dushu Lake Campus of Soochow University

Tutor: Lingling Zhang Individual Work

Background: In today's society, a well-rounded university can be said to be a small and medium-sized community, which should be equipped with functional facilities to meet the needs of students' study and life. This includes not only dormitories, cafeterias and convenience stores to meet students' living needs, classrooms, laboratories and libraries to meet students' learning needs, but also places to meet students' activity needs, such as gymnasiums, small theaters and small exhibition halls. It is these functional Spaces above that constitute a complete university infrastructure.

Project: However, part of the above functions are missing in my campus and the remaining available land is very scarce. What I want to do is to complete the missing functions of this campus in the only available vacant land. My strategy is to use spatial changes and movements to realize that a space serves a variety of public functions.

When a space of a building changes due to functional needs, the spatial relationships around it also change naturally. As these spatial relationships change, so do their functions. Therefore, the influence between the space and the function of the building is continuous and affects the whole

Changeable Landscape for LA28

Location:Downtown Los Angeles

Tutor: Greg Lynn, Matthew Conway, MajaMaja Ozvaldic Teammates: Fanghui Xiang, Yixiao Huang

Background: This year, we cooperated with ARRIVAL, an automotive production company, to use their technology and products to design a mixeduse facility on the street for the LA2028 Olympics. My site is located around the staples center downtown. Through an analysis of challenges and opportunities, we have defined our LA28 vision. We wanted to transform the street into 3D Live Park and turn fan zone in original left-over spaces into landmarks, enhancing the original three enclosed venues and making the Downtown Venue an ever-increasing destination. At the Olympics it is like a mountain surrounding the venue, constantly transforming according to the needs of the event, shaping an iconic entertainment landmark. And after the Olympics, the mountain will explode and be redeployed over Wilshire Blvd. in various sets for different civic events, such as market, show, food service, playground, gallery, and even can combine into housing, all of these will make the Wilshire Blvd a new pedestrianized corridor of LA.

Project: ARRIVAL is famous for its unique lightweight materials, local microfactory, and the production method of modular plug-ins. Unlike others who just used their products in the design, we adopted their technology to create the Olympics Live Site exclusively for ARRIVAL. The Olympics taken over by ARRIVAL is about a new paradigm of the factory but not a bunch of buses. We designed a series of modular entertainment modules that could be produced by their micro-factory.

Constructed Land Art Project

Location:Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China Team Work

My Contribution: Investigation, Design of Architecture, Manual & Electronic Modeling, Drawing

Other Team Members:Penn Ding, Oliver Li,Jiajia Tang, Zhiyuan Liu.

Photography: SCHRAN

Completion: October, 2019

Individual Drawing Rework: November, 2019

Project: A spiral staircase twists 810 degrees to form a viewpoint to look out over the mountains close to Shenzhen. Called Tower of Spiral, the stairs wrap around a small pool used for irrigation for nearby fields. Surrounded by grass, sunflow er fields and the mountains in the distance, the base of the tower is accessed via a winding paved path.

Visitors can ascend 15 metres via a twisting set of shallow steps, ending in a lookout point surrounded by a low parapet. Tower of Spiral’s core is formed by the spiral steps that twist 810 degrees, supported by steel columns, we encased the structure in a concertina-like steel shell, the upper sections covered with PTFE film and the lower with tensioned metal mesh. As visitors move up this ramp, they are provided with a variety of lines-of-sight out across the surrounding landscape.

The site is located in a farmland near The Great Barrier National Forest Park in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China, with both urban and natural views nearby. The client wanted us to design a landscape architecture in the sea of flowers for visitors to view from different heights. We noticed the rich landscape composition nearby. If we start from the human vision, these landscapes are mainly divided into several levels from the vertical direction, and our site happens to be in the center of the geometric form surrounded by all the landscapes, which can help us to elaborate the physical logic of the project.

The Undefined Scale of Mountains in Chinese Ancient Drawings

Study and Craft Project

Tutor: Xiaodong Qian Team Work

My Contribution: Research of the Ancient Drawing, Design of Project, Manual Modeling, Drawing

About <Garden View of Circular Tsui Hall>: Huancui Hall Landscape painting is one of the representative hui-style prints made during the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty.Original one volume, Signed by Li Deng, painted by Qian Gong, carved by Huang Ying, journal of Wang Shi Huan Cuitang in Xin 'an.Printed in long rolls, 24 cm high and 1486 cm long.

On the dimension of scale, the scene in this long scroll is very rich in composition, with human activities from the distant natural scenery to the indoor.Interestingly, "mountains" or "stones" have been interspersed with scenes of various scales in various ways. They and the surrounding things define each other's scales, and their spatial relations and spatial images are very rich.

In the way of presentation, we chose the long scroll like landscape painting to express this theme. How many scales can the same mountain and wall have? How can we achieve these scale changes? It becomes a real hands-on problem.
