Memory keeping has changed so much from my childhood to now.

My generation is the bridge . . . we grew up with boxes of printed photos and memorabilia. I remember making my childhood scrapbook myself using clip art and stickers. It’s not pretty, but I find myself bringing it out often. Meanwhile, my children—and maybe yours, too—have some physical keepsakes but generally dig through hard drives or scroll through social media posts to find their childhood moments. It’s such a different experience!
No matter how we store them, I hope we all have a collection of everyday moments that shape who we are . . . our first wobbly steps, questionable hair choices (braces and no bangs, anyone?), birthday parties, camping trips . . . the laughs, the smiles, the hugs. Time spent simply living. I want to remember these moments because remembering keeps me connected to what matters—and to who I am.
How we remember is different for everyone, but in a world full of digital everything, having something you can actually hold in your hands feels incredibly meaningful. It’s a labour of love! Memory keeping isn’t just scrapbooking—it’s anything that brings us back to a moment, memory, or experience. I keep a journal, save handwritten cards with heartfelt messages, and cherish handmade gifts from family and friends. And I also put together a scrapbook now and then—using much better supplies!
I hope you find ways to hold on to your special moments too. Make the memory . . . that’s the most important part. Then, create something with the memory that you can hold in your hands, to keep or share. Whether it’s a single page, a mini or full album, a journal entry, or even a photocard, these little keepsakes will help keep those connections strong for years to come.
