Bequests: 1867 Circle

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR 1867 CIRCLE MEMBERS FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT. WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU TO THE 1867 CIRCLE LUNCH IN 2020.

Bequests have changed lives and the course of the College’s history and continue to do so today. The 1867 Circle is an acknowledgement and recognition of benefactors in our community who have chosen to leave a gift in their will to help ensure that future generations continue to experience the unique opportunity that St Andrew’s College offers.

In 2019, the 1867 Circle members came together on Friday 25 October for their annual lunch at the College, hosted in the Reading Room. The forty attendees comprised of current 1867 Circle members, College benefactors, students and staff, filling the room with conversation and laughter.

Before the lunch commenced Members were given the opportunity to take an exclusive site tour of the new Thyne Reid Link Building to view the construction phase. Many agreed it was exciting to see where the College was heading and that the increase in student numbers was a positive step to take.

Hester Wilson, Acting Principal (at time of lunch) and Vice Principal, began the lunch by welcoming all and giving an update on the College’s progress for the year. As always, a sumptuous three course meal was prepared by the College catering team and guests were entertained by a musical performance by our Artist in Residence, Ben Adler.

New to 2019 was the inclusion of a guest speaker panel, comprising of Katherine Suttor (Fr 2006 and Young Alumni Committee Member), Minami Takahashi (Fr 2005 and St Andrew’s Outreach Program Officer) and Jack Grant (Fr 2018 and Senior Student 2020). The panel ran effortlessly and we thank Amanda Mostyn (Past Parent, Foundation Board member and College Benefactor) for expertly moderating the conversation. Each speaker discussed their own experience at College, their views on its progress and their plans and hopes for the future.

Thanks were given by Hannah Atwell, Director of Advancement, and the 1867 Circle Committee to all 1867 Circle Members for their valued contributions to College. Upon their departure, guests were presented with a copy of the St Andrew’s Book and a bespoke silver St Andrew’s College crest bookmark as a small token of thanks.

The College hopes that it will be possible to host The 1867 Circle Lunch once again in September or October 2020, current circumstances permitting. If you would like more information about becoming a member of the 1867 Circle or attending the annual lunch, please get in contact with the Advancement Office or a member of the 1867 Circle Committee. The 1867 Circle Committee comprises Colin Davidson OAM, Andrew Murray AM, Bob Stitt QC, Stuart Niven and Nick Palethorpe.

With the rebrand of the 1867 Circle (formerly the Dick Spann Circle), we are pleased to be producing a new and updated Bequest Brochure and promotional material in 2020. We look forward to continuing sharing and raising awareness about the impact of bequests and the activities of the 1867 Circle with our community over the next year.
