TALES

The IOFringe Community Music Project led by Dawn Hudson

FROM THE Dennis Teeth Your ears won’t believe your eyes! Dennis is one of Europe’s most accomplished virtuosos of this unusual and hypnotic instrument. Heartmelting melodies, comedy numbers and classical music are all played expertly by this duck-suited maestro.

The 97 key Mortier Dance Organ The case containing the organ pipes was made by the renowned Antwerp organ builder Th. Mortier. Built in 1928 as one of the 84-key Orchestrion series, the organ would originally have had a polished hardwood façade. In 1955 a new façade was made incorporating an accordion, saxophone and full drum kit enabling the organ to play popular music of that era. The music is in the form of fanfold cardboard ‘books’ played through a device - termed a ‘keyframe’- mounted on the organ. After the present façade was added the organ was bought by Billy Butlin for the Pwllheli holiday camp in North Wales. There it remained until around 1970 when it was acquired by a showman and then later sold to the present owner.

Burdock Revellers Steelband Revellers Steelband are a group of people who have come together to learn, teach and perform fantastic steelpan music! We want you to revel in the music and revel with us! We are based in the UK Centre for Carnival Arts, Luton. Our tutor is Ian Beckles, a professional steelpan musician from Trinidad who arranges our music and teaches us using traditional Caribbean methods. We play to a high standard and are available to hire for corporate events, weddings, parties and public community events. We also run workshops for adults and children.

This year’s IOFringe Community Project sees the coming together of students from Aboyne Lodge School with Trestle Theatre’s Sing Out Community Choir and residents of Park Side View Residential Home.

Burdock is a contemporary folk band comprised of Anna on guitar, Eleanor switching between mandolin and banjo, and Shona playing bass. We share the singing, using three-part harmonies to draw it all together. All three of us come from musical families that exposed us to a variety of different musical genres from folk to jazz, and country to rock. Though we’re inspired by artists from each genre, our music leans towards a more contemporary folk sound, and is particularly inspired by the likes of Mipso, I’m With Her, Switchfoot, Paul Simon, First Aid Kit, and Chris Stapleton.
