Staff Welcome

From the beginning of 2022, St Aloysius College will be launching the new Crest that will represent a new era of our College.

The Crest has been designed by Ms Daniela Franze Hamra - Year 12 Team Leader and Arts teacher. Mercy Education Board Directors have endorsed the design of the Crest for St Aloysius from 2022 and into the future. Daniela’s design has captured our history, tradition and future. On behalf of all, we would like to once again acknowledge her time and talent. The beginning of 2022 will also witness the launch of the new website and new College publications all designed for our educational setting in 2023.

The crest incorporates many symbols acknowledging our connection with the Sisters of Mercy and also the namesake of the College, Aloysius [Luigi] Gonzaga.

The Elements of the New Crest

THE MERCY CROSS

The Mercy cross is placed centre with the lilies flowering to each side, representing our connection to mercy and the value of hospitality, and embracing all within the community.

THE CROWN

The Crown has been used to represent Saint Aloysius, acknowledging his heritage, the first-born son to an Italian family of nobility. The crown itself incorporates the fleur-de-lis, the lily, the symbol of purity and innocence. The fleur-de-lis has also been used to pay homage to the first building of St Aloysius College, which incorporates this in its stained glass window.

THE LILY

The Lily of St Aloysius Gonzaga.

THE MARIAN STAR

The six-pointed star represents the Marian star, a Roman Catholic symbol, also a symbol featured in the College’s previous crests.

THE CIRCLE OF MERCY

The circle enclosing the design represents the Circle of Mercy. The circle design also continues the tradition of the College’s past circular crest designs.
